The Texans took 1st place at the Super Series of America Red River Shootout tournament June 19th in Wichita Falls
Game 1 was played on Saturday against the Pirates. The Texans got off to a slow start in this game, scoring only 4 runs in the first while giving up 7 to the Pirates. The second inning turned out to be the key inning as the first Pirate reached base, but he was stranded at third as the Texans retired the next 3 Pirates in order. Trailing 7-4 heading into the bottom of the second, the Texans bats came to life. Eight batters came to the plate and 7 runs were scored without an out being recorded. The third inning proved to be a reversal of the first as the Texans scored their 7 runs and the Pirates were held to 4, giving the Texans an 18-4 victory.
Game 2 on Saturday against the Mustangs saw the Texans play just about a perfect game. The Mustangs were only able to record one out against the Texans batters. Each Texan scored at least once and the team scored the maximum 7 runs in each inning. Meanwhile, the defense was as tight as it has been all year. In the first inning, the Mustangs scored 2 runs, while Ross Humphreys and Jacob Frisbie combined for two pitcher to 1b putouts. The Texans held the Mustangs to 3 in the second, thanks in great part to some flashy leather being displayed by Liam Rickey. The middle of the infield for the Texans led to a 3 up/3 down third inning and a 21-5 victory. Keegan Hall and Eli Rusche led the Texans offensively both going 2-2 and scoring 2 runs.
In the third and final game on Saturday the Texans got of to another slow start, then showed great heart capping off a perfect day by beating the Cubs 25-15. The first inning was an exact copy of the first inning of the game against the Pirates, leaving the Texans down 7-4 heading into the second. The Cubs only managed one run in their half of the second once again thanks to the solid defense of the Texans. In the bottom half of the inning the Texans bats came to life as they put up 7, including a home run by Liam Rickey. The bottom of the third saw the Texans put up another 7 spot on the clubs, including another home run by Liam and Kalen Haynes one hopping a line drive over the center field fence. Elliot Franzke went 4-4 and scored 4 runs, Eli Rusche went 3-3 with 3 runs scored, Riley Larza went 3-3 with runs scored and along with Kalen and Liam led the Texans defensively. Ryon Ruffner continued to light it offensively and made a spectacular catch in left field.
The first game of the day on Sunday proved to be more of the same as the Texans trounced the Pirates 14-3. The Texans managed to send 17 batters to the plate without recording an out. The defense was once again superb limiting the Pirates to 1 run in the first, 2 runs in the second and none in the the third.
The Championship game proved to be the most exciting game of the tournament. The Texans got off to a good start leading 14 to 11 after 2 innings. The top of the first saw the Cubs put up 5 runs on the scoreboard. In the first inning all 8 Texans reached base safely leading to 7 runs. The Cubs kept the pressure on the Texans bats by scoring 6 runs in the top of the second. Showing the heart of a champion the Texans struck right back by putting up 7 in their half of the second. Defense took hold in the third inning. Once again the defense of the Texans was solid as they limited the Cubs to 3 runs in the top half of the third, tying the game at 14. In the bottom half of the third, for the first time in the tournament, the Texans were held scoreless. The pressure was now on the defense to hold the Cubs in check in the top of the fourth. Thanks to the defensive efforts of Liam, Jacob and Elliot the Cubs were held to 5 runs. Meaning if the Texans could score 6 runs in the bottom of the fourth the tournament and trophies were theirs. Ross led off the inning with a single, followed by singles by Elliot and Jacob. It was up to the heart of the lineup and boy did they respond. Consecutive hits by Kalen Haynes, Nick Morris, Colton Anders, Dawson Parker led to the Texans scoring 5 runs to tie the game. Ryon Ruffner stepped to the plate and rifled a shot into the outfield scoring Colton to win the game and the Championship!
