Congratulations to our 9-10 year old Boys Mastic Tournament Team for winning the Tournament! It was a long weekend of baseball but our guys managed to win the Championship Game with an exciting come from behind victory. The boys did it the hard way by losing their first game on Saturday morning to a tough Mastic Team, 8-7. With the loss, the boys would have to win five games in a row to be champions. Our Team regrouped and won their next game against Patchogue-Medford (Red), 16-6. In the third Saturday game, our guys beat Bellport, 17-6. That set the team up for a marathon Sunday. The boys picked up Sunday morning where they left off Saturday afternoon, scoring four runs in the first inning of Sunday's Game 1 and beating Patchogue-Medford (Black) in a well played game, 7-1. The boys then had to face that tough Mastic Team they had lost to on Saturday. Down 5-0 going to the fourth inning, the boys scored five runs to tie the game. They scored another eight runs in the sixth to secure a 13-5 victory. That set the stage for the Championship Game, the boys' sixth game of the weekend. Our guys were behind most of the game and were down 8-6 going to the bottom of the sixth, but the come back kids weren't done yet. With some timely hitting and heads up base running, our guys scored 3, with the last run coming with two outs, to clinch the Tournament Championship Game, 9-8. It was truly a team effort with everybody contributing on offense and defense throughout the entire Tournament. Great job, boys! The coaches would like to thank the parents and grandparents for hanging with us through the weekend and for the loudest cheering section we've heard in a long time. Our thanks to the Mastic Sports Club for sponsoring the Tournament.

The 11-12 Mastic all-stars won their first game against Flanders.  They then had to face 2 teams that didn't put teams into the Williamsport Tournament, in Bellport and Patchogue.  They put up a valient effort in both games, but came out on the losing end in each.  Hopefully they all had fun and I know they ate well because the parents cooked a feast of steak, hamburgers and other assorted delights between games.  Thanks again to everyone who participated.

Our 9-10 Williamsport team played a semi-final against Southampton on Saturday.  It was a hard fought game, but unfortunately, we lost 5-3.  The 9-10s had a great tournament, finishing 3rd in the district, with a 4-2 record.  This was our last Williamsport team still in the tournament.  We want to thank all the coaches, volunteers, parents and players who participated in this tournament.

Unfortunately, both our 11-12 girls and our 11-12 boys were knocked out of the Williamsport tournament this week.  They all played their hearts out and hopefully enjoyed the experience of tournament ball.  Thanks to the coaches, players and parents who were involved.

On a happier note, our 9-10 boys beat Bellport 8-7 Friday night at Defense Hill.  The game wasn't decided until the bottom of the sixth inning when we scored the winning run on a walk-off walk with the bases loaded.  The next game will be Tuesday at 5:45 at Defense Hill against Patchogue.

The 9-10 girls will also be playing Tuesday at 5:45 at Fireman's field.  It will be their first game and we wish them luck.

Tuesday night our 11-12 Williamsport team lost a heartbreaker to a good North Shore National team, 12-11.  We were leading 11-9 in the bottom of the sixth when the NS bats came alive and scored the winning run with 2 outs.  Its only our first loss and we are playing North Fork on Thursday at 5:45 at their Southold field.

Monday night the 9-10 Williamsport boys beat North Shore National 12-8.  It was truly a team effort.  Zach White threw a shutout through 4 innings until he reached his pitch count maximum.  Matt Moran and Tom Brady pitched the last 2 innings to preserve the win.  It seemed that everyone contributed to the run total that was started when Chris Sheehan led off the game with a bunt single to totaly surprise the other team.  Their next game will be Wed., July 1, at North Shore American at 5:45.

ON SATURDAY WE HAD OUR FIRST 2 WILLIAMSPORT TOURNAMENT GAMES.  THE 11-12 GIRLS LOST TO PATCHOGUE, BUT PLAYED VALIANTLY, DESPITE MISSING 3 OF THEIR TOP PLAYERS WHO WERE AWAY.  THEIR NEXT GAME WILL MOST LIKELY BE PLAYED THIS THURSDAY.  AS OF YET THEIR OPPONENT AND FIELD HAS NOT BEEN DETERMINED.

THE 11-12 BOYS SQUEAKED OUT A 2-1 VICTORY AGAINST HAMPTON BAYS, IN WHAT PROVED TO BE AN EXCITING PITCHER'S DUEL.  BOTH THE HAMPTON BAYS PITCHER AND SHOREHAM'S ZACH PARILLA PITCHED GREAT GAMES.  IT WAS TIED 1-1 UNTIL THE BOTTOM OF THE FIFTH INNING, WHEN DEVIN MINEO (MINCO) DROVE IN JEFF BURKHARDT FROM THIRD ON A FIELDER'S CHOICE, MAKING THE SCORE 2-1.  DEVIN THEN CAME IN TO PITCH THE TOP OF THE SIXTH.  AFTER GIVING UP A LEAD OFF DOUBLE TO HB'S #4 HITTER, HE STRUCK OUT THE NEXT 2 BATTERS, WALKED THE NEXT BATTER AND DRAMATICALLY STRUCK OUT THEIR NEXT BATTER TO PRESERVE THE WIN.  IT WAS AN EXCITING GAME AND BOTH TEAMS PLAYED WELL.  THEIR NEXT GAME IS TUESDAY AGAINST THE ALWAYS TOUGH NORTH SHORE NATIONAL TEAM, AT THE NS COMPLEX AT 5:45
