'94's Win PW Major Championship at Stars Thanksgiving Tournament
'94's Syracuse Stars continued their stellar play and rise as a team by going 6-0 over the weekend enroute to their third tournament championship of this early season. Lightning fast speed and exceptional special teams made quick work of the Kingston Predators (6-0), NJ Rockets (7-1), Cleveland Phantoms (5-0) and Greenwich AAA Blues (6-0). In the semis the Stars faced a tough test in the Westchester Express. The Stars came out and set a furious pace and quickly jumped out to a 2-0 first period lead on goals by Boo Nieves and Nick Gullo. The second period saw more of the same pace with Anthony Bird converted two breakaways and Connor Cannizzaro a tic-tac-toe power play passing play into a 5-0 lead. Finally, Nick Gullo score on a 55 foot blast and Nick Petrella on a beautifully executed passing play to finish one of the most complete games the team has played to date. Final score was 7-1.

In the champiosnhip game the Stars faced a big, quick and physical Philadelphila Little Flyer squad. First period again saw a furious pace with many chances for both sides. However, the scoreless tie was broken 1:22 into the second on a brillant individual effort by Nick Petrella. He turned a neutral zone 1-2 into a breakaway and scored to lift the Stars to a 1-0 lead. From here the Stars caught fire and rattled off the next 12 shots to turn the tied of the game. Finally at 3:35 Shawn Morrow score on a terrific play staking the Stars to a 2-0 lead. The Stars closed the scoring for the period and game at 14:10 of the second when Marc Cibelli converted a picture perfect 2-1 pass from Nick Papayanakos into a 3-0 lead. In the third the Stars played a tough stingy brand of defense (limiting the Little Flyers to 4 shots on goal) and held on to capture their third tournament championship of the season.

'94 Secure a Bid To the Renown Quebec Pee Wee Tournament
One of this years teams major objectives was realized on Wed of this week when the 2006-2207 '94 Pee Wee Major Stars were infored that the were selected to compete in the highest level of the prestigous Quebec Pee Wee International Tournament to be held in Feb in Quebec City.

This tournament brings 132 of the very best pee wee teams in the world together for a weeks worth of elite competition. "This is a once in a lifetime opportunity," stated Head Coach Steve Cibelli. "We're excited and honored to be representing our Association, State and USA Hockey at this event." "Kids have work very in the first three months to earn the right to participate," said Assistant Coach Mark Noffey. "Quebec was one of the kids 4 major goals for the year. It's just fantastic that it's been realized."

To date the Stars have complied a 31-1-1 record winning two major tournaments in the early stages of the season. Unlike many other teams in the US who play in leagues or are associated with programs that have automatic qualifying bids, the '94 Stars has to qualify outright by convincing the tournamnet directors that they were worthy of such a selction. Not an easy task when your consider that the tournament turns down over 150 teams each year.

"Our kids will have the time of their life in Quebec City, said Steve Cibelli. Cibelli further added, "this will be a great cultural and athletic experience.....all of us cannot wait to go."

'94's Win the 2006 PW Major Divison of the Prestigious Tim Horton International Tournament
The Stars '94's became only the third Syracuse Stars team ever to win a championship at the highly regarded Tim Horton International Tournament by defeating the Halton Hurricanes in the championship game in Hamilton, Ontario by a score of 2-1.

Playing all Canadian teams, mostly from the Alliance and SCTA, the Stars continued to show tremendous scoring balance and a stingy defense (posted 4 shutouts) in route to this major tournament championship. "This is a major achievement for the '94's and The Stars organization as a whole, said Head Coach Steve Cibelli." Last years '94 PW Minor team worked so hard to get to the championship game only to lose a heartbreaker to the Chicago Chill 1-0. This year, however, this group simply would not be denied. Commented coach Cibelli, "The level of commitment, togetherness and effort shown to this point by the 2006 '94's has been unbelievable." They're a tight group of kids, and they play and compete the same way." It's been a terrific start for this group."
