* Bulldogs Struggle Against P.H. *

     This past Friday evening, the Swanton Bulldogs traveled to the home of the defending N.W.O.A.L. champion Patrick Henry Patriots and were defeated 47-0 Friday night. Despite a great showing by the Bulldog defense to begin the game, penalties and a well-coached Patrick Henry defense caused trouble for the ‘Dogs.  Junior runningback Tom Leahey had a tremendous individual effort for the offense with 56 yards rushing and also made big plays on defense along with senior defensive lineman, Jacob Redfox. Despite the disappointing outcome of the game, Head Coach Ben Ohlemacher and his coaching staff and the team remain optimistic about this season and promise that they will not stop working until they demonstrate the potential that they have yet to fully display.  Immediately after the game Friday night, the coaching staff was already at work to correct the mistakes that happened and get an early start on preparations for their next opponent, NWOAL rival, the Wauseon Indians.

     The Bulldogs will return to action next Friday night, September 11th for their HOME OPENER against the Wauseon Indians with a 7:00pm kickoff at Hansbarger Stadium. The game will also be Parent’s Night. The Bulldog Football program would like to thank all the fans who traveled to Patrick Henry this past Friday night and hope everyone had a safe trip home. We hope to see all the Bulldog faithful packing the stadium Friday night for what many predict to be an exciting game.

* Bulldog JV News *

    Following the varsity defeat Friday night, the Bulldog JV team traveled back to Patrick Henry Saturday morning with a bad taste in their mouths. In a hard fought contest that went down to the final minutes, the Bulldog JV squad lost to Patrick Henry by a score of 16-8. Quarterback Sam Knepley and wide receiver Paul Kennedy made big plays for the Bulldog JV offense while Brendan Avalos gave a strong effort on defense. Defensive backs Nick Schaffer and Andrew Foore also recorded interceptions for the Bulldog JV defense. The loss brings the JV record to 1-1 . The next JV game will be Saturday, September 12th at Wauseon with a 10:00am kickoff.

Juniors: Todd Christy, 6-4, 232, RB-DE; Landon Schaffner, 5-10, 177, QB-DB.

Outlook:

    The Indians have good numbers in the program thanks to 58 players on the varsity roster, which should translate into competition for positions and some depth.  One athlete to watch on offense is Schaffner, who gained experience by starting at QB as a sophomore. Emans said the Indians may throw more than in years past to take advantage of Schaffner's athleticism. The defense features a pair of All-NWOAL performers in Deeds in the backfield and senior Matt Hunter on the line.
