2007 National Tournament Results - Game Summaries
Opening the tournament the Stars faced the two time reining national champion Sabres of Shattuck St. Mary's; their first meeting since Shattuck defeated the Stars back in the 2005 national title game. Into the third period the Stars battled in a scoreless deadlock before Shattuck tallied to take the only lead the Sabres would need. The game would remain 0-1 until later in the period when Shattuck found the back of the net a second time. An empty net goal against the obstinate Stars rounded out the scoring. Final score, 0-3. Shattuck St. Mary’s went on to sweep the balance of the competition and capture a third consecutive national championship. The second game opponent was Belle Tire whom as Honeybaked the Stars had eliminated from three prior national championship tournaments. This year was Belle Tire's revenge as they took advantage of a Stars squad who had expended considerable effort the previous day. Despite the Stars continued goaltending heroics, and down only 1-2 midway through the contest, Belle Tire’s persistent pressure took its toll on the tiring Stars. Final score, 1-4. Belle Tire lost in overtime to Shattuck St. Mary's in the semifinals. The loss to Belle Tire combined with a 1-1 tie between the Washington Pride and Assabet Valley found the Stars entering their third game against the Pride playing only for pride. The Stars subsisted through a scoreless first period and took its first lead of the tournament on a goal midway into the second. However, the Pride came back with a shorthanded equalizer and then took the lead in the last minute of the period on a power play tally. The third period brought flurries of action in both ends as the Stars gained some momentum, yet it was the Pride who scored the lone goal of the period. Final score, 1-3. Washington lost in the semifinals in a rematch with Assabet Valley. Winterlude Showcase Results
