Rules
It should be remembered that this is a recreational league. The main objective is for participants to enjoy themselves while playing in a competitive environment, i.e., what we call serious fun.
1. Matches will consist of two 45-minute halves, unless team captains agree before the start of the match to reduce the length of the match (e.g., teams have an inadequate number of substitutes or acute weather conditions exist) or if time constraints do not allow for two 45-minute halves. There will be a 5-minute halftime. Two referees will officiate each game.
2. Rules for substitution:
- Both teams can substitute on any goal kick or throw-in or after a goal is scored
- Neither team can substitute on corner kicks or free kicks
- All substitutions must be reported to and approved by the referee
3. No slide tackles. An indirect free kick is given for slide tackles.
4. No swearing or unsportsmanlike conduct
5. All players must wear shin guards
6. When a player is injured the referee will stop play. After the injured player has recovered an indirect free kick will be awarded to the team in possession when the whistle was blown to stop play.
7. Apart from the above exceptions FIFA rules apply
ALL players should abide by ALL referee's decisions, which are final. The referee will use discretionary judgement in the assessment of the penalties for on-the-field offences (e.g., swearing, slide tackles and unsportsmanlike conduct). Severe penalties may warrant an immediate red card. Violent, threatening behaviour will not be tolerated; offenders may be permanently barred from playing in the league
A player receiving a yellow card must leave the game for ten minutes. The player *can* be replaced. The team does not have to play a man short. If the team only has 11 players present, then the player must still sit-out for 10 minutes and the team must play with only 10 players.
Anyone who receives a red card must leave the field immediately, and is banned from playing any game the following week. Two red cards in the same season means that an individual is suspended from the league for the remainder of that season.
Only registered players are allowed to play in the matches, except when a team is unable to field a full side, from their own squad or from any of the other squads. Under these circumstances, which teams should try to avoid, any guest player has to pay a fee of $10 per match and fill out a registration form.
Remember that no alcohol is allowed on school or township property.
