SWANTON - The Swanton Bulldogs wanted to send their seniors out with a bang and they did just that as they crushed the Danbury Lakers by a score of 60-0 this past Friday night at Hansbarger Stadium. Going into the game, the Swanton coaching staff wanted to put an emphasis on the run game and they made sure of that as 9 different players carried the ball for the Bulldogs.Sophmore quarterback Travis Hilton led the Bulldog offense with 2 rushing touchdowns and another 2 touchdowns through the air to senior wide receiver Louis Miller. Miller would finish his night with 2 catches for 72 yards which brought him to a total of 31 catches for 707 yards for his senior season. The return of sophmore runningback J.R. Nagan also made a big impact on the game with 83 yards on 11 carries. Sophmore fullback Mimmo Lytle continued his bruising runs with 27 yards including 2 touchdowns. Lytle and senior offensive lineman Jake Redfox also made some huge holes up front to allow a sucessful run game. Senior wide receiver Alec Maier then stepped into the game and ran the ball well finishing with 33 yards and 1 touchdown. Freshman fullback Jacob Ressinger also added a rushing touchdown for the Bulldog offense.
Defensively, senior linebacker Cole Doren and junior linebacker Tom Leahey led the Bulldogs. Leahey also contributed 55 yards rushing and also returned a punt for a touchdown. Louis Miller and Sam Knepley recorded interceptions for the defense. Senior kicker Nick Yunker finished the night 6 for 8 on P.A.T.s and only had to punt once.
Although the season did not go as well as the Bulldogs had hoped, they displayed character by playing hard through the end of the season. The coaching staff and returning players will take a much-needed break before weight lifting begins in December. Expectations are high for the 2010 season as the offense will return 7 starters while the defense returns 7 and additional players who saw playing time on Friday nights.
The Bulldogs would like to recoginize the 2009 seniors for all their hard work and dedication to Swanton Football:
