Got to have TEAMWORK!
Friday, June 2
Quote for the week...
May 15-21, 2006 "Friendship... is not something you learn in school. But if you haven't learned the meaning of friendship, you really haven't learned anything."
~Muhammad Ali~

May 08-14, 2006 "Nobody's a natural. You work hard to get good and then work to get better. It's hard to stay on top."
~Paul Coffey~

May 01-07, 2006 "Getting what you go after is success; but liking it while you are getting it is happiness."
~Bertha Damon~

April 24-30, 2006 "Success is where preparation and opportunity meet."
~Bobby Unser~

April 17-23, 2006 "You have to recognize when the right place and the right time fuse and take advantage of that opportunity. There are plenty of opportunities out there. You can't sit back and wait.
~Ellen Metcalf~

April 10-16, 2006 "The way a team plays as a whole determines its success. You may have the greatest bunch of individual stars in the world, but if they don't play together, the club wont be worth a dime."
~Babe ruth~

April 3-9, 2006 "Don't ever let any of the stuff that happens (or doesn't happen) affect how hard you play. You will find that the only thing that counts is whether or not you feel good about how you did - if you wait for other's approval or accolades, you are missing the real meaning of being a competitor."

March 27-April 2, 2006 "I am a member of a team, and I rely on the team, I defer to it and sacrifice for it, because the team, not the individual, is the ultimate champion."
~Mia Hamm~

March 20-26,2006 "I don't believe there is such a thing as a 'born' soccer player. Perhaps you are born with certain skills and talents, but quite frankly it seems
impossible to me that one is actually born to be an ace soccer player."

March 13-19, 2006 "Good teams become great ones when the members trust each other enough to surrender the me for the we."
~Phil Jackson~

March 6-12,2006 "Self-trust is the first secret of success."
~Ralph Waldo Emerson~

February 27-March 5,2006 "The goalkeeper is the jewel in the crown and getting at him
should be almost impossible. It's the biggest sin in soccer to make him do any work." ~George Graham~

GiRlS....Things you should be doing every day to IMPROVE your moves......
soccer ball
You don't have to do everything everyday but you should be doing SOMETHING the coach's teach you and you will see improvement.

Juggle Or Juggling: A training technique to teach touch & ball control, where any part of the body except the arms is used to strike the ball upward & the player sees how many times he can "juggle" it before it hits the ground. Try not to use your thighs.

Pullback: A pullback is executed by placing the bottom of the foot on the ball, rolling it (or flicking it) backward, and turning with it. It is a way to quickly reverse direction.

Dribbling: A player can dribble with any part of the foot. "Control dribbling" is usually with the inside or outside of the foot. "Speed dribbling" is often with the top of the foot (i.e., the "laces").

Scissors: The spectacular kick you see in photographs where the kicker leaps into the air, falls backward & kicks the ball over his head. Do not teach this. If any other players are near, it is considered dangerous play & a foul can be called.

Matthews:Sir Stanley Matthews move... This is a very effective move, especially when the enemy is patiently containing you. To successfully execute the Matthews move, you need to attack the supporting foot of the enemy defender. Initially, the attacker pushes the ball in, towards the free leg of the defender. The he suddenly cuts to the outside. This leaves the defender helpless as the ball rolls past his supporting foot.

Check out and watch the video.

Step Over: If you are going at an opponent, you want to deceive her a little bit make her think we are going left, we're gonna go right. How do we do that? Dip the shoulder stepping over the ball past her. Pratice and then once you feel you have it try going at it full-speed here so it's one touch, dip and go.

Check out and watch the video.

FOR ALL OF OUR AWESOME GOALIES... Punting: The key to consistent punting is to face the target "square" & a consistent drop. Young goalkeepers should hold the ball with 2 hands, fully extend the arms & drop the ball from waist height. This will result in a consistent drop. If punts are too low (not enough height) it means the ball is being contacted too low. If too much height & not enough distance, it is being contacted too high. The goalkeeper has six seconds after picking up the ball to punt it or release it. She is allowed to pick it up, run with it and then punt, throw it, or drop it and dribble or kick it. However, she cannot touch it with her hands outside the "Penalty Box" and once she drops it she can't touch it again with her hands until an opponent has touched it.
