Lake Flyers

Coach: Bob Abbey, third year

from Toledo Blade Football Preview:

Last season: 3-7, 1-6

Last 10 years: 45-55, 31-38

Returning letter winners: 13

Returning starters: offense 7, defense 5

Schemes: Spread Option / 4-2-5

Top players: Seniors: Brandon Tantari, 6-6, 195, DE-TE; Ryan Hotmer, 6-0, 220, OL-LB; Jacob Pack, 6-4, 225, OL-DT; Terry Tomanski, 6-0, 160, WR-DB; Greg Grove, 5-11, 150, WR-DB. Junior Alan Martinez, 6-0, 200, QB-FS.

Outlook: Following a winless season in 2007, the Flyers managed to win three games last season. With a big and experienced offensive line, Abbey believes Lake will have a strong running game.

"We're hoping our experienced line can help us be more physical," Abbey said. "That should help us improve our 3-7 record."

Abbey also is counting on good team speed and overall physical strength to be major assets. Tomanski ranked fourth in the SLL in receiving yards (377) and averaged 25.1 yards per catch. But little depth, and inexperience at quarterback, are a possible sticking points along with a young defensive backfield.
