2000 USSSA STATE CHAMPIONS
The Texas Heat earned the USSSA State Championship title hosted in Longview, Texas the weekend of June 23rd - 25th. The Heat looked totally awesome as they dominated the 10 and under tournament. They played a total of 6 games and went undefeated. The championship game was played against the Longview Summit who showed great sportmanship and a wonderful effort. They are truly a team with a winning attitude from players and coaches alike. Thank you, Longview for allowing us to come to your part of the woods (a beautiful part of the woods, we might add) and take part in this tournament. TEXAS HEAT - what can be said that hasn't already been said? You girls are the best and continue to prove it on the field game after game. You are a tremendous group of girls with exceptional talent and just one more thing... How does it feel to be USSSA STATE CHAMPIONS?!?!?!?!?!?
2000 AFA STATE CHAMPIONS
Not even the sweltering humidity and heat of the south could stop the Texas Heat from bringing home another State Championship. The weekend of July 16th-17th The Heat arrived in Beaumont, TX by chartered bus (which was a blast, by the way). The Heat came away undefeated in 4 games (2 game guarantee) scoring 30 runs and allowing only 3. The championship game was played against the Kingwood Fireballs who worked their way up into the championship game after losing their first game of the tournament. Congratulations go out to them for such an outstanding effort.
This victory is a huge confidence builder for The Heat and allows for tremendous momentum going into the National Tournament the week of July 24th. Parents, thank you for your support and coaches - what can we say? You're the best. Congratulations Texas Heat - you girls deserve it. Each and every one of you are true champions on and off the field!
2000 AFA NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS
The Texas Heat was crowned with the 2000 AFA National Championship title in Oklahoma City on July 30th after a 10 game tournament with talent-packed teams from states as far as Nebraska, Illinois, Missouri, Kansas, Texas and the home state. This title did not come easily for The Heat as several of the games came down to the last inning. The Heat played the Deer Park Ballistic in the championship game after having played them earlier in the day and winning with a 2-0 score. With competition fierce from both teams as well as the fans in the stand, the Ballastic squeaked past The Heat and won after they answered The Heat's one run with two of their own in extra innings. The Heat regrouped and played their game and fought back to win the championship with a 4-1 victory.
After accepting their trophies and spray painting the coaches hair red, Coach Brad was quoted as saying, "This has been a dream season" and credited the success of this team to its dedicated players, phenomenal coaching staff and supportive parents. No one has worked harder or craved the win of this National title more than The Heat girls. They have given that little "extra" by committing to a rigorous practice schedule, maintaining a healthy diet and exercise program and yes, even curfews during tournaments.
Thanks to all The Heat sponsors who have contributed so much during this past season and those who have worked hard through garage sales, etc. to raise the money that made this National tournament possible. A note from the coaches, parents and Heat fans to the players: We love you and are so proud of the success you have found - You are the cream of the crop and we are ecstatic to call you part of the Heat family!
