Commonly Asked Questions About Flag Football!
When are games played?
- Games are played on Saturdays.
- The first game of the day usually starts at 9:00 am and the last game usually begins around 11:30 am. (Start early-end early)
- Schedule will be determined at the conclusion of registrations.
- SYFFL is working with SYSL and STOYAC/Pop Warner to TRY to have scheduled coincide so children who choose to play multiple sports can do so! We will do our best! No Guarantees!
How long are games?
- Between 50 minutes to an hour. There are no over time games during the regular season.
When are cancelled games re-scheduled (i.e. rain-outs)?
- Rain-outs are generally moved up to the afternoon or made up on the following day weather pending, otherwise they are resheduled on the following Sunday. Either way wait until your coach let's you know when the game is re-scheduled. Never assume!
- Rescheduled games can also be made up by having two games palyed on the same day. These determinations are made by the board of directors based on referee availability, how many rain dates are back logged & how many make-up games need to be played and how many weeks are left in the season. The later in the season means there are less days left to make up games.
When are practices?
- Practices are optional. If a coach feel's his/her team needs a practice, they can schedule one at their own discretion. Most coaches try to schedule 2-3 practices before the season begins. Once the season starts the teams generally have time to warm-up before game time.
When does the season begin?
- Saturday September 5th, 2009
Is there a League Champion?
- Yes! The regular season has teams playing head to head. At seasons end all participating teams in the Junior & Senior division(s) play on a bracketed tournament based on where they finished in the standings at seasons end. The Peewee division has a Tournament Champion Sieries where all four teams participate in a playoff which consiststs if two semi-final games, the winners face off in a championship game and the loosers play a consolation game. The peewee brackets are selected randomly by lottery.
Are the coaches/officials qualified?
- All of our coaches/officials are volunteers! Most of our coaches/officials have some experience in past seasons, but we usually need to "beg" for voluteer each year! If you can coach please voluteer as a coach or an assistant coach by checking the appropriate box during the on-line registrations or drop me an e-mail at syffl@comcast.net it would be appreciated. It is fun, rewarding and easy!
- If you have a problem with a coach/official being abusive or improper in any way contact a member of the SYFFL BOD.
- If you have a problem with a coaches coaching method, do not criticize him/her, volunteer to assist him/her. If you criticize a coach on their method of coaching then it is easy to assume that you must be an expert, and if you are an expert then you should not waist your time on the sidelines as a spectator. We need expert volunteers, coaches and assistant coaches! In a nut shell if you are not part of the solution, you are part of the problem! Step up and be a volunteer!
- All of our coaches/officials go through a CORI check.
- All SYFFL coaches go through a coaching clinic! (Just an hour!)
Who officiates the games?
- All of our officials are either present players in the Senior Divisions or former players and are trained & payed by the SYFFL!
- Most of the officials are under age 18
- No official will be allowed to officiate a game in a league that they currntly play in

It is the desire of the Stoughton Youth Flag Football League (SYFFL) to provide Coaches (all of which are volunteers) and officials who guide the children in the right direction, but allow the children to make their own decisions on the playing field.
