Hi Everyone,
Well, after that snow today, I guess that means that curling is almost
here.
You will all remember that you signed up (or not) to curl at the year end
party. Anyone who wasn't there has been contacted (I think).
These are the names of the new members that have been given to me.
If there are any more, you need to let me know ASAP!

At this point the curling club is going to be open for practice for the two
weeks prior to the start of curling. Thedford will once again have Julie,
Chris, Al and Al available there on the 24th (provided they are available)
at 9 PM for instruction for those new curlers and anyone else who wants
a refresher.
Thedford's first night of curling will be Oct. 31st or Nov. 1 (8:45 PM) as
was stated at the year end party. Once teams are drawn up, skips will
call their team members to let them know which night they curl.
Please pass this on for anyone that you know who doesn't have an email
address.

Dear Curler,
The curling season will soon be here again. We¡¦d like to welcome everyone back to another fun year of curling. The first night of curling will be Nov. 1st and the season will draw to a close by April 4th.
Our fees for this year continue to be $90.00 for new members and $100.00 for past members. We would appreciate having your cheque made out to Thedford Curling Club within the first two weeks.
Until we know how Forest stands for numbers, we will not be able to determine whether we will have both times on Tuesdays or also curl on a Wed. night. In order for the first draw (and the first night of curling) to run smoothly, we ask that this form and/or information be returned as soon as possible, either by email or regular mail or phone (Marg 786-5682). If you know of anyone who would like to curl this year please forward an invitation to them on our behalf.
On Tues. Oct 25th at 9 PM we will run a session for new curlers & any others who wish to brush up on their skills; anyone can come out for practice during that last week of Oct. if they wish. Schedules will be ready to be picked up the first night of curling.
Please indicate if you wish to be drawn in for the first draw or if you wish to be a spare; also indicate if you ride with someone so that we can try to accommodate you in that respect. If we do not hear from you we will assume that you are not curling this year.

Ice Etiquette
While most of the courtesies suggested below will not be found in rule books, they are practised by all curlers who understand the true spirit of and traditions of the game.
1. It is imperative that you be ready to go on the ice prior to your scheduled game time.
Remember, seven others are waiting on you.
2. Be ready to throw your stone immediately after your opponent¡¦s stone has been delivered,
making sure it has been wiped clean.
3. Do not move about while anyone else is delivering their stone. Skips and Thirds should keep
their brooms behind them in the house and stand still while opponents are throwing.
4. Each Skip should let the other three members of his/her rink know what he/she is planning to
do, let them in on the strategy - per se.
5. Sweepers should be on the sidelines - alert and ready to sweep immediately, if called upon;
and they must stay with the stone all the way to the house sweeping or not. They must return
to the area between the two hog lines and remain on the sidelines until a member of their rink
is again ready to throw.
6. Only skips and vice skips in charge of the house for the time being may stand within the house
and the skip of the playing team has the choice of place and shall not be obstructed by the
other skip, but behind the teeÈÎline the privileges of both in regard to sweeping are equal.
7. Tee-line - Behind the tee-line, only one player from each team may sweep at any one time.
This may be the skip or vice skip from either team. Only the player in charge of the house shall
be allowed to sweep behind the tee line, and shall not start to sweep an opponent's stone before
the stone reaches the line.
8. No one should deliberately delay the game.
9. If you have personally fouled a moving stone, be the first one to so declare and it will be
removed from the ice.
9. If you have personally moved a stationary stone, say so immediately so that it may be replaced
(into original position) to the satisfaction of the opposing Skip.
10. Congratulate opposing players, as well as members or your own rink, when they have made a
good shot. Never, by word or deed, be guilty of any action that would embarrass a player who
has missed a shot. Every curling game begins and ends with a handshake of friendship and
goodwill to both teammates and opponents.
11. Usually the winning team buys their opposing player a drink and then that is reciprocated.
12. Make sure that you arrange for a spare and call your skip with the spare¡¦s name if you are
unable to play.
