After a successful 2011 All-Star game and Home Run Derby, the SVABL is proud to announce that this year's festivities will return to Deltaville again this year on Saturday, July 14th. Last year's Home Run Derby was the most exciting in the 10 year history of the SVABL, with over 70 baseballs flying out of Deltaville Stadium before Brandon Hanks of the Tappahannock Tides captured the 2011 Home Run Derby championship. Oh yeah, the All-Star game was pretty good also, with All-Star game MVP Jonathan Brooks, also of the Tappahannock Tides, launching a two run homrun over the right field fence to propel his team to a 3-1 victory. PIRATES DEFEAT CARDINALS 5-3 TO CAPTURE 2011 SVABL CHAMPIONSHIP!!!!!!!!
The 10th season of the SVABL concluded today at Captains Park on the campus of Christopher Newport University in a day of great baseball. After being rained out Saturday night the Cardinals defeated the Cannons 6-4 in a tightly contested contest, enabling the Cardinals to advance to the championship game to face the Pirates. The Cardinals jumped out early on the Pirates to take a 2-0 lead in the 1st inning. The Pirates got one run back in the bottom of the 1st inning. The Pirates tied it up in the bottom of the 5th inning & went ahead 3-2 in the bottom of the 7th inning. That lead was short lived as the Cardinals tied it up at 3-3 in the top of the 8th inning. In the bottom of the 8th inning the Pirates responded with two runs to go up 5-3 & that's how the game ended. The Pirates captured their third title in the 10 year history of the SVABL, trailing only the Gloucester Astros, who have captured four SVABL titles. We'd like to thank everyone for allowing us to have what was probably the most competitive season yet in the history of the SVABL.
