What is Tri-County Hockey?
In 1976, a small group of Brockport residents wanted to give young people in the area a chance to play organized hockey. Their work, along with efforts of the Brockport Lions, formed Brockport Lions Club Hockey. Over the years, the club grew to encompass many towns from Monroe, Orleans and Genesee Counties. In 1983, the club was incorporated and became Tri-County Eagles Youth Hockey, Inc. Today we are proud to say that the league has grown to 24 teams with close to 400 boys and girls ranging in ages from 4 to 17. We have a development program that teaches young players how to skate and introduces them to the basic skills of hockey. There are also house teams, advanced travel teams and an all-girl's team. The league has been very successful over the years. We have had numerous divisional and state championship teams. While it is great to experience the joys of winning, Tri-County teaches that it is equally important to be gracious with a loss. The league also encourages fun, respect, hard work and team play, with special attention given to player self esteem. The season begins in mid-September and continues well into March. During the season, there are player clinics, tournaments and year-end playoffs. Additionally, at the end of the year, there is a trophy presentation party for each team. All of the people involved with our league are volunteers and spend many hours of hard work to make this a fun, learning experience for all players. Be forewarned: hockey is a very addicting sport and a great way for the players and families to have fun during the cold winter months. WHERE ARE YOU LOCATED? The home ice surface for Tri-County Hockey is located at the Tuttle Ice Arena on the campus of SUNY Brockport. All home games and most practice sessions, for both travel and house divisions, are held at this location. However, due to ice availability, these activities might take place at another rink. Parents are notified well in advance so they can make the appropriate arrangements. WHAT DO I NEED? Hockey is a contact sport which requires full protective equipment. All players must comply with approved equipment or they will not be allowed to participate in the program. The following list shows the gear required: Helmet Facemask Neck guard Shin pads Mouthpiece Gloves Shoulder pads Elbow pads Pants Supporter/cup Goaltenders require the following special equipment: Leg pads Gloves (catching and stick/blocker) Chest and stomach protector Shoulder/arm protectors The league can provide the special goaltenders equipment for a nominal yearly rental fee. Additionally, each player will need skates (that fit properly and stick(s). The team sweaters (jerseys) and socks will be provided by the league at no additional charge. Finally, bring a good attitude and a willingness to learn and you're ready to go. HOW MUCH DOES IT COST? The costs cannot be established at this time due to the fluctuating costs associated with ice. The actual cost will be established prior to player registration night. Please note, any tournaments or special team events are in addition to the normal league fees. WHEN CAN I GET STARTED? Player registration is usually held during the month of July. In the past, it has been held at the Brockport Elks Club. The actual date and location will be announced in the late spring. Also, at the registration, there is an abundance of used equipment that can be purchased at very reasonable prices. MORE QUESTIONS . . . Thank you for your interest in Tri-County Hockey.
