When will our head coach contact us?  Prior to August 1st

How long does the season last?
3 1/2 months (includes August as a preparation month) The season opens on the first weekday of August to begin conditioning of the participants.  The first game of the season is typically the first Saturday of September and could continue into November.

How many days/hours do the players practice?
3 or 4 days a week during August (10 hours per week) After the Labor Day holiday, it goes down to 2 or 3 days a week (6 hours per week).

Where are practices held?
Dick Nichols District Park, Small Middle School (dependent upon which division your child is in)

How many games will be played?
8 and 10, additional games will be played if the team makes playoffs for Jr. Pee Wee levels and above (Flag, Tiny-Mite & Mitey-Mite teams are excluded from the play-offs) .

When and where are games played?  All games are on Saturdays.  Half of the games will be played at our Home Field at Bowie High School.  The remaining games will be held in Austin or on the outskirts of Austin, such as Taylor, Round Rock, Lago Vista, Elgin, Lockhart etc.

Who does the scheduling of the games?
Central TX Pop Warner Board creates all game schedules.

When can we anticipate receiving our game schedule? Parents can anticipate receiving a game schedule at the end of August or the first week of September.

Is there a refund policy if my player changes his mind?
Dependent upon time of request (see our Welcome Page for a breakdown).

How much volunteering is expected from parents?
Each player's family is required to assist as needed.   Additionally, parents are expected to assist during game days at home with chain gang duty, down markers and MPR sheet (mandatory play roster) game field clean up duty.

Why must parents participate so much?
SWAPW is run exclusively by volunteers.  All parents are expected to help out in some capacity.

Is it mandatory to fundraise?
No, but we encourage our parents to assist with our fundraiser(s) as this is where the league makes most of its money to function for the season.

Who can I talk to if I have a question about football? League President David Mester swa.dawgs@gmail.com

Who can I talk to if I have a question about Cheer?  Vice-President Malia Cavazos swaustincheer@gmail.com

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
There will be MANY opportunities for you to help out during the season.
We will need help with chains during home games and play counting. Please make sure you check with your child after EVERY practice to see if information (such as maps to games and/or last minute announcements, changes and reminders) were passed out to them. This will happen all the time, so please check with them everyday!

Practices - Your Coach or Team Mom will be providing you with information at practices. In case of rain-outs and rescheduled dates and times, you will be notified. If you do not have an answering machine and are not home when it appears a practice may be canceled, please call your head coach or team mom for clarification or our Bulldawg website or Hotline (Ph# will be distributed soon). It is also important to send your player with plenty of water and with all necessary practice gear.

PLEASE HELP US KEEP ALL PRACTICE AREAS CLEAN BY PICKING UP YOUR TRASH AFTER PRACTICE AND DISPOSING IT IN PROPER RECEPTACLES!

Football Uniforms - Uniforms for the players (jersey) will be available near the end of August.

Official Football Weight Certification - Every tackle participant will be required to be weight certified by Central Texas Pop Warner. This weigh-in will occur sometime during the month of August (date will be provided to each league by CTPW) dates will be passed on parents asap once we received this information. You will be notified by your head coach or team mom with the date and time for certification. This only takes a little while and it is VERY IMPORTANT that your child attends. Make-up certifications may require you to travel out of the Austin area and are often difficult to get your child's information transferred back. Please make every effort possible to attend the scheduled weight certification. Should your child not pass weigh-in certification or be unable to attend than your child will not be allowed to participate in the upcoming season.

Weigh-In certification prior to each game - You will be expected to have your player to the game at least one hour before the game is scheduled to start, for warm-ups and weigh-in (for tackle only) in front of the other team, should your child not meet the weight or exceed the weight requirement for his division he will not be able to participate in the game for that week. FOR TACKLE FOOTBALL, EVERY PLAYER HAS TO BE WEIGHED-IN PRIOR TO THE GAME. If your child misses weigh-in, they will not be allowed to play in accordance with the Central Texas Pop Warner League rules. It is essential to let your head coach know when your child will not be attending a game. Should they miss a game and Absentee form must be submitted to your Head Coach by the following Wednesday, Absentee forms can be downloaded from our website under our Forms section.

Fundraisers - SWAPW will announce it's major fundraiser prior to the start of Training Camp/August 1st.

Team Pictures - Team and individual player pictures are scheduled during the season. Your team mom or head coach will pass out the order forms to you as soon as they are available which will prior to August 1st. It takes several weeks for the pictures to come back in but you will be required to pay for the pictures when you order them.

Dear Southwest Austin Pop Warner families:

As we head into the 2008 season of Southwest Austin Pop Warner Football and Cheer, we would like to welcome you and personally invite you to get involved volunteering in any way possible. Our program is only as successful as its volunteers - and that means YOU! We cannot think of a better way to spend quality time with your children, and getting to know their friends and parents in the process. The volunteer opportunities are numerous, and the rewards are even greater. As SWAPW heads into its 8th year we are so grateful for the many friends we have made through the Pop Warner program and in our community. We are proud to be a part of the SW Austin community and look forward to another great season!

One of our main goals is to continue to provide an environment that stresses the importance of academic achievement along with athletic excellence, and to teach our children the value of good sportsmanship, not only through our words, but by our own actions. In summary, Southwest Austin Pop Warner aims to provide a quality youth sports program, while providing each child with a fun, enriching experience, creating memories that will last a lifetime.

Our Website continues to be an efficient way to share important information, so please check it often for updates and announcements as On-line registration will begin very soon! Please make note that due to practice and field restrictions, SW will field only 8 teams this year. Rosters will be filled on a first come first serve basis.

SWAPW is looking for experienced Head football and Cheer coaches. If you would like to volunteer please submit your volunteer application to swa.dawgs@gmail.com. Volunteer applications can be found under the Forms section of our website. We value your opinion and encourage you to share any ideas that you may have to improve our program for the children in our community. Your Board of Directors are available to assist you if needed and can be reached at swa.dawgs@gmail.com.

Thanks, and we’ll see you on the gridiron!
