2008 Rot tshirt v1

9:40 PM

Friday night's games have been POSTPONED due to weather.  We did manage to get tarps down on all the fields before it started to rain significantly. It has rained a great deal tonight, but we believe the tarps will allow us to salvage the tournament and start on or nearly on time Saturday morning if the showers leave the area.

IMPORTANT:  please have your players bring tennis shoes with them in addition to their cleats.  We ask the parents, coaches and players to help with tarp removal on each field so we can start back up quickly.

We are releasing the revised Saturday-Sunday schedules as they are completed.  The 8u, 9u, 10u, 11u, 12u, 13u and 14u rain schedules are available for download below.  THe 12u will be available soon.    Revised schedules will also be emailed to all team contacts later Friday evening in addition to being posted at this site.

Thanks for your cooperation.

The tournament weather and seeding hotline is 270-293-9371.  Please call this information regarding your time for Sunday play and for weather updates and any additional schedule changes.

Tab Brockman Named USSSA Baseball State Director for KY

tab mug informal
Kissimmee, FL - The United States Specialty Sports Association (USSSA) annouced this winter that Tab Brockman has been named the new KY Baseball State Director.
"We are proud to announce Tab Brockman as our newest state director," said USSSA VP of Baseball, Joey Odom. "He will be looking throughout Kentucky for individuals to begin joining the forces of USSSA Baseball by becoming local and area directors, hosting USSSA Baseball events or sanctioning leagues in the very near future."
Brockman, who live in Murray, has been an Area Director for USSSA for five years and annually hosts a successful slate of USSSA tournaments through his promotional company, Teamwork Marketing. Brockman also has over 20 years of experience in professional sports marketing, as well as a background in sales and management.
Brockman replaces Pat Powers of Mayfield, who has been the KY State Director for 11 years. "Everyone affiliated with USSSA Baseball in Kentucky owes a sincere debt of gratitude to Pat," Brockman said. "Travel baseball in KY, and USSSA in particular, would not be where it is today without the tireless efforts Pat's put in over the last decade-plus. I look forward to working with him in this transition and appreciate his support and friendship over the years."
Brockman will be attending the USSSA National Convention November 12-16 and then will begin the task of growing the network of leagues, directors, tournaments and USSSA facilities throughout the state upon his return.
If you are interested in discussing how USSSA Baseball can benefit your KY league, facility or community, please contact Tab Brockman at 270-767-8326 or via email at

Hoopin' On the Square Brings 3-on-3 Basketball
to Downtown Murray September 24-25

In a continued effort to bring commerce and recognition to downtown, Murray Main Street today announced a new fall event – BB&T’s Hoopin’ On the Square – for September 24 & 25 on the Murray Court Square.
Entry forms and rules for the outdoor basketball extravaganza are available as downloadable handouts from the bottom of this information.
Hoopin’ On the Square is a new three-on-three street basketball tournament for various age groups and skill levels that will take place on Saturday and Sunday (Sept. 24-25). Entry fee for the tournament is $100 per team with a roster limit of four players per team.
The streetball showdown for all ages is being produced by Teamwork Marketing & Promotions as a fundraiser for Murray Main Street.
“We have been wanting to have this basketball event on the Court Square for some time,” said Main Street Director Deana Wright. “Everyone around our region likes to play basketball. With the help of our title sponsor, BB&T, we’re going to give everyone a chance to compete on our downtown courts.”
“Teamwork Marketing and Murray Main Street have been talking about putting this event together for a couple of years,” Wright continued. “We both felt that now is as good a time as any to make it happen. The popularity of basketball in this region is well-documented. We hope this will provide a great time for the players and their families, promote downtown Murray, and help us as a major fundraiser.
“Of course, we could not have pulled this event together without the help and sponsorship of BB&T. It’s a natural for BB&T since their main Murray branch is also one of our downtown business anchors,” Wright continued.
“This is a great way for BB&T to show its continued commitment to our local community,” according the Heidi Shultz, BB&T’s area manager. “Our goal is always to support our local community. This time it’s through Murray Main Street, which helps all of our downtown merchants in the process.”
Participating age divisions for boys and girls begin in elementary school age. Competitive divisions will also be offered for middle school, high school, college and adult age groups.

FRIDAY, JULY 15 - 2:30 PM

Despite a game effort from the Marshall Co. Parks Department crew, this weekend's Quad State Shootout has officially been cancelled. Remnants from Hurricane Dennis produced yet another spot downpour - this time right over Mike Miller Park - that dumped an additional inch of rain on the fields. The parks department had been working feverishly to rehab the fields from this week's severe rains. However today's latest round of precipitation rendered the playing surfaces out of commission for the rest of the weekend.
There is a possibility that the Quad State Shootout could be rescheduled for July 29-31. Please get in touch with Tab Brockman about a refund or your team's interest in a rescheduled date. Thanks for intending to play!

TN Sweeps KY in 2005 Pella Progress Bowl
PB 05 MVP2
Rashad Troup, Murray MVP
with Coke's Mark Hart
The Tennessee schools swept the Kentucky teams and spoiled the debuts of both homestanding coaches at the 3rd Annual Pella Progress Bowl on August 20 at Calloway Co. High School. In the first game, Dyersburg High School toppled Murray High 35-7 and then the Dyer Co. Choctaws held off Calloway Co. 21-7 in the nightcap. Coach Lee Edwards at Murray and Josh McKeel at Calloway took the field for the first time.
Unseasonably hot weather delayed the start of the evening's competition by nearly an hour. With temps near 100 degree and high humidity, KHSAA safety rules were abided to ensure the safety of the student-athletes.
When the competition started it was the Tennesse clubs that remained hot.
The Murray Tigers jumped out to a 7-0 lead before Dyersburg got rolling behind speedy tailback Mitch Eakin. Eakin would score four times on the night and tally nearly 250 yards of offense to lead James Counce's club. Murray's offense had plenty of yardage, but no points due to six turnovers. Rashad Troupe and Jon Wilson both had well over 100 rushing yards.
Eakin and Troupe were awarded the Coca-Cola MVPs for Dyersburg and Murray, respectively.
The nightcap did not start till nearly 10 o'clock but a good portion of the 2,300 on hand at Jack D. Rose stadium stayed around for the early action.
Calloway came up empty on two possessions that reached inside the 10 yard line and the momentum swayed toward Dyer Co. The Choctaws took a 7-0 halftime lead behind Andre Flowers. Dyer Co. went up 14-0 in the third quarter before Calloway Co. got on the board with a Devon Winchester to Jordan Williams 18-yard strike with nearly 4:00 left in the contest. Calloway stopped Dyer Co. and had a final march to tie the game that stalled at Dyer Co.'s 40-yard line. The Choctaws scored a mop up TD as time ran out.
Flowers took home MVP honors for Dyer Co. with over 190 rushing yards, while Calloway TE/LB Tyler Brockman was named Coca-Cola MVP for the Lakers with over 50 yards receiving and 10 tackles.
The 4th Annual Pella Progress Bowl returns August 19, 2006 and is slated to be held at Murray's Ty Holland Field. Calloway will face Dyersburg in the early game and Murray will tackle Dyer Co. in the nightcap.

Attention to Betty's care and wellbeing have taken top priority over the days following the tournament.

4th Annual Back To School Bash Sloshes Thru the Weekend
2005 Tshirt Art
The 4th Annual Back To School Bash made it through a soggy weekend of play as a severe summertime storm hammered Murray on Saturday afternoon and tossed much of the tourney schedule into flux for the 78 competing teams. The showers kept many of the divisions from holding actual championship games. The winners will be crowned based on tiebreakers in the 9u, 10u, 11u and 12u divisions.
The final standings for the Back To School Bash are expected to be released on this site on Tuesday evening.
Thanks to all of the participating teams for weathering the storm and playing ball in west Kentucky this weekend. A special thanks to our local parks department that worked dilligently to get many of the fields back into playable shape Saturday night and Sunday morning.

Despite many inquiries, the School's Out Bash DID NOT MAKE for June 24-26. Thanks and we look forward to having you play in the Quad State Shootout July 15-17 in Draffenville, KY. We have lots of teams already entered and this should be a quality event.

2005 Pella Progress Bowl Kicks Off Local Gridiron Season
2005 Pella Bowl logo
Murray, KY - The region’s 2005 high school gridiron season is just around the corner and kicks off with the 3rd Annual Pella Progress Bowl at Calloway Co. High School's Jack Rose Stadium August. The '05 edition will feature Calloway Co. and Murray High battling invaders Dyer Co. and Dyersburg TN in the Saturday twin bill.
The Murray Tigers will take on the Dyersburg Trojans at 6 pm with the nightcap featuring the Calloway Lakers and Dyer Co. Choctaws around 8 pm.
Advance tickets will go on sale in August at participating schools and area Murray businesses.
Marching bands from the participating schools are also scheduled to perform between games and during halftimes at the Pella Progress Bowl as part of an outstanding band showcase.
The Progress Bowl is sponsored by The Pella Corporation which opened one of its seven nationwide manufacturing plants to Murray in 2002. Pella’s Murray Manufacturing Plant currently employs over 700 and features the Pella, Iowa-based company’s new Impervia line of windows and doors in addition to a line of their traditional vinyl products.
This year’s Pella Progress Bowl marks the coming out party for two new coaches. Calloway's McKeel and Murray's Coach Edwards. Both new mentors promise to bring new offensive and defensive schemes to their respective programs. The Tigers debuted in the Pella Bowl last year with a win over Lone Oak. This will be the third year for the Lakers in the Pella Bowl. Calloway is 1-1 in its first two appearances.
Dyersburg is a perennial Tennessee playoff contender and this year should be no different for Coach Counce, a MSU alum. The Trojans have athletes throughout their lineup and simply restock annually after graduation. Dyersburg was 5-5 last year and is 2-0 in Pella Bowl appearances.
The Dyer Co. club finished at 3-7 under coach Adam Renshaw in 2004 but did qualify for the TN playoffs. This will be the first appearance for the Choctaws in the Pella Bowl.
The 2005 Pella Progress Bowl is produced by Teamwork Marketing and Promotions of Murray, Kentucky. For more information, or to secure media credentials contact Tab Brockman at 270-767-TEAM or via email at

THURSDAY - 3:00 pm CDT

Hurricane Dennis dumped nearly 4" of rain on local fields through Wednesday morning and then more local showers hit Wednesday evening. We were still holding out hope until the third of three rounds of Thursday showers hit this afternoon at 2:30 p.m. The fields are unplayable and minimal sunshine is forecast for the remainder of Thursday and Friday.
The tournament will not be made up.

The 2003 Pella Progress Bowl was a resounding success in its inaugural year as nearly 3,000 fans rolled into Roy Stewart Stadium to see Marshall County, Dyersburg and Calloway County come out on top in each of their respective contests.
The Marshals won the opening contest 26-16 over Owensboro in a battle of size and will. Marshall jumped out early but the contest was still in doubt until late in the fourth quarter before coach Tracy Cleaver's club pulled out the win.
Dyersburg displayed outstanding team spead in rolling to 42-13 win over Graves County. From kick returns to defensive closure, the Trojans' speed was the difference. Graves Co. rallied in the second quarter before Dyersburg put the game away with a big third quarter for the win.
Calloway County scored 18 unanswered points in the second half for an 18-12 comeback win over Grayson County in the nightcap. The Lakers used their air attack to rally against the Cougars' defense while Grayson's Wing T attack was not as productive after intermission.
Great games, great marching bands and great entertainment from the ZOOperstars combined to make the inaugural Pella Progress Bowl an instant must-see for the 2004 season. Marshall Co. will face Grayson Co. Graves Co. will battle Owensboro. And, Calloway Co. will take on Dyersburg in the '04 event.
