JUNIOR OLYMPIC RELAY INFORMATION
June 30 Update on Club Relays:
Mike Tchoukaleff, AAU National Event Coordinator, was kind enough to call me and clarify further the "club" relay. A club relay will consist of 4 swimmers in the same age group from the same club. Mike was not available to clarify this last week due to some family health problems. Please keep Mike's family in your prayers.
June 20 New procedure for Mixed Relays:
Todd Proa assured me that anyone who wishes to be on a mixed relay will have a chance to turn their name in to the Meet Director. The Meet Director will have a committee that will assign ALL the mixed relays. They do not want a repeat of a few nasty isolated incidences in the past where a swimmer on a mixed relay met the others on that mixed relay and "cried" to his/her coach (or whoever) who then took it upon himself to get him/her on another with no regard to the 3 who thought that they were ready to roll. This left 3 heartbroken spurned "team"mates who weren't able to compete for fun. IF THIS HAPPENS OR SOMEONE IS TRYING TO DO SOME LAST MINUTE TAMPERING PLEASE TELL THE MEET DIRECTOR/STARTER IMMEDIATELY. IF YOU TELL THEM BEFORE THE EVENT STARTS THEY CAN DEAL PROACTIVELY WHILE SOMETHING CAN STILL BE RESOLVED! ONCE YOU ARE ASSIGNED TO A MIXED RELAY YOU MAY NOT SWITCH!!!!! ---- AT LEAST NOT WITHOUT THE MEET DIRECTOR DOING SO. ONCE ASSIGNED TO A RELAY YOU ARE INELIGIBLE FOR ANOTHER UNLESS THE MEET DIRECTOR DOES THE SWITCHING!!!!! LETS MAKE SURE THAT OUR SWIMMERS/PARENTS/COACHES ARE INFORMED THIS YEAR.
If things go as Todd promises/proposes we may not have to worry about needing a coach to watch out for our kids with these relays. The most important thing to remember for those going is to make sure you check this out ASAP after your arrival so you can get your swimmers registered for the relays and know how to find out how/when/where the pairings will be made known.
