It was a night of mistakes from a young inexperienced team and a night of missed opportunities for the Devils who were beaten by the visiting Golden Beavers. After falling behind 7-0 on a 60+ yard run from scrimmage on the Beaver's first series, the Devils had a chance to tie it up late in the first quarter but failed to punch it in on 8 attempts inside the 10 yard line. An interference call in the end zone on 4th down bought Sharpsville another four tries, but it still wasn't enough as the tough Beaver defense held. Beaver then went up 13-0 and then 21-0 before the Devils got on the board in the 4th quarter to make it 21-6. The PAT was blocked. Beaver tacked on one more score at the end of the game. Let's hope history repeats itself since last year we started off with a loss to Beaver but rebounded the following week against the Reynolds Raiders, who coincidently are the Devils next opponent next Friday. Check out the albums page for the pics, and the video page for a couple videos.
Sharpsville came out of Reynolds tonight with one for the "W" column by defeating the Raiders 20-13 in a hard fought interclassification MCAC game. The Devils broke out on top and scored first on a nice sustained drive late in the 1st quarter marking the first points Reynolds had allowed thus far this year. The Raiders had pounded KC last week 31-0 but didn't fair so well against the other Single A MCAC representative. Sharpsville extended the lead to 14-0 on a TD run by Mark Anglin and a beautiful diving catch by Jordan Cataldi for the 2 point conversion. After trading scores in the second half, the Raiders were threatening to tie it up but Cory Rice came up with the big interception and return to ice the win for the Devils. Check out the album page for all the pics and the video section for a couple videos. See you next week at home vs Bald Eagle Academy.
The Devils moved to 2-1 tonight with a non-league victory over visiting Bald Eagle Academy tonight at The Pines, outgunning the Golden Eagles 17-12. The Devils jumped out to a quick 17-0 lead in the first half and held on the rest of the way for the win. Take a look at the albums page for the pictures and the video page for a couple of videos. Next up for the Devils is a road game to meet Steubenville Central Catholic. See the Driving Direction section for directions and a map. See you next week!
It wasn't pretty tonight in Steubenville as the Catholic Central Crusaders jumped out to a 33-0 lead in the first half. While the Devils made some halftime adjustments, it was too little too late and they went on to lose the game 45-14. Steubenville used some impressive team speed to dominate this non-league game. The Devils will look to rebound next week against Lutheran East. Remember, this game will be Saturday at 1:00 PM. Take a look at the albums for the pics and a new video has been added.
The doc will be out of town for the next two games (Lutheran East and JFK). This weekend, I'll be in Harrisburg and the next I'll be in LA to attend educational conferences for my day job. I will be back between games however. What I'd like to do is have ANY fans with digital cameras, take whatever pics they like and SEND THEM TO ME! I will then post them on the site (with credit to the photographer if desired) for the next two games. I thought it would be a nice change of pace and allow for a "fan's perspective" on the games. I hope some of you can do this so the site doesn't go stagnant for the next two weeks. If you think you can do it, plese e-mail me at bonz@nauticom.net and let me know. This will allow me to plan for just how many pics we might have. Thanks!
NEW PICS OF THIS GAME NOW UP! The Devils took out the frustrations of last week's loss on the Falcons of Lutheran East today with a 50-6 pounding. Sharpsville reserves got some valuable experience in this non-league game against a badly overmatched opponent. So far, only one fan has contacted me with some pics. The offer still stands however. Anyone with good pics of this game and next week's home game against Warren JFK can e-mail them to me for inclusion in the albums section. Send your shots to: bonz@nauticom.net
Well, it looks like I missed one heck of a game. While the Devils came up short on the scoreboard 14-6, the game was closer than the score indicated and with a small break in any of several situations, they might have pulled off the upset. In any event, Sharpsville is sitting about where they had hoped to be at this point in the season at 3-3 and are ready to take on their MCAC Single A rivals on the road next week in West Middlesex. Thanks go out to BloodRunsBlue who stood in for me manning the camera for this week's pics. See you next week!
The Devils went down to Middlesex tonight and in what was the most entertaining Sharpsville game in a long time, came up on the short end of a 28-25 OT loss to the Big Red. In a see-saw battle of Single A MCAC teams, the score was tied at the half, 15-15. Neither team could do much in the third and it was mostly a battle for field position until the Devils put together an impressive, time consuming drive in the 4th culminating in a TD and PAT with just over two minutes to play. The Reds countered with their own drive and with just seven seconds left in regulation, passed for the TD and the tie. This seemed to deflate the high flying visitors who after losing the toss in OT, managed to come up with just a field goal on their first and only OT possession. The Reds then stole this one with an impressive 5 yard TD run to win the game. The Devils will have to become KC fans next week and hope that the Golden Eagles can knock off WM on Saturday if Sharpsville is to have any chance to qualify for a share of the Single A MCAC title. Take a look at the albums section for the pics and the video section for two new movies. See you next week at The Pines vs Mercyhurst Prep.
Check out the Albums section for some Sharpsville Homecoming Parade pictures!
Here are some pics of the candidates, their escorts and the King and Queen.
Sharpsville cruised to a 48-12 win over visiting Mercyurst Prep tonight in the 2003 Homecoming Game. The reserves finished out the second half and the starters cheered them on in tonight's non-league game. Check out the pics in the album section and I have three new videos from tonight's game in the Video Section. See you next week against Kennedy.
It was Senior Night and the fans were treated to a fireworks display before the game but the Devils provided some fireworks of their own in this big come back win. Trailing at half time by one and by eight early in the 3rd the Devils blew it open with some power running and timely passing to pull ahead for good late in the quarter. By the time it was over the home team had finished off an improved KC squad 42-21. After getting a steady diet of Ross Gargano in the first half, the Devils were able to adjust and shut down the KC star late in the game. The offense took it from there and put this one in the "W" column. We now await the decision of the powers that be in D-10 to see if we'll get an invitation to the post season as an at-large representative with a respectable 5-4 record. Take a look at the album section for tonight's pictures and the video section for a few movies.
The D-10 boys met today (Sunday) and we're in! The Devils will play Cochranton at Meadville HS on Friday (Halloween Night) at 7:00 PM. Make sure you put your trick or treat candy away early and get up to Meadville to root on the Devils in the opening round of the D-10 Playoffs. In the other Single A game, West Middlesex goes against Conneaut Valley at New Wilmington.
Halloween was not kind to our side tonight in Meadville as the Devils made a quick exit from D-10 playoff action losing to the undefeated Cochranton Cardinals 38-17. Sharpsville was the victim of the big play tonight in this loss in which Cochranton never trailed. The Cards jumped out to a 17-0 halftime lead on a couple of big plays from scrimmage. The Devils made it interesting for awhile by climbing back into it with 10 quick 3rd quarter points. But the Cards blew it open again with their strong running game and finished off the Devils season rather abruptly. Check out the album page for the pics and the video page for three final videos. As always, we wish the seniors well in their future endeavors as they close out their High School football careers. Congratulations go out to Chris Anglin, Mark Anglin, Brandon Christopher, George Koches, Joe Kuzmanko, John Perriello, Jim Totin, Steve VanZanten, Terry Walker, and Jesse Young. Good luck gentleman! Stay tuned right here as The Doc begins coverage of Blue Devil Basketball in a few weeks. Until then, we'll see you later!
The Devils are off to a rocky start in the new 03-04 basketball campaign. After an opening game win against Fort LeBouf the Devils followed with three straight losses to Brookfield, West Middlesex, and Hickory respectively. Go to the albums page for a compellation of pics from these games.
In what has become a tradition here in "Da-Ville", Sharpsville fans convened on December 5th to sing Christmas carols, watch a snowy parade, light the town Christmas tree, and welcome Santa. Look at the albums for some pics. Devils Burn CP The Devils evened up their record at 3-3 tonight with a win against visiting Commodore Perry. They trailed most of the way with the deficit reaching 9 points through much of the third period. But in foul trouble and getting desperate they clawed their way back into this one and took the win 65-60. See the album page for the pics. Devils Shellac The Lake Sharpsville travelled north for a rare Friday afternoon game today and took on the Conneaut Lake Indians. The Devils controlled the game from tipoff to final buzzer and came home with a 64-45 win. With this win we're back to .500 at 5-5. Take a look at some pics of the game in the albums section. Blue Darling Pics Are Now Up Go to the albums section for some pics of the Darlings in action. Devils Lose to KC Well, Sharpsville boys lost to "Single A" KC tonight. This drops the Devils back to .500 at 7-7. The crowd was much more entertaining than the game tonight. Gotta hand it to the Devil fans and especially the students who were really.....Ummmmm, COLORFUL! See the pics in the album section. Devils Torched on Buzzer Beater The Devils lead for most of the first half and even had to come back from a seven point deficit in the third. They held a slim lead with a couple minutes remaining in the 4th but the Trojans tied it up with 37 seconds to go. Sharpsville tried to hold on for the final shot but when that shot wouldn't drop, Greenville grabbed the board and fired up a half court prayer that found nothing but net at the buzzer and the Trojans stole this one on the road. This one dropped the Devils to 10-9 overall and to 4-2 in the MCAC tightening up the AA playoff picture. For the pics, you know what to do.
Sharpsville's Basketball teams closed out their respective seasons a few weeks ago and we'd like to give our congratulations to all of our seniors. For the Darlings, Shana Wilson ended her career tonight and for the Devils Mark Anglin, Chris Anglin, Nick Mazurek, and Tim Gardner all finished out their high school careers. Also, Brittany Brown, Brittaney Chiodo, and Amanda Ellison cheered their last games as Devils. The best of luck goes out to all of our departing seniors! We wish them the best in whatever lies ahead.
