UPCOMING EVENTS

ASA 18U SOUTHERN NATIONALS

* Pool #1, Fri, 8/3, 2:00pm, vs Florida Bandits
Not much offense from Trouble (an unfortunate theme for the tournament). The Bandits got all they needed in the bottom of the 2nd on a couple of singles, a couple of walks and an error. Shelby and Alexis combined to give up only 5 hits while striking out 6. Final score, 3-0.

* Pool #2, Fri, 8/3, 6:00pm, vs Brevard Stealers
It took us all the way to the 6th inning to finally score. By that time they had put 4 runs on the board, on just 6 hits off of Jenna and Shelby. In the bottom of the 6th, Shelby led off with a single and took 2nd on a wild pitch. Diana grounded out to 2nd to move Shelby to 3rd. Ally hit a fielder's choice ground out to get Shelby home. Final score, 4-1.

* Bracket #1, Fri, 8/3, 8:00pm, vs Twilight Twisters
Alexis pitched a masterful 3-hitter and striking out 7. Their only run came in the bottom of the 6th on a couple of errors and a run-scoring ground out. We only managed 3 hits (singles from Alexis, Ali, and Diana). Final score, 1-0.

* Bracket #2, Sat, 8/4, 11:00am, vs Lakeland Rage
While the Trouble bats finally came around, their bats were too strong and their defense was outstanding. They opened up quick with 3 runs in the first on a double, single, and home run. We answered back with Shelby hitting a double, Ally moving her to 3rd on a ground out and wild pitch bringing Shelby in on an athletic move to avoid the pitcher's tag at the plate. We had several scoring threats, but none materialized. We had hits from Courtney, Shelby (2), Tiffany, Alexis (2B), and Erin). We had deep shots to left and left-center that were snagged by their outfielders saving many runs as runners were in scoring position on each play. They added 4 more runs in the 6th and 7th innings on several hits. Final score, 8-1.

RAIN DAMPENS ASA REGIONAL

The rains that plagued the Houston area for the last several weeks continued this weekend shortening the ASA Regional Tournament to a single-elimination bracket on Sunday after the first round games on Saturday were the only games that could be completed.

* Bracket #1, Sat, 7/7, 4:00pm, vs. Spring-Klein Sliders (Gray)
The 3rd inning was when the scoring started. They pushed across 3 runs on 4 hits to take the lead. They added 1 more in both the 4th and 5th to take a commanding 5-0 lead with one last chance for us to come back. Alexis led off with a single thru the hole between short and third and Erin lined a single to right-center. After a throw to 3rd to try to get Alexis, Erin was thrown out advancing to 2nd despite a great head-first slide. Tabatha followed up with a walk and Courtney drove in Alexis on a ground out to 3rd, with Tabatha moving up to 2nd and then to 3rd on an error. Shelby delivered a single to left to drive in Tabatha, but that was all we could muster, so we went down 5-2 and on to the loser's bracket ... or so we thought.

More rains came washing out the remainder of the Saturday games and changing the tournament into a single-elimination bracket to be concluded on Sunday. Since we had just lost our first game, we found out that we were done.

TROUBLE FINISHES 5TH AT ASA 18U STATE

Trouble finally got on track and put on a good performance at the ASA 18U State Tournament at Missouri City and came away with a 5th place finish out of 26 teams.

* Bracket #1, Fri, 6/22, 6:00pm, vs. Texas Blitz
We started off with a good pitcher's duel against Texas Blitz. We struck first with a run in the bottom of the first. Shelby started us off with a walk. Ally followed up with a double to drive in Shelby. No more scoring until the 4th when the Blitz combined a double, a bunt, and a wild pitch to tie the game at 1. We answered right back when Courtney led off with a single. Ali walked and Erin hit a bunt single to load the bases. Rachel then drove a shot up the middle to give us a 2-1 lead. Shelby held them the rest of the game to give us the victory. In 6 innings, Shelby allowed just 4 hits while striking out 5 to get the win.

* Bracket #2, Sat, 6/23, 8:00am, vs. Harlingen RGV Stars
After a short turnaround between the Friday night game and the Saturday morning time, we found that our opponent was a no-show, so we advanced to the third round of the winner's bracket.

* Bracket #3, Sat, 6/23, 9:15pm, vs. Texas Scream
After a 4-5 hour rain delay, we got cranked up again late Saturday night facing a tough opponent in Texas Scream. They started off with 2 quick runs on a couple of hits, bunts, errors, ground out, and a sacrifice fly. We responded in the top of the 2nd when Tabatha started us off with a single up the middle. She moved up on Rachel's groundout. Alexis singled moving Tab to 3rd and taking second on the next pitch. Tiffany reached on a bunt single to load the bases. Shelby came thru with a 2-run single. It stayed 2-2 until time ran out. In the first ITB, Rachel started on second and was moved to 3rd after a couple of bunts. Jenna put us ahead with a single to center, plating Rachel. In the bottom of the inning, 2 bunts and a fly out to center finished off the game with a 3-2 win. Alexis pitched a complete game giving up no earned runs to secure the win.

* Bracket #4, Sun, 6/24, 8:00am, vs. CC Panthers
The Panthers struck first with a leadoff single and a stolen base sandwiched in between two sacrifice bunts. They added 2 more in the 3rd on 5 hits. We got back into the game in the bottom of the 3rd. 3 consecutive singles from Alexis, Tabatha, and Jenna loaded the bases for Shelby who doubled to right center to drive in 2. We tied it in the bottom of the 4th when Alexis started us off again with a single. Tabatha sacrificed her to 2nd and Jenna came thru big again with another hit to score Alexis. It stayed that way until ITB. Unfortunately, the wheels came off for us as they pushed 6 runs across. Not giving up, we responded in the bottom half when Tabatha reached on an error to score Alexis who was the ITB runner. Another hit from Jenna and a ground out from Shelby scored another. That was all we could muster so it ended as a 9-5 loss and onto the loser's bracket.

* Bracket #5, Sun, 6/24, 9:45am, vs. Centex Buzz
The long ball was the difference in this game. We struck first as Tiffany launched one over the left field fence for a 1-0 lead in the 2nd. They tied it up with 3 hits in the bottom half. Another 3 hits for them in the 3rd gave them a 2-1 lead. In the 4th, they opened the game up with a 3-run homer for a 5-2 lead. In the rush to end the bottom of the sixth to force a 7th inning before time ran out, they managed one more as the clock expired. Final, 6-1.

TROUBLES CONTINUE AT AFA STATE

Once again, the pool games showed promise, but the bracket games were a different story.

* Pool, Fri, 6/8, 6:00pm, vs. Texas Impulse
Despite leading off the game with 3 singles, a walk, and a steal, Impulse pushed just one run across thanks to a couple of good defensive plays to catch a runner at the plate and picking a runner off of third. That was important as we came back with 3 runs on the bottom half of the 1st when Tiffany started it off by drilling a double over center. Diana laid down the sacrifice to move Tiff to 3rd. Shelby singled up the middle to score Tiffany. Courtney walked and Jenna drove a 2-run double over left to finish off the scoring. Pitching and defense controlled the game the rest of the way, giving us a 3-1 victory. Jenna scattered 5 hits for the win.

* Pool, Fri, 6/8, 8:30pm, vs. Turn 2
It was our turn to start off the scoring in this game. Shelby walked and Ally moved her up with a walk. Ali then came up and hit a shot over center to score both Shelby and Ally. They came back with a run in the 2nd with some small ball on a walk, 2 steals, and a squeeze bunt. We added another in the 3rd on a Diana bunt single, a steal, and an RBI single from Ally. They managed another with a bunt single, a couple of steals, and an error. But Shelby was dominating allowing just one hit (the bunt single) and striking out 7. Final score, 3-2.

* Bracket #1, Sat, 6/9, 3:30pm, vs. Beaumont Rowdie
It looked like we were going to start the bracket off right, jumping out to 3-0 lead in the 1st. Tiffany singled, Diana sacrificed her to 2nd, and Shelby walked. A passed ball moved Tiff and Shelby to 2nd & 3rd. Ally walked to load the bases and Courtney followed with a 2-run double. Ali finished it off with an RBI single to score Ally. They answered with a run in the bottom of the 2nd and we responded with another in the top of the 3rd. After an Ali single and a Rachel double, Alexis walked and Tiffany hit a sacrifice fly. With time running out in the bottom of the 3rd, our problems started. 2 walks, 2 singles, and a triple tied the game up and sent it into ITB. We threatened but failed to score, and, when their leadoff batter hit a shot to left center, we were sent to the loser's bracket with a 5-4 loss.

* Bracket #2, Sat, 6/9, 6:10pm, vs. Beaumont Blast Red
Possibly feeling the effects from the last heartbreaking loss, we stumbled big time in the first inning against Blast Red. 3 hits sandwiched in between 5 errors produced a big 6-0 lead for them before we even came to bat. Not giving up, we chipped away with a run in the bottom of the 1st thanks to a Diana bunt single, a steal and an error. In the bottom of the 2nd we made it a game. Ali started us off with a double. Jenna walked and Rachel reached on a fielder's choice when they were able to force Jenna at 2nd. Rachel took 2nd and Alexis hit a big 2-run single ending up at 2nd after the play. A wild pitch moved her to 3rd and Tiffany walked and took 2nd on the next pitch. Now it was Diana's turn as she drove a single up the middle to score Alexis and Tiffany. Back in the game down 6-5, Shelby held them scoreless the rest of the way. Unfortunately, despite getting a few runners, we could not score either. Final score, 6-5.

* Bracket #3, Sat, 6/9, 8:50pm, vs. Louisiana Voodoo
With the 3-game guarantee bracket we were still alive but drew a tough opponent in Louisiana Voodoo. In the 2nd, they broke open the scoring with 2 runs on a walk, 2 singles, and an error. However, we scratched back with 2 of our own in the bottom half. Ally drew a walk, as did Courtney. After a couple of strikeouts, Rachel scratched out an infield single to load the bases. Erin forced a fielder's choice with everyone safe and Ally scoring. Tiffany reached on an error, scoring Courtney, but just barely getting Rachel at the plate. After a quick 3rd inning, the Voodoo bats started clicking. A single, walk, and a fielder's choice set the table for a 2-run triple sending us home with a 5-2 loss. Alexis pitched a strong game versus a talented Voodoo lineup.

Game Recaps:
Pool: Trouble 3, Texas Impulse 1
Pool: Trouble 3, Turn 2 2

Bracket #2: Beaumont Blast Red 6, Trouble 5

TROUBLE'S ASA 18U DEBUT

Progress was made at Trouble's first outing in ASA 18U at the National Qualifier at Southbelt.

* Pool, Fri, 6/1, 7:00pm, vs. Lady Stros
Things started off well against an always-tough opponent. They jumped out to an early 1-0 lead after 1 inning after an infield single, a sacrifice, and an error. It stayed the same until the top of the 4th when our bats came to life. Diana started it off with a walk, a steal of 2nd, and moving to 3rd on the throw. Shelby walked and Ally came up with a big 2-RBI double. Tiffany singled and Courtney followed with a sacrifice fly to score Ally. Jenna pitched a complete-game 3-hitter with a final score of 3-1.

* Pool, Fri, 6/1, 8:30pm, vs. San Antonio Nightmare
We started off scoring in the first when Shelby walked and moved to 2nd on a wild pitch. Ally then hit a rocket over the center fielder's head for a triple to drive in Shelby. Tiffany walked and when she was stealing 2nd, Ally was able to steal home. Nightmare responded in the bottom of the second with 2 runs to tie it on 3 hits. The 3rd inning went scoreless as time ran out. Final 2-2.

* Bracket #1, Sat, 6/2, 11:30am, vs. Ringors
We did well in the all-important first bracket game jumping out to a 2-0 in the first as Diana was hit by a pitch followed by a single by Shelby. A wild pitch moved them up to 2nd and 3rd. Ally reached on an infield single to load the bases. Shelby scored on a wild pitch and Courtney's single drove in another. In the 3rd, we opened the game up with 5 runs. Consecutive singles from Diana, Shelby, and Ally accounted for the first run. Tiffany added another with a sacrifice fly. Ally scored next on a wild pitch. Courtney walked and Jenna singled, then Alexis finished off the scoring with a 2-run single. In the 4th, another 4 runs came across. Diana walked and Shelby singled to drive in Diana. Ally reached on an error. Tiffany drove in Ally with a single and Courtney walked and Tiffany eventually scored on a wild pitch. Alexis and Shelby combined for a 4-hitter, with the Ringors held scoreless until the top of the 5th. Final, 11-1.

* Bracket #2, Sun, 6/3, 8:30am, vs. Mystixx
After the Saturday afternoon thundershowers flooded the fields just as our game was ready to start, we had to wait until Sunday morning to resume play. With both teams threatening to score in the first, it was scoreless until the 4th when they pushed across their first run on an error, a steal, and a wild pitch. The 5th provided them with 2 more on a bunt single, error, sacrifice bunt and a groundout. In the 7th they got another on an error, steal, and 2 singles. Our bats were silenced in this game as we got our only 2 hits in the first. Jenna pitched a great game going the full 7 innings and scattering 5 and allowing no earned runs. Final, 4-0 and on to the loser's bracket.

* Bracket #3, Sun, 6/3, 10:00am, vs. Texas Prospects
We started off with an early lead with 2 runs in the bottom of the first. Tabatha walked and moved to 2nd on a wild pitch. Diana laid down a sacrifice bunt to move her to 3rd. Shelby reached on an infield single and took 2nd on the next pitch. Ally delivered again with a shot up the middle for a 2-run single. The Prospects proved to be a hard-hitting team and it paid off for them in the 2nd as they were able to tie it up with a single, walk, 2 sacrifice bunts, and another single. They opened it up in the 4th with 4 more courtesy of 3 singles, a couple of walks and 3 wild pitches. We staged a comeback in the bottom of the 4th when Jenna and Rachel started it off with a couple of singles. Tabatha followed with a single of her own to score Jenna, but that was all we could muster so we were sent home with a 6-3 loss.

Game Recaps:
Pool: Trouble 3, Lady Stros 1
Pool: Trouble 2, San Antonio Nightmare 2
Bracket #1: Trouble 11, Ringors 1
Bracket #2: Mystixx 4, Trouble 0
Bracket #3: Texas Prospects 6, Trouble 3

NOT A LOT OF TROUBLE AT AFA QUALIFIER

The headline would normally sound like good news, but this one ... not so much. In our first venture into 18U at the AFA Qualifier this weekend, our pool game made things look positive, but the bracket proved otherwise.

* Pool, Sat, 5/19, 10:10am, vs. Hit Away
The break for high school softball didn't seem to make much difference as we had a solid game in our first outing. Jenna and Shelby scattered 4 hits over 3 innings and allowed just one earned run. The bats were working just fine as we pushed 3 runs across in both the first and second innings ... Shelby with 2 big 2-RBI doubles to account for most of the scoring to lead the 8-hit attack. Final score, 6-2.

* Bracket #1, Sat, 5/19, 12:30pm, vs. Houston Power
After a scoreless first inning, Power scored with a single, two walks, and a throwing error. They added 3 more in the third courtesy of four singles. Still, Alexis allowed just 5 hits total, but our offense sputtered as we managed just four hits. We staged a rally in the bottom of the fourth when Ally and Courtney led off with singles. Jenna drove in Ally with a single up the middle, but the rally fell short and we ended with a 4-1 loss.

* Bracket #2, Sat, 5/19, 4:30pm, vs. Cy-Fair Shock
Another scoreless start thru the first. However, Shock got going in the second scoring 4 runs on a hit batter, a single, and a couple of walks. They got another in the 3rd after an error and a single. Once again, we got a rally going in the bottom of the 4th. Diana led off with a double and walks to Lacey and Erin loaded the bases. Alexis drove in a run on sacrifice fly to left and Lori drove a single up the middle for a 2nd run. Again, the rally fell short and we ended with a 5-2 loss.

* Bracket #3, Sat, 5/19, 7:10pm, vs. High Voltage
High Voltage started off with a run in the top of the 2nd with a double and a single and 2 more in the 3rd on an error and 3 singles. We scored 1 in the bottom of the 3rd when Lacey led off with a single, followed by singles from Shelby and Ally. Diana hit a rocket up the middle that deflected off the pitcher, picked up by the shortstop and thrown in time to just catch Diana at first, but scoring the run. Final score 3-1.

Game Recaps:
Pool: Trouble 6, Hit Away 2
Bracket #1: Houston Power 4, Trouble 1
Bracket #2: Cy-Fair Shock 5, Trouble 2
Bracket #3: High Voltage 3, Trouble 1
