Terriers
This is the place for information on Terrier practices, games, statistics, and former Terriers....(The highlights of the 2003, 2002 and 2001 season can be found under the NEWS heading)

Chicago Bulls Theme

Season 2005 Week Four
Hopefully the results of week four are the only bumps in this seasons string of games. The Bulldogs of Notre Dame played at the Superblock's soggy field, and while their speed was dimishied some, so was the Terrier's ability. A late goal on a poorly defended free kick was the only goal of the game, giving this years team their first defeat. Marion, as usual, was a nightmare trip. Poor officiating and rough play from the hosts put us on the defensive, and without two starters as Magnuson and Gray went down on late hits. Ntumy's early goal gave us confidence, but in the second half, a Rice clearence deflected in, and gave Marion renewed energy. A goal by Miller off a Banks throwin, again put us in a position to win, but a nifty header by Marion after a missed clearence led to the equalizer. Two scoreless OT periods gave Carbondale their second straight tie when playing in Marion.

Monday, Centralia visited the Superblock, and though the Terrier's attacked crisply, and often, we still could only dent Schilling for 3 goals, Ntumy's two and Magnuson's one. Purely frustrating is putting it mildly. Over 50 shots in two games, many point blank, and only 6 goals to show. Well, we didn't linger on the bad luck long, since Althoff came to town the next night. A hard fought OT win in Belleville, let us know it wouldn't be any different at the Superblock. After several early chances that didn't find the net, a quick counterattack by Althoff, led to a stretch volley goal, just inside the post, putting the Terrier's down for the first time this season. A unbelievable effort by Ntumy, shedding shirt grabs, and holds, beat several defenders to bury a tying goal in the 1st half. Spirited play followed on the dewy field, and with time winding down in the second half, Magnuson finally found a seem on a Baumann feed, and slipped a shot under a diving keeper. Kelly put it out of reach a few minutes later when his dangerous shot in the 6 yard box, was cleared by an Althoff defender into the back of one of his teammates, deflecting into the goal. The South Seven crown is in our reach...only Marion stands in the way.....!

2005 Season Week Three
Cahokia jilted us out of our next game by forfeiting, so the Terriers were hungry entering the weekend Jamboree in Kentucky. Murray fell to the bored Carbondale team 5-1. Despite a very nice complex, Marshall County faired no better losing 6-0, ending a very successful trip to the Bluegrass State.

2005 Week Two
Jackson begged out of our game on the understanding they would play in Carbondale, however rain cancelled that game, and it may not be made up. That left a frustrating afternoon at Centralia, as the only game in week 2. Lucas Schilling, probably an All Stater, stopped shot after shot by the Terriers. Umana scored two goals to lead the way in a 3-0 nail chomping win.

2005 Week One....Back On The Winning Track, With Back to Back Championships at Notre Dame
The Terriers opened the 2005 season with high expectations coming off a successful, but heartbreaking one loss season in 2004. Mt. Vernon found the Terrier offense potent as ever losing 13-0, however Mt. Vernon has some hustling underclassmen that could make future matches less dominating. Looking to defend their Championship at the Cape Notre Dame tourney, Carbondale faced Poplar Bluff in the opening round. Despite close games the last two years with the Mules, this year the Terriers were able to coast to a relatively easy 4-0 win. Magnuson, Baumann, Konecek and Davis had goals, with Rice having a spotless tour in goal. In game two the oppenent was St. Pius, a suprise winner over Cape Central. After a tough first half with the Terriers ahead 1-0, we scored 3 goals in 2 minutes in the second half to move into the Championship game. Magnuson, Kelly, and Ntumy's 2 goals lead the way. Rice was solid in goal again. Jackson was a suprise winner over Notre Dame and proved a much tougher opponent than in past years in the Finals. The Terriers Magnuson scored an early goal, but two miskicks on the same ball lead to a goal late in the second half for Jackson. The Terriers pressed the attack, and a foul to Magnuson outside the front corner of the box, set the stage for a Miller bending, dipping free kick game winner.(click on Miller Bomb)

Tuesday had the Terriers at Althoff for a big South Seven matchup. With both teams having Metro players, the rivalry was high, and the defense was tight. Both teams dodged potential goals, with Rice making and unbelieveable save.(click on Rice Reigns) A equally even second half, led to sudden death OT, and the Terriers again proved tough to beat, as Banks put in a long throw by Magnuson...nudge by Umana, to give the Terriers the conference lead.(Click on Bank's in the Bank)

Rice Reigns....Unbelievable Save
Adam Rice recovers from a weak, punched clearence, to dive in front of a disbelieving Jordan Beshears of Althoff, who had already chalked his shot up as a goal.

Banks in the Bank
Brad Magnuson's long throws had been dangerous all nite, and finally the Terriers managed to capitalize on one in OT. IB Umana, deflected the long throw, misplayed by the Althoff keeper, to a wide open Andrew Banks who buried it in the far corner!

Do You Want to Play Soccer in College? (click here)
A number of factors will enter into any athletes decision to play sports in college...academics, level of play, finances, and distance from home. Before you can even consider those factors, juniors and seniors must be registered with the NCAA clearinghouse. To accomplish this, see Dr. Scott Ellis, in the guidance office. With that accomplished you now can begin to market yourself. You will not receive any interest, from any coach, unless YOU make that program aware of your interest. To do this you can visit the schools website, and click on athletics, go to soccer and generally schools have printable player information forms. Fill this form out and return to the school. If you prefer, prepare your own letter of introduction, and resume. Send this to as many schools as may meet your academic and athletic interests. Remember to make the number of schools contacted be more than a handful...if you are a Division I caliber player, do not rule out the DII and DIII programs. Also, remember the NAIA, and junior colleges. These schools will then send you the player information form to fill out. Understand not all schools will need your talents, or the schools that show interest may not meet your criteria, so be prepared to be flexible. I as your High School coach, can offer letters of recommendation, and provide game highlights. The Athletic office can assist you with mailings and copying. I cannot stress enough the fact that players need to market themselves. I will assist once a school shows interest, or request my input. Under the Handouts heading to the right, you will find several examples of a letter of introduction, letters of recommendation and resumes.(ENLARGE THE FILES ONCE THEY ARE DOWNLOADED) Also go to www.collegesoccer.com to find a listing of all Division I,II,and III soccer programs. Begin this process immediately if you have any interest at all in playing soccer once your high school career is over.
