Skokie Youth Sports: FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions
Q: How do we know if we are rained out?
A: In the event of inclement weather, please call the Skokie Park District Weather Hotline at 847-674-1500, ext 2196. The hotline is updated at approximately 4 pm on the weekdays and 12 noon on the weekends. If rains occur after 4 pm M-F or before 12 noon on the weekends, your managers will contact you.

Q: What if I register after the deadline?
A: All registrations received after their divisions' deadlines are put on a waiting list. We make every effort to place late registrants onto a team, but we cannot make any guarantees. The best way to ensure a player's spot is to register early. Note: A late fee of $10 applies to all registrations taken after the registration deadline.
Q: On which days will teams practice and play games?
A: Games can be scheduled for any day of the week. There is no set schedule where a team plays the same day each week. Because of limited time slots and available fields, it is realistic to expect each team to be scheduled for at least 1 or 2 games on a Friday night and/or Saturday afternoon. Practice days and times are scheduled according to the availability of our team's volunteer coaching staff.
While most teams play an average of two games per week during the regular season, spring weather can certainly influence that number.
Practice for all leagues begins the week of April 5. Regular season play begins on April 24 for Pony, American, and National leagues. Opening Day is May 1 for Instructional and Central Leagues. The American, National, Central, and Instructional League seasons conclude with Skokie Youth Baseball's annual Smith Weekend at Oakton Park, June 16-18. Pony League continues play further into the summer.
Q:What equipment does my player need to bring to practice?
A:All our players need to bring are their baseball and softball mitts and baseball shoes (optional for younger players). Skokie Youth provides all the rest of the equipment, including batting helmets, bats, catchers mitts, and even the balls.
