TRAVEL PROGRAM

TRAVEL- This program is for the experienced or established hockey player who has attained the skills necessary to compete at a higher level. Most of these players started in the In-House program. At this level of play, the coaching emphasis is placed on the advanced instruction of:

  • power skating
  • puck and stick handling
  • passing
  • shooting
  • teamwork

SYHC Teams play in the Cleveland Suburban Hockey League (CSHL). The league has teams in various Cleveland area suburbs, in addition to teams located in Kent, Fremont, Columbus and Canton. Teams are broken down based on the following divisions, as determined by USA Hockey:

  • Mites (8 yrs. old and under)
  • Squirts (9 and 10 yrs. old)
  • Pee Wees (11 and 12 yrs. old)
  • Bantams (13 and 14 yrs. old)

At each division, teams are classified based on the skill level attained (B, A, AA) and play teams from other organizations at the same level. The criteria for the classifications are (as defined by the CSHL):

  • AA: The hockey at this level is travel hockey that is highly competitive.
  • A: The hockey at this classification is travel hockey that is less competitive and more recreational in nature.
  • B: The hockey at this level is for first or second year players in a division. It is travel hockey which is instructional and recreational with less emphasis on competition.
