Devils Triumph in Come From Behind Win at South Side Beaver The Devils kicked off their 2006 campaign with an exciting fourth quarter come from behind win against 1998 Single A State Champ South Side Beaver today on a rain soaked field. Tropical Storm Ernesto supplied the rain but the Devils gave their fans a taste of sunshine with 14 points in the last frame to beat the Rams 14-13. After falling behind 13-0 on two big plays by the home team, Sharpsville came up with 14 of their own including a gutsy 2 point conversion for the win with 1:32 left in the game after pounding it in for the TD. Sharpsville has another big Single A rival game next Friday against Farrell who after a long stint in the WPIAL has returned to D-10. Take a look at the albums page for some pics of the game.
Meet The Devils 2006! In what has become an annual first day of school tradition at Sharpsville, the fans, athletes, coaches, band members, and cheerleaders gathered together at The Pines for Meet the Devils 2006! See the album page for all the pics!
Devils Stifle the Steelers The Devils start off their 2006 season 2-0 with another big win over a Single A opponent. The game wasn't as close as the score implied with Farrell's lone score coming off a 90 yard interception for a touchdown in the second quarter. For the second time in as many weeks, the Devils found themselves scoreless and down at the half. They dominated both sides of the ball in the second half and were it not for multiple turnover this game could have been a blowout but instead it ended with our local boys victorious, 14-6. Take a look at the albums page for the pics and see you next week for the home opener against the Big Reds.
Devils Downed by Reds A costly turnover on a punt in the closing moments of the game and some poor clock management at the end of the game cost the Devils a comeback win tonight in a back and forth shootout with the Big Reds of West Middlesex. The Red's seemed to be able to run the ball at will in the first three quarters and the Devils kept up with them by scoring on two big plays from scrimmage. The score was tied at 20 with 3:26 to go and the Reds had to punt from deep in their own territory. The Devils fumbled the punt however and the Reds recovered and punched it in for the win. Sharpsville had one more chance with 1:13 left and worked the ball down to the Reds 28 yard line, but with no time outs, they ran out of time. Both teams had long TD runs (the Devils from scrimmage and the Reds on a kickoff return) called back by penalties earlier in the game. Check out the Albums section for the pics and the video section for a video. The Devils travel up to Linesville next week to take on the Single A rival Lions next Friday.
Devils Trounce Lions The Lions were no match for the Devils who rebounded from last week's loss to dominate the game tonight at Linesville 41-6 in another big Class A win. We return home next Friday against Conneaut Lake. Be there!
Devils Beat Indians In a somewhat lackluster game, the Devils overcame multiple injuries to beat the Conneaut Lake Indians 38-16 tonight at The Pines. With the win, Sharpsville moves to 4-1 and goes up to Lakeview next week to take on the Sailors. Take a look at the albums section for pics of tonight's game and in the video section for two videos of game action.
Devils Sunk by Sailors The Devils sailed into Lakeview last night with high hopes for a victory but their hopes were quickly sunk by the Sailors in the form of a 42-6 trouncing. See the pics in the album section.
Devils Stun KC! In what many would describe as an upset, the Devils pulled off a huge win over their number one rival tonight 29-28. In one of the most exciting games ever played within the confines of The Pines, the Devils were able to contain the high powered duo of Plotts and Gargano and pull out the win with a gutsy two point conversion with just over 2 minutes to play in the game. The defense then had to hold off one final scoring threat to seal the victory. The Devils opened the scoring with two TD's in the opening quarter and KC answered back with a score of their own in the second. Sharpsville again scored in the second to retake a two TD lead only to surrender it right back to KC before the half when KC stormed back almost immediately. The teams took the locker room with the Devils holding a 21-14 lead. The third quarter was all defense as the score remained the same but in the 4th, KC scored twice to take their first lead with just over 6 minutes to go in the game. Sharpsville's final drive took them deep into Golden Eagle territory and on a 4th down play they punched it in for 6. Jarryd Summers lined up under center to go for two but a penalty put the Devils back 5 to the 8 yard line. Summers then lined up for the PAT. His kick sailed wide and appeared to seal the Devils fate but another yellow flag, this one for roughing the kicker, took the ball back to the KC 4 yard line. Again, Summers lined up at QB and under heavy pressure threw on the run to Ryan Maurice who made the spectacular diving grab for the deciding two point conversion. KC moved the ball down to the Sharpsville 23 but an interception on 4th down ended the threat and the party was on! Take a look at the album section for game pics and a VIDEO of the WINNING two point conversion in the video section. See you next week for the Homecoming game against Cochranton.
Devils Claim Win Over Cochranton in 06 Homecoming Game The Devils dominated the Cards 28-8 in a game that wasn't really as close as the score. The Devils had two more TD's called back by penalties and pretty much controlled the game on the wet, mudsoaked turf at The Pines. The team supplied the festive mood for this year's Homecoming with the win. See the game pics and the Homecoming Court pics in the albums section.
Devils Washed Away by Brookville The number one AA team in D-9, the Brookville Raiders came to town and overpowered the Devils tonight in miserable conditions at the Pines. In a steady downpour the Devils lead at the half 7-6 but three unanswered TD's in the 3rd and 4th quarters gave the Raiders the victory 24-7 spoiling what was left of Senior Night. Check the pics out in the album section. See you next week in Mercer to finish out the regular season.
Devils Enter D-10 Playoffs with Big Win Over Mustangs By beating an upstart Mercer Mustang squad 23-15, the Devils once again gain admission to the D-10 Playoff brackets where they will face Cambridge Springs on Friday night at 7:00 PM on the turf of Wilmington's Field. Come on down and cheer the team on to the next level! Check out the pics in the album section.
Coach "Pics" up 100th Career Win as Devils Roll in First Round of the D-10 Playoffs The Final was 35-14 but the game was much closer than the score indicated. The Devils tacked on three 4th quarter scores to finally put this one away, but with about six minutes to go, this was a two point game. Regardless, Sharpsville advances to the second round to take on undefeated Mercyhurst Prep (11-0) next Friday at 7:00 PM. With this win, Devils head coach Paul Piccirilli notches his 100th career victory in his 10th year at the helm.
Devils Upset Undefeated Mercyhurst Prep in Double Overtime to Advance to D-10 Title Game In a thrilling come from behind win tonight at a frigid Erie McDowell Stadium, the Blue Devils tied the game in the fourth quarter, hung with the Mercyhurst Prep Lakers in one OT, then dominated on both sides of the ball in the second OT to topple their undefeated North Region foes and advance into the District 10 final game against West Middlesex. The Devils failed to score on two trips deep into Laker territory in the first half with one drive ending inside the ten yard line and another on a missed field goal. Prep swung the momentum their way with a second quarter blocked punt and then a few plays later scored on a 40 yard catch and run to take the 7-0 lead into the locker room. They held that lead until midway through the 4th when Sharpsville manufactured a long drive of their own to tie the score. After exchanging possesions a few more times, the clock ran out on both teams in regulation. The Devils scored in two plays from the ten yard line in the first OT but on a 4th and 8 the Lakers kept pace with a pass into the left corner of the endzone and forced OT number two. The Devils D was ferocious and held the Lakers on 3 downs forcing them to boot the FG and take the three point lead. But the Devils were not to be denied tonight and on three plays took the ball to about six inches from the goal line. Trailing 17-14 on fourth down, Jaryd Summers dove over the top for the score to end the game with the Devils on top 20-17. Take a look at the album page and also for three new videos, one of which is the winning TD in OT2. See you next week for the District 10 Championship game agains West Middlesex.
Devils Eliminated from Playoff Race by Big Reds 35-13 The Devils stormed unto the Slippery Rock turf and took a quick 13-0 lead on the undefeated West Middlesex Big Reds but after a quick score to end the half cut that lead to 13-7, the Reds demolished the Devils in the second half running off 35 straight points and pitching a shutout in the second half. The Devils were the victims of numerous big plays as the Reds seemed to score at will on huge running plays. With this loss the Reds move on to interdistrict play to go up against the D-9 champ. We here in Sharpsville and all of Mercer County wish them all the best! The Devils will once again say goodbye to their seniors who finished their High School careers tonight. We would like to wish each of them the best of luck in their future endeavors. Devils.com will be shutting down the power here until next year. We may have on occasional Sharpsville boys or girls basketball game on here so check back every so often. See you next year folks! |
