SWU Juventus 93's Win U14 Provincial Championship!!

SWU Juventus 93's captured the Provincial U14 gold medal in one of the most anticipated and exciting games in team history by defeating their longtime rival Sherwood Park Rangers by a score of 2-1!  Hannah scored the winning goal with time running out in the second half of sudden death overtime to send the team to their first Nationals appearance.

The Rangers opened the scoring in the first half with a penalty kick goal.  However, SWU Juventus responded when Alessandra scored a penalty kick goal midway in the second half.  The teams exchanged chances in this exciting match, and Megan S almost won the game in regulation time on a breakaway, but was thwarted by a determined Rangers goalie.

This match was long anticipated as both teams rolled through the opposition in their respective pools, putting them on a collision course for the gold medal game.  These two teams were a re-match of two previous provincial finals appearances.  Both previous matches had been won by the Rangers, but on this day SWU Juventus was not to be denied.  With the clock running down and the prospect of penalty kicks looming large to decide the outcome of the match, Hannah charged up into the middle, pounced on a loose ball and unleashed a 20 yard shot that found the upper right corner of the goal.  Players, coaches and parents erupted in celebration at the exciting climax to this intense and hard fought game.

Congratulations to the SWU Juventus 93 players and coaches, and best of luck at Nationals!

SWU Juventus 93's Impress at Nationals!

Alberta 9    NWT 0

Alberta 0    Ontario 2

Alberta 3    Newfoundland 0

Bingo Fundraiser Survey

Our team has been approached by another group that wants to jointly staff a new bingo facility for 5 times per year, 7 hours per night. The total commitment is 18 people per night, of which we would tentatively supply 9 people, and the other team would supply 9 people. Total revenues per night are estimated to be approximately $4000, of which we would therefore receive half. This idea is just at the discussion stage currently, but we want to see if the parent group supports this concept before we move forward with further discussions.

SWU Juventus Wins U-14 Gold at KYSA Cup!!

    Trophy
Blaze finds silver lining in loss
    by Bart Cummins

Giving up the winner in overtime always hurts — particularly when it’s on home turf at a tournament such as the Kamloops Youth Soccer Association Cup.

But the losing coach said it was a good tuneup for bigger games ahead.

“I think when you lose 1-0 on a golden goal with a few chances of winning, that says you played really well,” said Scott Huyghebaert, head coach of the Kamloops Blaze under-14A girls, on Monday. “When you lose a tough one it always leaves you with something you don’t want to repeat.”

Huyghebaert’s team had just lost the KYSA Cup’s U14 girls tournament final 1-0 to Calgary Juventus, a team that doubled the Blaze 4-2 in the round-robin.

Kamloops finished the weekend 2-2 despite outscoring the opposition 8-5. Calgary went 4-0 and scored 12 times while giving up four goals.

Sarah Beaulieu won the game for the visitors, converting a cross off a corner kick three minutes into the extra period. It was her third goal of the tourney and biggest to date of her soccer career.

“It’s cool to be the hero of the team,” Beaulieu said. “I’ve never done something big for the team.”

The curse of not converting crosses off corner kicks finally ended yesterday, the inside midfielder added.

“Now I know I can put them in. Before I was never able to put them in. I struggled with that,” Beaulieu said.

Calgary goalkeepers Sarah Dilling and Sam Pekarchuk shared the shutout, with Pekarchuk playing the second half and OT. Game MVP Breanna Frasca minded the Kamloops net.

“This team was probably the best team in Calgary in our age group,” Huyghebaert continued. “If we advance to nationals, we’ll probably see this team.”

    SWU Juventus win Silver Medal!

    Trophy
Congratulations to SWU Juventus for winning the silver medal in the U14 Premiere Tier 1 indoor soccer championships. Juventus played well against a determined Sherwood Park team in the finals and lost 2-1. Congratulations team on a job well done and best of luck in the outdoor season!

I am a member of a team, and I rely on the team, I defer to it and sacrifice for it, because the team, not the individual, is the ultimate champion.
