16u Renegades come up just short in Diamond-AAU Invitational finish 2nd.

The Renegades played in the High School Division of the Inaugaral Diamond Sports Classic, this Thanksgiving weekend.  Making it all the way to the Championship only to lose to state arch-rival Chet Lemon's Juice team. After falling behind 6-0, the Renegades rallied whenTyler King hit a 2-out grand slam to tie the game at 6-6 in the 4th. However the Juice proved to be too tough on his day rallying for a 12-7 win and Clinching the championship.

In the semi final, Mark Monroe pitched a 2-hitter for a 4-1 win against a very strong California Quakes team from Los Angeles. Tripp Merrell drove in 3-runs, with a single, double and triple.

The Indiana Yankees, a solid travel team composed of juniors and seniors was shut down by Tripp Merrell on Saturday. The offense led by the TK's- Tyler King and Tyler Kellman pounded out 10 runs against Indiana. For a 10-2 win and a shot at California.

Pool play games included a 16-3 win over the Clearwater Threshers and 8-0 over the Trinity Titans as well as a 6-3 loss to the Indiana Yankees.

16u Renegades win AAU HS- Slug-A-Rama
The Slug-a -Rama was a lot of fun. We had great hitting and pitching all around after the first game. It is great to see that the boys have not lost their championship fire. With a 17-0 win in the 2nd game on saturday after an ugly opening round loss the stage was set for a run at the trophy. Will Fulmer,Tyler King (2-doubles)and Tyler Kellman(triple) each had 3 hits in 3 at bats.
In sunday's elimination round Tripp M.went the distance (6 inn)after allowing only 1-run in the first and securing an 11-1 win against the Threshers. Will F.,  Sean O., Tyler Kellman, Andre' O.and Kyle G. each had 2 hits. Sean hit a solo homer over the left field fence.
Followed by an outstanding pitching performance by Kraig R. in the Semi-Final against the highly favored Chet Lemon's Juice All-Star Team.
After a 2 run first inning by the Juice, it was all Renegades taking a 4-2 lead into the 6th as Kraig baffled the batters with his off speed stuff. On offense Tripp doubled and scored on a squeeze play when the lefty pitcher went to first to pick off T. Kellman and then in the 5th Tyler Kellman set up a 2 run inning laying down a masterful bunt down 3rd to advance Tripp and set up 2 more runs.Tyler King  got a single in the 6th stole 2nd and scored on a double by Sean O.,Mark M. followed with another single apparently scoring Sean but the umpire ruled that he stepped on catcher's foot and not the plate for a strange end to the inning.Mark Monroe took over and the mound and after a single by James Ramsey hung an 0-1 change-up to the DH -Talady who homered and had 3 of the Juices 6-hits on the day to tie the Game at 4-4.
In the 7th Kyle G.drove Andre' O.in from 2nd on a 2 out single to center for a 5-4 lead. Mark struck out the lead off batter, and beaned ex Renegade Eric Arce on an 0-2 pitch to put the tying run on first, but proceeded to strike out the next batter on a 3-2 curve ball and Andrew gunned down Arce at 2nd for the final out of the game.
After a little fun at RJ Gators watching the 4th quarter of the Bucs win over the Titans it was back to the fields and the championship Game against the Volusia Attack who beat us 12-2 in the opening game in 4-innings and averaged 13 runs per game to get to the Championship. Travis Webster must have gotten inspired because he pitched a complete 7 inning 4-hit shutout allowing just one walk against a very good hitting ballclub. Andrew Mc had 2- doubles/2 runs and Sean O.-1 double and a single/ 3 rbi's, Tyler King 2-singles 2-runs/2 rbi's  and Tripp added another double to lead the offense. The result another championship for the Renegades.
Despite playing with 9 and 10 players all tournament and without some of our key pitchers the Renegades showed that they are still. Mark Monroe and Tyler King our most recent additions certainly stepped up and promise to help the Team as we move forward. We now have 3 former Braden River Hurricanes on the team. Longtime Renegade Tyler Kellman was also a welcome addition, it is nice to have him back up with us.

RENEGADES TAKE BRONZE MEDAL at AAU NATIONALS
The Renegades had high hopes of repeating as National Championships this summer but came up short. Despite playing some outstanding baseball all week and staying in the winner's bracket until the last day, The New Jersey based Tri State Arsenal beat the Renegades 4-3 and knocked the team down into the losers bracket final against the Carolina Avalanche from Greenville, SC.

The Avalanche jumped out to a quick 7-1 lead in the first 2 innings of the semi-final putting the Renegades in a big hole. The team however came back with a vengence in the bottom of the 3rd with a 10 run inning. Eric Arce led off with a single, 6 singles and a double by Sean O'brien followed, and Arce capped the inning with a 3 run homer.

The Avalanche however kept coming back scoring 1 in the 5th, 4 in the 6th to tie at 12-12 and again 1 to tie it at 13-13 in the 7th after the Renegades scored.

The game went for 2 more scoreless innings until The Avalanche scored a run in the top of the 10th on a single, stolen base a sac bunt and a single by their 9th batter. The Renegades loaded the bases in the bottom of the inning but failed to score ending their chance to play the Arsenal for the National Championship.

In the end, Playing with only 10 players turned out to be too difficult. The Renegades ran tight on pitching and some of the players had to play hurt and sick since there was no one else to replace them. All in all it was a great tournament and the boys showed they were the team to beat. All week they faced the #1 pitchers and battled every game until the last out. Both the Arsenal and the Avalanche game went down to the last pitch with the tying and winning runs on 2nd and 3rd. So we know these boys will be back next year knowing they could have repeated!

Congradulations to the Tri State Arsenal who beat the Avalanche 7-5 for the 2007 National Championship!!

Can The Renegades Repeat in 2007?
The Tampa Bay Renegades are getting ready for the AAU National Championships in Kingsport, Tennessee starting on June 30. Repeating as National Champions is always a challenge, and some injuries to the pitching staff will make it even more difficult. However, these boys have shown a lot of drive and fortitude and they will be up to the challenge. Despite not playing together as a team since December, the team went 3-1 at the state tournament losing 2-1 in the quarter finals to the Bloomingdale Bullets Baseball Team in extra innings despite Travis Webster's 7- inning no-hitter. One of the keys to our team's success is the continuity of the players. Where most teams constantly pick up players the Renegades have managed to stay intact.
A one week tune up at the IMG Academy in Bradenton will help get the team focused and ready for Tennessee. Todd Shorter, Kyle Griffith, Sean O'brien and Andre' Ortega will have to step up and shore up the pitching staff. Patrick Camporini, Travis Webster and Casey Mullholand will handle most of the pitching duty, with Andrew McCormick, Eric Arce and Will Fulmer behind the plate.

Renegades place 3rd in High School L2 Div at States
The Renegades kept their winning streak intact all of the fall season until the semi Final Game of the AAU L-2 State Championship and settling for 3rd Place. The game against the Space Coast Stars, was a one sided 5-3 game in which the Renegades made 3 rare and crucial baserunning errors, literally taking the offense out of the Game. The Stars played a solid game taking advantage of Renegade mistakes and getting some clutch hitting on the way to the Championship Game. As usual the Renegades battled to the end, getting a couple of hits in the last inning and ending the game with the tying run on base. The long day apparently took it's toll on the Renegades who started at 6am or earlier to travel to Winter Haven against a team who's first game was at 12:30pm.

In the Quarter Finals Kraig Richmond pitched a 7 inning, 1-hitter to beat the Manatee Sandlot Sluggers 5-1.Led by Chris Knott's 2-run Homer on offense.

In the Sunday Morning 8 am game,Todd Shorter's return to the mound after a whole year off proved to be a shot of Adrenilin for the team as the Renegades beat the Braden River Hurricanes 8-3. Todd went the distance on the mound. Will Fulmer and Chris Knott had 3 hits apiece, Eric Arce with 2 hits and Kraig Richmond hit a 3-run Blast over the right centerfield fence to put the game on ice.

In the win over the Central Fl Slayers, Casey Mulholland had 3 hits,3 runs and 2 rbi's,Chris Knott 3 hits 1 run and 3 rbi's leading to a 13 run 4 inning victory.
Kraig pitched 3 innings , striking out 6 batters.

The Renegades, remain basically a 14-15 year old team competing against older teams. So we have to be very proud of our team and know that we will only get better!Despite injuries this fall the team has managed to stay together and when everyone is healthy and available we should be able to make a good run at defending our National championship ths Summer!

AAU 1ST PITCH CHAMPS- HIGH SCHOOL L2 DIVISION
The rain could not stop the 15u Renegades at the AAU 1st Pitch Classic. Despite being rained out for the weekend for the second straight tournament the Renegades returned to the field to win the first major Tournament of the fall. Going 5-0 against JV squads from around the state with 16 and 17 jr old players. The final was a great 7-2 game between the Renegades and the Bullets Baseball team from Durant High. With Patrick Camporini sick as a dog all day, he managed to take the mound and hold the Bullets to 2-runs. The renegades were in a tight 2-2 game until the 4th when Kraig Richmond hit a bomb off the left field fence with a runner at third to break up the tie. Tripp Merrel followed with another double scoring Kraig. The bats came Alive as Eric Arce hit a shot off the right field fence for a double starting a 3 run rally the next inning.
Patrick then dug deep and found enough energy to finish the complete game.

Triple Crown Tourney Washed out
The rain would not stop! It seemed like there was a cloud right over The Triple Crown Tournament in Clearwater all weekend while it was sunny in the rest of the state. The Renegades beat the West Fl. Outlaws Friday night 4-0 behind the pitching of Travis Webster and Tripp Merrell despite the rusty bats from the month long layoff.Andre' Ortega and Kraig Richmond each had 2 hits. In the second game, the bats finally got going and it seemed that even the outs were well hit. Andre' Ortega and Andrew McCormick combined for a 7-2 win over the Broward County Nationals.Tripp Merrell went 3 for 3 with 2 doubles and the rest of the lineup managed at least 1 hit each. Despite going 2-0 and being in position to advance to Semi- finals the rain soaked fields could take no more and all games were cancelled.

2006 Div 1- AAU National Champions!
The Renegades never let their guard down and never fell behind at the AAU Nationals in Sarasota until the 3rd inning of the Championship game when the Virginia Breeze took a 3-0 lead. In the bottom half of the inning , Kyle Griffith led off with a first pitch line shot to left, Andrew McCormick walked and Todd Shorter singled to right-center to score Griffith. Will Fulmer squeezed McCormick home and Sean O'brien Doubled home Shorter to tie the score. the inning ended with bases loaded but the Breeze were able to get out of the jam. With the score tied at 3-3 the Renegades never looked back! In bottom of the 4th, Kyle Griffith singled again with one out to start another rally. Tripp Merrell walked, Shorter singled scoring Griffith, Fulmer singled scoring Merrell and Shorter, O'brien doubled again this time into the left ceterfield warning track scoring Fulmer, JR Murphy singled to left and Casey Mulholland drove O'brien home with a shot single to left. The score after 4 was now 8-3.

Kraig Richmond who started the game struck out 5 of the first 6 batters he faced, but the breeze got 4-hits in the 3rd and 2 in the fifth which along with 2 walks led to 2 more Breeze runs.Patrick Camporini came out in relief and quickly put an end to the Breeze's rally.

The bottom of the 5th was started off with another Single by Kyle Griffith and a beatifully placed bunt single by Andrew McCormick which the Breeze were not even able to make a play. Merrell walked again to load the bases. Shorter popped up fr the first out and Will Fulmer followed with his second squeeze bunt of the game, this time scoring 2 runs as Andre Ortega, pinch running for McCormick broke early and scored from 2nd diving into home plate before the Breeze even knew what happened.O'brien singled home Merrell and Murphy hit a 385 ft triple to center scoring O'brien.

Patrick Camporini cruised through the last 2 innings to earn the save and become the center of the pile up on the mound as the Renegades stormed Camporini when Casey Mulholland caught a fly ball to end the game and piled up College World Series style on the mound.

10-0 record for the tournament, outscored opponents 105-29 in 10 games. Only trailed the other team once and that was for half of an inning. What a great week of baseball! An 18-1 record for the month of July(when it counts)and more importantly achieving the goal we always wanted becoming the 2006 AAU National Champs!

AAU Nationals start Saturday,July 22nd with the Renegades as the #2 seed.Stay tuned for schedules as they will be posted as they are released.

IBC World Series
Monday, July 17
Another disappointing Championship at IBC World Series!
The Renegades came up short again this time losing to the East Cobb Dodgers in the IBC World Series 5-3 in a game that ended with bases loaded and a line drive to right field. It was a battle to the last out. Despite a great run during the tournament. After taking a month off this summer the team was hoping that this tourney would get us tuned up for the AAU Nationals in Sarasota. The boys played some outstanding baseball all week despite some very tough competition.
5 renegades made the All Tournament Team.
Kraig Richmond was selected as the tournament's Best Offensive Player, and Sean O'Brien, Patrick Camporini,Kyle Griffith and Todd Shorter were selected to the All Tournament Team. The amazing thing was that the tourney was a true team effort and Based on performance at least 4 other Renegades could have been picked.
Congradulations for a great week of baseball.
The real shame is that based on the double elimination format of the tournament the East Cobb Team should have had to play the Renegades again since they had lost to us 6-3 in our quarterfinal meeting. With both teams having one loss apiece there should have been a championship game. Based on all of the tie break criteria established by the IBC rules and regulations the Renegades should have been declared the winners based on runs allowed. This should serve our boys well in the most important tournament of the year, The AAU National Championships. We don't want any more runner-up finishes!

Renegades Ready for IBC World Series and AAUNationals
The Tampa Bay Renegades after a month layoff since the AAU State Championships have resumed practices and are ready to make a run at 2 National Tournaments.

With the return of Tripp Merrell and longtime Renegade Todd Shorter the Renegades look stronger than ever! Mario Labrador's move to North Carolina and Sean O'Brien's
Trip to Nike Basketball left the Renegades shorthanded at the State Championship Game. Having Sean back in the lineup will also be a major factor at Nationals.

Also joining the Renegades for Nationals is Travis Webster an outstanding pitcher who also swings a big bat.

The teams at both the IBC and AAU Nationals better get ready because the Renegades look ready to roll!

Coghlan picked 36th overall by Marlins
The Following Article is from the St. Pete Times: Congradulations to Chris and the Coghlan Family!
Both Chris and his younger brother Kevin are Renegade Alumni and were part of the origional Tampa Bay Renegade teams.

Rays/MLB
Mom first thought on thrilling day
By BRIAN SUMERS
Published June 7, 2006

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

As soon as his bonus check arrives, Chris Coghlan will buy his mom a present.

He can't say what it is, because that would ruin the surprise. But it will be nice.

"There's nothing I can give her to repay her for what she's done," Coghlan said. "She's been there. The strongest person I know in my life."

Heather Roefaro comforted him five years ago when his father, Tim, died in a car accident.

And she will share in the riches now that the Marlins have selected Chris in the supplemental first round, 36th overall, in Tuesday's Major League Baseball amateur draft.

"I just love my mom, and hopefully I can do something that shows what she's done for me," he said.

Coghlan, the Times' all-Suncoast Player of the Year in 2003, has been through the draft before. Selected in the 18th round by Arizona after his senior season at East Lake, Coghlan chose to attend the University of Mississippi.

This time, he is ready.

A junior third baseman, Coghlan has started all 63 Rebels games, batting .349 with four home runs and 48 RBIs. Mississippi hosts Miami in a super region beginning Saturday.

Heather already is in town, and mother and son planned a quiet celebratory dinner Tuesday night.

He can't celebrate too much, because he hopes to lead the Rebels to the College World Series.

Though the Marlins like his hitting skills, they also covet his leadership skills.

"Our scouts feel real good about his makeup," said Jim Fleming, Marlins vice president of player development and scouting. "He's a tough guy. He's a team guy. He plays very hard."

Fleming watched Coghlan, 20, play at the Southeastern Conference Tournament, where he helped lead the Rebels to the championship by batting .389.

And Tuesday, the first time Fleming and Coghlan spoke, the Marlins executive offered a simple compliment.

"Chris," he said, "You're a heck of a good-looking hitter."

Still, he is not a power hitter. And with major-league teams looking for players who can hit home runs to play third, Coghlan knows he could switch to second.

Fleming said Coghlan will begin his minor-league career at third but left open the possibility of a switch.

"I'll play wherever the organization wants me to," said Coghlan, a shortstop and second baseman in high school.

No matter where he plays, he has come a long way from East Lake High.

Coghlan left baseball briefly after his father died, choosing not to play at all in summer 2001.

Though he quickly returned to his favorite sport, Coghlan still remembers his father. Monday marked the fifth anniversary of the accident.

"It's definitely a special day," Coghlan said. "There's no doubt I thought about it. I definitely miss him."

His mom has remarried and moved from Palm Harbor to Tarpon Springs. Coghlan still considers Florida home.

And maybe someday, perhaps not far from now, he'll get to play major-league baseball just a few hours from home.

He certainly hopes so.

RENEGADES 14U STATE TITLE LOST -TIRED UMPIRES MISS CALL
In what should have been the deciding play for the State Championship a pair of tired umpires could not come up with the right call. The State final between the Renegades and the Tampa Blades was a great battle between some outstanding pitchers. However the umpire crew working their 7th game of the day struggled all night to control the game and be in position to make the calls.

Following a 2-out 2-run triple by JR Murphy, Kraig Richmond hit a shot over centerfielder James Ramsey's head in which James made an incredible, athletic turning diving attempt to field the ball, however the ball came loose and down on the ground. Ramsey, who landed on the ball quickly fired the ball into the infield in an attempt to get Kraig at second.
However, the base umpire who remained behind the mound during the play called the play a catch and in effect killed the inning and took JR's run off the board. The play as it turns out would have been the difference in the game in regulation play.
Had the run scored the final score would have been 4-3. John Ryan Murphy pitched a gutsy 7 innings despite a super tight strike zone.

Instead with the game tied at 3-3 the game went into extra innings. The Renegades scored 1 in the 8th on a single by Casey Mulholland, followed by a base hit bunt by Will Fulmer and a sacrifice bunt, intentional walk to Murphy. A missed squeeze play resulted in a run anyway when Casey got interfered with during a run down by the third baseman.Casey Mulholland came in to pitch. In the bottom of the inning the Blades scored on a lead off double by Mark Monroe down the left field line followed by a clutch 2-out hit by Ramsey.

Nick Moore hit a double in the top of the 9th but got stranded. The Blades went down 1,2,3.

In the 10th Will got a single, Zach Payne made a great diving catch on Patrick's liner to center, JR walked and Kraig flied out. after stiking out the lead off man, Crouch walked was replaced by a pinch runner who got 2nd on a wild pitch. Munroe popped up for the 2nd out, bringing up Teddy Willis. In a classic match up Mulholland got Willis to full count before Teddy drove a base hit to right to drive in the winning run.

Ramsey who went the final 7 innings for the Blades got the win.

In the end it was an incredible, Championship Game with the Blades repeating as STATE CHAMPS. Congradulations to The Blades who ran the table all season as the #1 team and endured in the end. Just keep looking over your shoulders because the Renegades are coming to get you at Nationals!

In the Semi-final against the Central Fl Bomb Squad, the Renegades prevailed 4-1 running their tournament record to 5-0 and into the Championship match up with the Blades.Kraig Richmond pitched 6-innings giving up one run on a Colin Richardson, (their pitcher) homer to lead off the Second inning. The lead would be short lived as Patrick led off the 4th with a single and JR Murphy hit a towering Home Run into the houses across the street, for a 2-1 lead. Kraig followed up with a back to back blast that just missed a moving car driving on the street behind left field. Kyle hit a shot up the middle Andrew Mcormick moved him to third on a well placed slap bunt between the 1st and 2nd base and Andre' Ortega squeezed him home for the final run.
Casey Mulholland struck out the side for the Save! It was the Renegades 3rd straight win over the Bomb Squad after a tough season opening 5-2 loss in the President's Day tourney.

The quarter final game started out with the Renegades making 3 rare fielding errors in the 1st accounting for a 1 run lead for the Orlando Reds. In the bottom of the first Casey led off with a hit, Will sacrificed him over and Patrick drove him home with a line drive base hit.

Patrick settled down on the mound and started to mow down the Reds. In the Bottom of the 2nd Kyle Griffith hit the first pitch out of the park in Left field to take a 2-1 lead. Andrew followed with a hit and scored on Jake Shellenberger's single.

Camporini took over and finished the complete game with 10 strikeouts, and allowed just 3 hits. A 4-run 6th inning with hits by Patrick, JR, Kraig, Andrew and Nick iced a 7-1 win.

Playing cross State rivals the Lakeland Renegades in the opening round of the State Championships has become almost a tradition! The always tough Renegades have always been tough and incredibly competitive. But on this day the TB renegade bats came to play! The 2nd game proved a little more difficult as Kraig Richmond struggled tofind the Strike Zone and gave up 5 runs in 3-innings on 5-hits to the Port Charlotte Thunder.

Down 5-0, the Renegades began to find their bats as Nick Moore, Jake Schellenberger singled and were driven home by Will Fulmer's hit. Jake took over on the mound and got 3 quick outs. With the Thunder leading 5-2 and their ace Holmberg on the mound ,Patrick,JR and Kyle singled, Andrew drove home Patrick with a base hit, Andre' squeezed JR home and Kyle scored an agressive head first dive at home on a passed ball despite the short backstop. The score was now 5-5 and it was a brand new game.

Jake hit a batter and walked the next leading to a Port Charlotte go ahead run. Murphy came in with 1 out and struck out the side to get out of the inning. Kyle led off the inning with an infield hit, Kraig got beaned and Andrew hit into a double play but moved Kyle to third. Andre' kept fouling off pitches to stay alive eventually getting one in the dirt and a walk which allowed Kyle to score again on the wild pitch and tie the game.

In the bottom of the 7th, 2 out singles by Will and Patrick set the stage for a JR Murphy blast over the Center Fielder's Head which ended the game as soon as Will touched home. A wild and exiting win over a tough Thunder Team. Murphy got the win and struck out 5 in 2 2/3 innings.

In the final pool play game vs the O-town Sportscenter, Andre' Ortega struggled to find the strike zone, with 5 walks but allowed only one run Thanks to 2 infield double plays. Jake opened the 3rd with a single followed by a Casey double will singled, Patrick snuck one into centerfield and Murphy hit a Double for a 3-1 lead.
Jake scored in the 5th after a sigle by Casey and a Bunt base hit by Will.

It was great to have Casey Mullholland rejoin the team after his JV baseball season.

Clearwater

The Tornadoes return five starters, and Coach Doug Banks said Clearwater can return to the county's elite once again.

Left fielder Minner Labrador will be the big stick for the Tornadoes. He batted .377 last season and will move to left field, making room for Cale Owen, who is one of the team's better defenders. Batting leadoff will be Michael Ortega (.308 in 2004), who was the Tornadoes' best defensive player last season.

As usual, the team will advance as far as pitching can take it. If Michael Booth can transform himself from a solid reliever into a starter, Clearwater might have a lot of success. Ortega is also the team's No. 2 pitcher.

`If a couple of players step up, we will surprise some people,` Banks said. `If not, we will be in the middle of the pack.`

This season, the Tornadoes move all but two of their home games from the Carpenter Complex to Jack Russell Stadium. The remaining home games will be played at Bright House Networks Field.

Clearwater Central Catholic

Three years ago, the Marauders won a state baseball title. Two years ago, the team advanced to the state championship game. This year may be a rebuilding season.

Bobby Uzdavines is not one of the question marks. The senior infielder led CCC in hitting the past two seasons, posting a .480 average in 2004.

`He's a big key,` said CCC coach Todd Vaughan. `He just has to keep doing what he is doing.` Others who Vaughan hopes can get timely hits are center fielder Brett McKean, catcher Bobby Wilson and first baseman Zach Upton. `We have seven seniors but not a lot of experience.`

`I'm hoping all the guys we have with good gloves get us some scrappy hits,` Vaughan said. `And I hope our pitchers can throw strikes, let teams hit the ball so the [defense] can do what they do.`

Some more help may come later in the season. Outfielder Riley Cooper, a gifted hitter, is recuperating from a separated shoulder suffered playing for the CCC football squad. Because of his football commitments and injury, he hasn't worked out with the baseball squad.

Countryside

The Cougars hope speed and defense are the keys to a march through the playoffs. It's possible Countryside will rotate four players in outfield: Jonathan Scott, Matt Mooney, Jared Cayavec and Chris Lavenia. The first three are the quickest on the squad on the base paths.

Josh Castanza will be the No. 1 pitcher. He throws a fastball routinely clocked at 85 mph. Jimmy Gregorich will also pitch. D.J. Coles will be behind the plate.

Dunedin

The Falcons will be led by third baseman Erik Turgeon. As a junior last season, Turgeon batted .388, scored 27 runs and had 34 RBIs with seven doubles. A solid defensive player as well, Turgeon has signed to play at the University of Connecticut. With Kyle Mills and Ryan McKenzie (catcher), the Falcons likely will have the best infield in the county.

Alan Mason will anchor the outfield. Kevin Garcia likely will be the team's ace on the mound.

East Lake

The Eagles could be a dark horse squad this season. While having an unusual season last year - not dominant - East Lake may have a good mix of solid experience and promising young players.

East Lake returns its top starters from last year, including lefty Brett Foley for his third season on the varsity. When not pitching, Foley plays first base. Shawn Kale, a sophomore right-handed pitcher, fared well pitching as a freshman.

Offensively, Dan Boucher, one of the top outfielders in the county, also returns. Boucher has signed with St. Leo University. Drew Tournier also will play outfield.

`We didn't lose any pitching from last year,` Eagles coach Lee Byers said. `We'll see how things fall into place.`

Indian Rocks Christian

After being one of the stronger private school baseball squads in the county in recent seasons, the Golden Eagles might have to pay for all of their success this season. IRC graduated nine players last season. So depleted are the baseball ranks that four eighth-graders and freshmen may start.

Of those returning are four- year starter Josh Lyons (.343, 13 RBIs, five doubles) and Alex Trent (.350, 10 RBIs).

Largo

First-year coach Paul Redman inherits a strong outfield. But if the Packers are to go anywhere in the postseason, Redman hopes his pitching can somehow equal the playing level of the outfield.

Clint Saenz and Jeff Taylor will be the top Packers outfielders. Griffith will be the Packers' top pitcher, followed by David Hunter, who will also play second. Jeff Taylor, another pitcher, will play outfield on his non-pitching days and is a talented hitter, as is Joe Jones, who will see outfield play as well. Chip Bodine will catch.

`Outfield, we will be very strong,` Redman said. `We're a little light on the pitcher.`

Palm Harbor

First-year coach Tony Ferriera hopes speed and pitching equal wins.

`We have to be aggressive,` Ferriera said.

The Hurricanes' top pitcher will be Andrew Moltz, who also plays first and third base. No 2 pitcher will be Jimmy Richter, who also is a shortstop. Jeff Ludlow also is expected to log significant innings for Palm Harbor.

Stephen Lynch anchors the outfield.

Seminole

Rob Francis takes over for Scott Miller as coach this year with big shoes to fill. Not only did Miller lead the county's dominant baseball program, in his first year the Warhawks won a state title and were deemed national champions by Baseball America. Francis has no illusions he can repeat Miller's initial season. But the Warhawks do have some solid players.

Seminole will have a strong pitching staff led by Shawn Keill and Adam Chappie. Both were significant in the Warhawks' appearance in the state semifinals last season. Both are left-handers. Ryan Reilly, a power pitcher, will be the No. 3 pitcher.

`You can never have enough pitching,` Francis said.

Offensively, left-handed hitter Nick Stanley will play several positions, including catcher, third and outfield.

If Seminole can get timely hitting, the Warhawks could return to the state baseball tournament.

Tarpon Springs

Last year, Dan Genna began his first season with the Spongers, hoping to right a ship that had not appeared in region play since 1998. Tarpon Springs not only had a winning season, the Spongers won their district.

`Last year we achieved our goal,` Genna said. `I hope that momentum carries us farther and we can make a playoff run.`

The Spongers have eight seniors to do that with, including Karl Midgett. The center fielder last year batted .450. First baseman Bobby Hartman and third baseman Chris Santucci each batted over .330 in 2004.

To go along with the solid hitting, the Spongers appear to have lively arms. Last season, Hartman, Andrew Leak and Kyle Midgett combined for a 2.47 ERA.

Still, Genna is not convinced he has one of the county's better teams.

`We'll have to outwork other teams,` Genna said.

IBC STATE CHAMPS- FALL 2004
THE TAMPA BAY RENEGADES ORGANIZATION WON THE IBC STATE FALL CHAMPIONSHIPS IN BOTH THE 13-U AND 12U DIVISION .IT WAS A GREAT DAY TO BE A RENEGADE AS BOTH TEAMS WON THEIR CHAMPIONSHIP GAMES ON ADJOINING FIELDS AT THE EDDIE C. MOORE COMPLEX.
BOTH TEAMS WENT UNDEFEATED IN THE TOURNAMENT.
THE 13U RENEGADES HOWEVER FELL BEHIND 11-3 IN THE SECOND INNING AGAINST THE TAMPA SPARTANS IN AN ELIMINATION GAME, BUT POUNDED THEIR WAY TO VICTORY WITH AN INCREDIBLE OFFENSIVE ASSAULT. THE BATS GOT RED HOT AS THE ENTIRE LINEUP HIT SAFELY IN THE LAST 3 INNINGS.TODD SHORTER CAME IN TO GET THE SAVE AND SHUT DOWN THE SPARTANS.THE COME FROM BEHIND VICTORY WAS ALL THE RENEGADES NEEDED TO GET THEM ON A ROLL AND INTO THE CHAMPIONSHIP GAME.

TODD METRODOME
TODD'S A TWIN?
TODD TAKES MOUND AT THE METRODOME
TODD SHORTER WON THE PITCHING SKILLS COMPETITION AT THE AAU NATIONAL TOURNAMENT POSTING THE ONLY PERFECT SCORE. FRIDAY NIGHT HE GOT INTRODUCED DURING PRE-GAME CEREMONIES OF THE TWINS / RED SOX GAME AT THE METRODOME AND GOT TO TAKE THE MOUND WITH THE TWINS STARTING PITCHER DURING THE SINGING OF THE NATIONAL ANTHEM. IT WAS TRULY A GREAT EXPERIENCE TO SEE TODD UP ON THE JUMBO-TRON SCREEN.
THE REST OF THE TEAM TOOK THE FIELD DURING THE TEAM PARADE AND GOT THEIR CHANCE ON THE JUMBO-TRON . IT WAS A FUN EVENING WITH THE RED SOX POUNDING OUT 13 HITS AND BEATING THE TWINS.

JUMBO-TRON
OH SAY CAN YOU SEE ME
Renegades Advance To Sudden Death Round
With a 6-3 win over the Middleton Colts (KY) the Renegades advance to the final 16 against The Carolina Angels. Kyle Griffith tripled with 2 runners on and drove in an additional run going 2 for 2 to lead the offense. Mario Labrador went 2 for 3. Daniel Torres got the win and Andre' Ortega the save.

2-1 LOSS IN OPENER A HEARTBREAKER
IT WAS A GREAT BASEBALL GAME THAT WENT DOWN TO THE WIRE BUT PERFORMANCE BASEBALL FROM VIRGINIA GOT A BLOOP FLY BALL HIT TO RIGHTFIELD JUST OUT OF KYLE GRIFFITH'S REACH TO DRIVE IN THE WINNING RUN IN THE BOTTOM OF THE 6TH INNING.
THE GAME WAS A PITCHER'S DUAL TO THE END WITH MARIO LABRADOR HOLDING VIRGINIA TO 1 RUN FOR 5 INNINGS .TODD SHORTER PITCHED THE FINAL INNING GIVING UP THE UNEARNED WINNING RUN.

THE RENEGADES PLAY 2 GAMES TOMMOROW, STARTING WITH THE IOWA PREDATOR'S FOLLOWED BY JACKSONVILLE'S GLORY BASEBALL.

MUDCATS END RENEGADE RUN @ IBC
THE RENEGADES UNDER ESTIMATED THE CAHABA MUDCATS AND WOUND UP PLAYING CATCH UP FOR 6 INNINGS. WITH THE GAME ON THE LINE DOWN 6-5,
KYLE PARRY AT 3RD AND KYLE GRIFFITH AT 2ND , RYAN HALLAM'S SUICIDE PINCH BUNT WAS CAUGHT IN THE AIR BY THE MUDCAT PITCHER WHO THEN FORCED PARRY OUT AT 3RD TO END THE GAME. IT WAS A GAME IN WHICH WE GAVE AWAY SOME RUNS WHICH WE NEVER OVERCAME.
THE LOSS TOOK ITS TOLL AS THE RENEGADES CAME OUT FLAT IN THE 2ND GAME AGAINST GLORY BASEBALL WHO OUT HIT THE RENEGADES TO A 7-4 WIN.
THE LOSS TO GLORY ELIMINATED THE SQUAD . GLORY AND THE MUDCATS ADVANCED TO THE MEDAL GAMES.
HOPEFULLY THE BOYS WILL REGAIN THEIR FOCUS FOR MINNESOTA.

GRIFFITH BRINGS OUT THE HAMMER
HAMMER BASEBALL AND THE RENEGADES WERE PLAYING A FLAWLESS DEFENSIVE GAME FOR 4 INNINGS. KYLE PARRY WALKED AND STOLE SECOND WITH 1 OUT IN THE BOTTOM OF THE 4TH ,AND KYLE GRIFFITH HIT A FIRST PITCH (280')BOMB OVER THE CENTERFIELD FENCE TO BREAK THE GAME OPEN. Renegades Win Pool w/ 4-4 Tie
IN THE FINAL POOL GAME OF THE IBC WORLD SERIES , GLORY BASEBALL FROM JACKSONVILLE AND THE RENEGADES PLAYED ANOTHER CLASSIC GAME, AND IT ENDED IN A TIE. IN THEIR FOURTH MEETING IN 2 YEARS THESE TEAMS HAVE ALWAYS PLAYED GAMES WITH OUTSTANDING DEFENSIVE PLAYS AND CLUTCH HITTING ON BOTH SIDES OF THE FIELD. THE RENEGADES ARE NOW 2-1-1 AGAINST GLORY BASEBALL, AND IF WE DON'T MEET UP WITH THEM IN THIS TOURNAMENT AGAIN CHANCES ARE WE WILL PLAY IN MINNESOTA AT THE AAU NATIONALS.
TODD SHORTER PITCHED A GOOD GAME BUT COULD NOT SHUT DOWN THEIR BATS.
THE RENEGADES HAD MEN AT THIRD TWICE LATE IN THE GAME , BUT A GREAT DEFENSIVE PLAYS BY GLORY DENIED THE SCORING OPPORTUNITIES. MARIO LABRADOR AND KYLE GRIFFITH EACH HAD 2 HITS AS WELL AS OUTSTANDING DIVING CATCHES TO END GLORY RALLIES.
WITH A 2-0-1 THE RENEGADES WON THE POOL AND ADVANCED AS THE 4TH SEED INTO THE CHAMPIONSHIP ROUND.

RENEGADES BEAT TEAM PUERTO RICO
IN THE SECOND IBC GAME THE RENEGADES BEAT TEAM PUERTO RICO 10-5.
A GAME IN WHICH THE RENEGADES PLAYED POORLY DEFENSIVELY AND PUERTO RICO TURNED IN SOME NICE GLOVEWORK, THE RENEGADES OFFENSE WAS TOO STRONG FOR TEAM PUERTO RICO. MARIO LABRADOR PITCHED OUTSTANDING IN MIDDLE RELIEF AND KYLE PARRY CAME IN FOR THE SAVE. PUERTO RICO COULD NOT STOP THE RENEGADES IN THE 3RD AND 4TH INNING. DANNY TORRES(2 FOR 3) AND MARIO LABRADOR HAD 2 RUN SINGLES AND TODD SHORTER AND MARIO EACH SCORED 2 RUNS TO LEAD THE OFFENSIVE ATTACK. KYLE PARRY ENDED PUERTO RICO'S BEST INNING BY CHASING DOWN A FLY BALL IN RIGHT CENTER FIELD AND GUNNING DOWN A RUNNER AT HOME PLATE.

RENEGADES WIN 1ST AT IBC WORLD SERIES
CLEARWATER'S 12U RENEGADES WON THEIR FIRST GAME AT THE IBC WORLD SERIES.

team slug-a-rama
SLUG-A-RAMA TOURNAMENT
The SLUG-A-RAMA Tournament in Aubourndale was a true test for our Renegades. The team won 4- straight games and wound up in the semi-final with the Central Florida Bomb Squad. The Renegades gave up 4 un-earned runs in the first 2 innings and could not overcome the deficit, losing 5-1 and settling for 4th place.
A come from behind 5-4 win against the Hammer Baseball Club on Friday night set the tone for the tourney. The bats came alive in the next game against the Orlando Rock and although a 9-3 lead turned into a marginal 9-8 victory, the Renegades won their pool.
The Rock became the opponent in the first round of elimination play,
a game which started at 8:50 pm on Saturday night. The Renegades pounded the Rock 11-3 in an offensive barrage which ended at 10:45 pm. With a Quarter -final game scheduled for 8:00 am sunday morning the Renegades headed for Winter Haven for a few hours of sleep.
The Sarasota Mariners ,always a tough opponent battled to the end in a 3-1 Renegade victory.
In the end , the lack of sleep showed in the semi-final against a rested Bomb Squad Team. However, The team did battle to the end and had opportunities to get back in the game but did not capitalize on its chances by stranding runners in scoring position.
