Team Tour 1    2012 Basketball European Basketball Tour

Departing July  23, 2012

Day 1 Depart USA for Ireland

Day 2 Arrive Dublin Ireland.    Bus to Donegal, Ireland.  Met by host Kevin Sinclair and the Donegal basketball club families in the town center.  Depart with families for an evening get together.

Day 3 Team members travel with host to city center for a practice and sightseeing.

Day 4  Morning sightseeing and practice.  Evening game.

Day 5-9 Depart Donegal by bus for return to Dublin and flight to Riga Latvia, a seaport city.  Evening arrival.  Riga was a major center of the Hanseatic League and prospered from its trade with central and eastern Europe in the 13th-15th centuries. The urban fabric of its medieval center reflects this prosperity, although most of its earlier buildings have been destroyed by fire and war. In the 19th century it became a very important economic center, and the suburbs of the medieval town were built, first in imposing wooden buildings in classical style.  It is generally recognized that Riga contains the finest concentration of Art Nouveau buildings in Europe. A most impressive city that will leave a special memory for all. Lately Latvia has become the cultural and financial capital of Eastern Europe. Our host club, Riga 3BJSS Basketball club, will be our host..  Host Mareks Bajars has been a regular visitor to the USA and plans on bringing a team to the USA in June 2012.  He is making arrangements that will include games and sightseeing in "old town" Riga as well as visits to games and sightseeing in Liepaja, the third largest city in Latvia, a city of located by the sea.  Also in the planning stages, if possible, a visit to Ventspils, an old seaport city dating back to 1290 for games and sightseeing.

Mareks is working hard to provide us with city tours, a barbecue, and some time with our family hosts that will give us insight into a culture with a history dating back over a thousand years.

Day 10  Depart Riga for Tampere, Finland by air for the Delfin Cup Basketball Championship featuring over 250 teams.  Stay with host families.

Day 10-14 Tampere, Finland...Delfin Cup basketballtournament with over 250 teams and sightseeing in the beautiful old northern Finnish city.

Day 15 Depart Tampere by bus for Helsinki....depart Helsinki for USA
