Football is like life - it requires perseverance, self-denial, hard work, sacrifice, dedication and respect for authority. ~ Vince Lombardi
Pop Warner Mandatory Background Checks
Pop Warner programs nationwide will be required to annually conduct a background check of: Coaches, Board of Officers and any other persons, volunteers or hired workers, who provide regular service to the league and/or have repetitive access to, or contact with, players and/or cheer participants. The purpose of these background checks is, first and foremost, to protect the children.
New Safety Procedues: These drills and strethces are **NOT** permitted for safety reasons.
Bull Ring: One player is placed in a circle of players and given the ball.
Legs Lift: A player lays on his back and raises his legs about six inches off the ground for a couple of seconds.
Neck Rolls: A player lays on his backside and places his hands on his facemask, he would then spin around facing the ground without ever removing his hands from his facemask. These new rules are in place to prevent serious bodily injury to the children in Pop Warner Football. Southwest will enforce these rules. All coaches will be obligated to adhere to these changes.
Our youth football program is comprised of five divisions ranging from 6 to 13 years, of both boys and girls. Our Flag teams, 6 and 7 year olds, along with our Mitey Mite teams , 8 and 9 year olds, were formed to help our organization build a stronger foundation, for the future of our older divisions.
This team of young players will be introduced to the basic fundamentals of tackle football, in a fun, safe and non-competitive environment. Players from all levels can expect to work hard and do their best. You can look forward to your child learning self-discipline, dedication and loving the game of football!
Uniform Requirements: The registration fee covers: game jersey and pop warner patch.
Additional items needed: Helmet (black), Shoulder Pads, Game pants, game socks, three mouth pieces (orange or yellow color) and molded rubber cleats.
Did you know that Pop Warner football is safer than soccer? Pop Warner football has 12% fewer injuries among 5-15 year olds than organized soccer in the same age range! (U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, NEISS).
Based on requests from many MM coaches, here is a graphical example of the new MM 5 down linemen rule. MM must have 5 down linemen in a three or four point stance in the interior linemen box which is Tight End to Tight End. You can line the defensive linemen up any where along the line of scrimmage but there can not be more than 5. The second line of defenders, your LB's, Safeties and Cornerbacks must be at least 4 yds off the ball.
