Spring 2011 SMSC Meeting was held Sunday, March 20 at the Sikeston YMCA. Here is a quick "snapshot" of the important points:
There will be 3 SMSC Official's Training Clinics: April 30th in Sikeston at YMCA, May 7th in Farmington at Civic Center and May 14th in Poplar Bluff, location TBA. All 3 start at 9 am.
If you plan to host a "mini-meet" this summer you must have your proposed date, location and event list approved on or before April 17th. Remember: you must be able to offer each swimmer at least 5 age/distance appropriate events. As of now the Gators plan to host one on Wed July 13th-open to all.
The AAU website offers a free course designed to help coaches. From the home page of www.aausports.org click on the "PCA Coaches Test". At the meeting it was reported that all AAU Non-Athlete Members must take this free course. It may not be a requirement--still waiting confirmation. It is a good idea for all the coaches and team-attached non-athletes complete this course prior to the start of the summer league season.

A MESSAGE FROM THE OLD WEBMASTER:
Please bite the bullet and get to work on your Meet Manager files and Meet invitations. Meet Manager is a pain to work with but if you "attack it" and get it over with it isn't so bad. Click on the menu bar for some very good instructions on the basics of Meet and Team Manager. It is very importatn to keep file types straight. Before the meet, Rosemary needs a "Meet Event Export" from Meet Manager. After the meet, Rosemary will need a "Full Meet Backup". Please also submit your meet invitations in MS Word or RTF format.
About once a year, and early in the year, we have a team that does not post thier event files, while other teams are struggling with the process of generating their entries and it creates a vicious circle: If the event file isn't posted, the team can't do entries. Then they are delayed in sending the entries back in. This results in late nights, high stress, and mistakes!
Be tough. Work up your computer files and e-mail them to Rosemary and John
OFFICIALS TRAINING
TheOzark USA officials commitee offers occasional training sessions in the St. Louis area. Here is the link to their website: http://www.ozarkswimming.org/officials.htm.
However, these sessions are for USA officials, and AAU officials must contact them before attending as there are differing certification requirements. SMSC parents are discouraged from seeking a USA certification- as this requires training at 5 sessions at USA meets only (our meets do not count!). AAU certification does not have the apprenticeship requirement and will qualify you to work SMSC swim meets. Unless you have a year-round USA swimmer do not seek USA certification.
If you plan to attend a USA clinic E-mail Mike Tchoukaleff (miketch@piasanet.com) and/or Karen Smiley (karensmiley@sbcglobal.net) and tell them you are seeking AAU certification. Technically, this is a USA clinic and they may not have the proper forms unless they know you are coming!
