Susquehanna River level at Jersey Shore
There is always enough water for a race on the Susquehanna at the Mcelhattan location. A level of 2.2 feet is ideal. If lower than 2.2 feet, it there are some shallow spots, but it is still possible to navigate without scraping boats.

Updates-- The 2009 NYMCRA online calendar is available. This year's calendar features 52 races and 2 training series along with 2 races that benefit non-profit organizations. Added this year is an interactive Google map to show you the start location of each race. The calendar map page has a table listing each race by date and name. Clicking on a race name will identify the race location on the map. You can zoom in to see the exact start and you can get directions to the start from anywhere. For programming your car GPS, each race on the calendar has latitude/longitude coordinates of the start. To get started use the above 'Event Calendar' menu or jump from here - calendar , map

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

-- NYMCRA introduces a Kayak Handicap System for Points Championship. A new and exciting kayak points system will be in place for the 2009 racing season. NYMCRA will only award two kayak points championships this season – a male overall kayak points champion and a female overall kayak points champion. All kayaks and all age groups will compete together for the championship in these two gender categories. A handicapping formula will be applied to each kayak’s race finish time to determine their position in the group and their points earned.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

-- Attention NYMCRA members! The 2009 schedule is finalized and has been emailed to current NYMCRA members; and will be snail mailed shortly to members that do not have an email address on file. When the schedule was emailed, several emails bounced back, so If you have not received your schedule and are up to date with your dues; email nymcraprez@gmail.com and Holly will send you the race schedule ASAP!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

-- NYMCRA members to win free gas! As an additional benefit of NYMCRA membership, all current NYMCRA members who participate in any of the 10 points races this year will be eligible to win one of 3 free gas cards to be given away in a drawing at each race. The cards will be worth $25, $15 and $10, redeemable at any Exxon/Mobil station. A NYMCRA representative will be on hand at each race to distribute tickets to NYMCRA members and hold the drawing at the awards ceremony. Join now to get your share of the free gas!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

-- NYMCRA introduces "Paddling Partners"
NYMCRA members with experience and talent are making their knowledge available to assist you by accelerating your paddling career! They are volunteering their time by email and in person to assist NYMCRA members. To get started take a look at the Paddling Partners link under the Training menu.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

-- Pro/Am Races the race place/dates and rules are available - Pro-Am Series
The 2009 season will bring on some races that are completely different! Get ready to improve your racing strategy, your teamwork skills and hear some jokes you've never heard before. Selected races will have a pre-race lottery to form teams of 1 pro-class and 1 amateur class competitor. Both paddlers must be NYMCRA members. The goals are to keep the competitions close, to gain or improve pack-riding skills and to have fun. More information is at the Pro-Am Series link under the Training menu.
