Devils Gear Up For Opener
The Devils get ready to open up their 2002 campaign against Western Beaver of the WPIAL next Saturday. The teams have split their last two games with each team winning at home. They'll have to travel south for this year's opener and then will take on Reynolds the following week in their home debut.

FOR DIRECTIONS TO WESTERN BEAVER use the "Driving Directions" link on the left of the page.

Devils Dammed by the Beavers
The Devils took an early 3-0 lead in Saturday's game with the Golden Beavers from the WPIAL but it was pretty much downhill from there. A 25 yard TD run by Jeff Watson was negated by a penalty and this seemed to rattle the inexperienced Devil squad. That lack of experience showed throughout the rest of the game as the Beavers dominated the line of scrimmage and rolled up a ton of yardage to the tune of a 34-10 beating of Sharpsville. Another costly (and very questionable) penalty negated yet another virtual score when an 80 yard sprint by Ricky Golub was called back by a motion flag (see the video section for the play). These two calls hurt the team but it really wasn't that close as the Beavers dominated this young, banged up Devil team. Check out the pics in the album section.

Devils Dominate Raiders
The Devils pulled a Jeckyl and Hyde switch in putting it to a surprised Reynolds Raider team tonight in a dominating 14-0 victory. This was an absolutely different team than the one we saw last week in Western Beaver. The Devils played "Sharpsville" football tonight and kept alive a now 25 game home winning streak. Amazingly, they did it entirely on the ground, relying on 45 carries and no passes. Freshman Ricky Golub and Sophomore Shawn Valenly shouldered the load with the majority of the carries with Jeff Watson also contributing to the ground attack. The defense tonight was awesome in shutting down the Raiders and keeping them off the scoreboard. Check out the albums section for more pics of tonight's game. Don't forget next week's game at 1:00 PM Saturday against cross state power Pius X who upset Sharon tonight 7-6.

Royals Romp over Devils
Well, all good things must come to an end and this includes the Devils incredible 25 game home winning streak. Our old friends the Pius X Royals came into town and put an end to the streak which stretched back into the 1996 season. After Sharpsville recovered a Pius fumble on the Royals first play from scrimmage, Mark Anglin returned to the line up to throw a TD pass to Ray Rotell on the Devils first play. The 7-0 lead was short lived however as the Royals simply dominated the young Devils for the rest of the way. Pius rolled to a 41-10 win and packs up and leaves Mercer County with two back to back wins (they beat Sharon last week 7-6). The Devils drop to 1-2 on the year with this loss. Take a look at the albums section or click the pic above to see the shots of this weeks game. Later in the week I hope to have some video up as well so come on back!

It's onward and upward for Sharpsville who take on Red Bank Valley next Friday night at 7:00 PM. Take a look at the Driving Direction section for a map and how to get there.

Devils Drop Another One to Redbank Valley
Well, The Doc is out of town tending to his day job but by listening in on NSN over the net, I see that the Devils went down to a surprisingly good District 9 team in Red Bank Valley 30-22. From my eyes and ears at the game, I hear that the Devils were knocking on the door but couldn't kick it in for the potential tying points.

Special Thanks to Doug "DA" Nashtock for this weeks pictures. I was out of town and he filled in for me. Check the Albums page for the pics.

Devils Flatten Falcons
It might have been weather suited for ducks but it definitely wasn't suited for Falcons as the Devils rolled over an undermanned Lutheran East squad. We saw the "mercy rule" for the first time this year when Sharpsville pulled out to a 35-0 lead early in the 3rd quarter. The Falcons scored with just over a minute to go to spoil the shutout. With the final score of 35-6 Sharpsville improves to 2-3 and will travel to Liberty Center next week. Take a look at the albums page for game photos and also some shots of the homecoming festivities.

Devils Mauled by the Tigers of Liberty Center
There might have been a rainbow, but there certainly wasn't any pot of gold for the Devils tonight as they ran into the Tigers of Libery Center, Ohio. In a battle of 1997 State Champs from their respective states, the Tigers proved that they still have it and, at least tonight, the Devils didn't. Using a no huddle offense throughout the entire game Libery amassed acres of yardage in their 55-35 mauling of the Devils. Most of it on the ground.

Mother Nature supplied some fireworks before the game offering up a combination of torrential rain, wind, and mud and topped it off with a beautiful double rainbow right before kickoff. The Tigers took it from there with their own brand of fireworks by taking Ray Rotell's booming kickoff back 99 yards for a quick 6-0 lead. They built it to 21-0 before the Devils knew what hit them. Sharpsville fought back quickly and cut the lead to 21-14 but after a few bad breaks and some calls that went against them, they couldn't get back into the game.

Next week starts the "ones that count" as the Devils welcome West Middlesex to the Pines in what promises to be their biggest game of the year. Be there to root them on to another MCAC class A title! Click the link for the album and see the new videos.

Nothing to Cheer About
Well, it looks like the Devils string of playoff appearences will come to an end as the Big Red of West Middlesex came in tonight and dominated the Devils in a key Class A matchup at McCracken Field 27-7. Middlesex completely controlled the tempo of the game and the ball with a pounding ground game. The Devils just couldn't get untracked on offense tonight with the exception of a 65 yard run by QB Mark Anglin early in the 3rd quarter. Ray Rotell's beautiful onside kick got the ball back and the momentum shifted, but only briefly as the Big Red got the ball back after a turnover. Tonight marked the final home game for the Devils who celebrated senior recognition night. Next week we take to the road again against Mercyhurst Prep at the Vet in Erie in an unusual Thursday night game.

No Mercy!
The Devils took out their frustrations on the 0-8 Mercyhurst Prep Lakers tonight on the turf at the Vet in Erie. At Sharpsville's "home away from home" the Devils rolled to a 42-0 first half lead and cruised to a 42-14 win with the "Mercy Rule" in effect the entire second half. The Lakers scored two TD's in the 4th quarter on the Devil reserves who played the entire second half. Next week is the annual grudge match with the KC Golden Eagles. Take a look at the pics and two new videos from tonights big win.

Devils End 2002 Campaign with Loss to KCHS
The Devils finished a disappointing 2002 season with a loss on the road to the KCHS Golden Eagles today 20-15. After jumping out to an 8-0 lead on a Mark Anglin to Matt Penman TD strike (see the video section) and the two point conversion in the first quarter, the Devils found themselves playing catch-up later in the game. KC eventually tied it up with an 8 pointer of their own, and blew it open with two TD's in the second half and looked to cruise to an easy win. The Devils gave it one more shot with a late TD, again on an Aglin pass. This one was caught by Rick Golub and was carried for about 45 yards. Sharpsville nearly recovered a beautiful Ray Rotell onside kick but got one last shot anyway after an interception with just over two minutes to play. Unfortunately however, with time running out, Anglin threw one into the hands of a KC defender to put an end to the game and to a tough season.

The Devils finish out this year at 3-6 and out of playoff contention for the first time in six years. While the departing seniors have to be disappointed with the end result, the Devil underclassman have a lot to look forward to and the future seems bright for this young team that was ravaged by injuries early and lacked the size and experience to compete with an ever improving MCAC.

We as fans have a lot to look forward to as well as the Devils vow to return next year and again vie for the class A crown. From Dr. Bonz to you, here's wishing all football fans a great off season! See you next year!
