August Practice Ice Scheduled

The practice schedule as we currently have it arranged is now posted to the calendar and on the Practices link. Have a look......

Note:  I am trying to make arrangements to have practices scheduled a bit later than 5 pm to accommodate our out of town team mates.

Saturday, July 18
Team Meeting/Picnic

Our first event for parents and players is scheduled for Saturday, August 1 (with a rain date of August 2). We will meet at Side Cut Metropark in Maumee for a picnic, cookout (and off-ice conditioning for players). This is a social event and mixer for families to get to know one another. Tentatively, we are scheduling for 2-5 pm

Bring a dish to pass, plates/utensils and drinks for your family. Dogs-n-Burgs will be provided.

Please RSVP to Coach Schultz by July 30 or ASAP (EIEIO!) with number in family attending.

Opportunity to scrimmage AAA Cleveland Jr. Lumberjacks

Very tentative opportunity.....the Cleveland Jr. Lumberjacks (AAA 98 team) are looking to schedule a couple game "road trip" with us to get some pre-season skating in.

They are offering two games (one morning then early afternoon) in Cleveland on Saturday, September 5. Our cost is the trip over and back--and some sweaty hockey gear.

This is similar to our start from last season, when we trekked down to Columbus and played the AAA Jr. Bluejackets. Not only does this give our team an opportunity to skate against a quality opponent; but, also will be a good pre-season test to see where we, as a team, need to grow and focus our efforts to improve.

I will keep you posted with more information regarding this opportunity via email "tree."

Did you know? Dead Ice for Hockey Players

For our age bracket, Tam-O-Shanter provides "Dead Ice" sessions for hockey play. There is nothing formal about the times, just come with your gear and get on the ice to do some personal work, or even get involved in a pick up game. The cost is $5 per session (and our age bracket sessions are currently listed on M and W, 2:00-2:50 pm).

Info can be found at the Facilities Schedule (Rink 2):

Check Our Team Ranking
As the season gets started, check to see how we rank. For now, you can see where the team ended last season (a very respectable position); and, where many of our opponents ended up in the rankings. Enjoy!

Off-Ice Team Development

Parents, we need your commitment to one or more of the following committees/positions to make this season successful:

Fundraising and Fundraising Committee

Parents, any ideas you have are welcome as we begin thinking about the upcoming season. "Wild" ideas are sometimes just the thing we need to have a fundraising option that won't be copied by others. Unique and fun are keys to helping our team.

Celebrations Committee

Responsible for all things fun for our team (families included!). This group will make sure the kids have a snack after games, take time to celebrate successes and growth and plan parties for the team to build off-ice friendships and connections.

Equipment Manager:

Responsible for a "packet of extras" we take to games and tournaments when we're playing (or practicing). Kids are kids....they'll forget some piece of equipment some time this season; which makes the equipment manager's job an important one to keep our team functioning efficiently on the ice. Also, the Equipment Manager directs scoring/time clock running. Jim will ask parents to take turns (or a rotation) scoring or running the clock. It's easy and gives you a bird's-eye-view of the game.

Public Relations Committee/Manager

Responsible for sharing the good news about our team with local media, our sponsors and through our team newsletter. Also, this committee works with our Fundraising Committee to stay connected to our sponsors and build good relations for our team.

Ice Manager:  Eric Roberts

Responsible for communication with other teams within our league to schedule ice times/scrimmages and games. Also responsible for scheduling our team in tournaments and keeping track of scoresheets. (The Ice Manager works closely with the coaches to keep things running smoothly on the ice).

Budget Manager

Responsible for team accounting and assisting coaches and Ice Manager with costing, fundraising and other expenditures. In many ways, this person is the "keeper of the checkbook" for our team.

Contact me (robert.schultz@bex.net) directly to volunteer; or, with questions you might have. To do our best as a team, we need your help in handling off-ice activities. The coaches have major responsibilities with on-ice activities. You need to help us by getting involved in off-ice activities that support our efforts.
