ASTROS FACE CARDINALS FOR CHAMPIONSHIP!!!!!
The Gloucester Astros will face off with the Peninsula Cardinals Monday night, 8/10, 7pm at Poquoson High School to determine the 2009 SVABL champion. The Cardinals, after having already eliminated the 3rd seeded Peninsula Pirates and 1st seeded York Cannons last week, defeated the Deltaville Deltas today 4-2 to earn the right to play for the 2009 championship. With Saturday night's game suspended after three innings due to rain the Cards and Deltas completed their game today at Poquoson High School at 1pm. After eliminating the Deltas, the Cards went on to defeat the Astros in the 4pm game 8-7. Monday's showdown will be the championship game with the victor taking home the hardware. Don't miss the action as the Astros attempt to capture their fourth SVABL championship while the Cards go after their first SVABL championship.

SVABL CHAMPIONSHIP TO BE DECIDED THIS WEEKEND!!!!!
The 2009 SVABL championship will be decided this weekend. As the SVABL finishes it's eighth season it will be interesting to watch whether the Gloucester Astros will secure their fourth championship, and second in a row. The showdown will take place at Mid-County park in williamsburg this weekend, beginning with the Deltaville Deltas taking on the Peninsula Cardinals Saturday night, 8/8 at 7pm. The winner of this game will have to beat the Astros two times on Sunday, 8/9 to become the 2009 SVABL champion. The festivities on Sunday will be at 4pm & 7pm (if necessary). The 2009 season has proven to be the most competitive season thus far, with 4 of the six teams finishing with better than a 12-8 record. Don't miss the action this weekend as the storylines unfold to determine the 2009 SVABL champion.

2009 SVABL PLAYOFFS BEGIN THIS FRIDAY, JULY 31ST
As the 2009 SVABL regular season closed out last night the matchups for the double elimination playoff tournament took shape. By way of a tiebreaker the York Cannons capture the 1st seed with a 14-6 regular season and the Gloucester Astros take the 2nd seed, also with a 14-6 mark. They will have a bye this Friday when the playoffs start. That leaves the matchups as follows: The 3rd seed Peninsula Pirates (13-7) will take on the 6th seed Hampton Braves (1-19) at 7:00pm this Friday at Mid-County park in Williamsburg. Also in Williamsburg at Warhill park the 4th seed Deltaville Deltas (12-8) will face off with the 5th seed Peninsula Cardinals (6-14). These games will begin the playoff tournament to determine the champion of the eigth season of SVABL baseball. Check out the "Schedules" link on the front page and click on "Playoffs" to see the whole playoff bracket. Don't miss the playoff action in what has been one of the most competitive seasons ever in the SVABL.

WEST ALL-STARS DEFEAT EAST ALL-STARS 8-4!!!!!
The West All-Stars defeated the East All-Stars Saturday night 8-4 in the eigth annual SVABL All-Star game. In what has become a showcase for the best talent in the SVABL, the West All-Stars used timely hitting to gain the victory against the East All-Stars. The West All-Stars were made up of players from the Deltas, Pirates and Cardinals while the East All-Stars teamed up players from the Cannons, Astros and Braves. Bryant Liberta of the Cardinals was named the MVP of the game after knocking two doubles to the fence in left centerfield. The SVABL would like to thank all the volunteers that helped make this year's game a success.

BALUS REIGNS SUPREME IN 2009 SVABL HOMERUN DERBY!!!!!
Chris Balus of the York Cannons captured the 2009 SVABL Homerun Derby Saturday night. He did so in impressive fashion, after ending the first round tied with fellow York Cannon Mike Romett with four homeruns. In the "swing off" Romett knocked two homers out of the park. Balus proceeded to send into orbit the first three pitches he went after to become the 2009 SVABL Homerun Derby champion. Ironically, Balus' pitcher for the Homerun Derby was none other than Romett. Nice job Chris on a very impressive performance!!!!!

2009 ALL-STAR GAME AGAIN AT PLUMERI PARK!!!!!
The 2009 SVABL All-Star game will be held Saturday, July 11th at Plumeri Park on the beautiful campus of the College of William and Mary in Williamsburg, VA. This will be the 7th year that the All-Star game has been held at Plumeri Park, one of the finest stadiums in Hampton Roads. This year's game promises to feature even more talent then last year's. The festivities will begin at 4:00pm with the always exciting and much anticipated Homerun Derby, open to any SVABL player. Start time for the All-Star game will be 7:00pm, as in years past. Mark this date on your calendar and don't miss this opportunity to see some of the finest talent in Hampton Roads battle it out in the 2009 SVABL All-Star game!!!!!

ASTROS CAPTURE 2008 SVABL CHAMPIONSHIP!!!!!
The Gloucester Astros captured the 2008 SVABL championship today by defeating the York Cannons 6-3 at Denbigh High School in Newport News. The Cannons defeated the Deltaville Deltas 1-0 Saturday night to earn a trip to the championship. The Astros victory adds a third SVABL title to their collection, making them the only team in SVABL history to capture three titles. Their other titles came in 2004 and 2006. Congratulations to the Astros!!!!!

SVABL CHAMPIONSHIP WEEKEND AUGUST 9TH & 10TH!!!!!
The SVABL heads into the 2008 championship weekend with several exciting storylines. First, will the Gloucester Astros, waiting to face the winner of the Deltaville Deltas and York Cannons battle Saturday night, become the first team to capture three SVABL Summer championships? The Astros will watch the Deltas fight it out against the Cannons Saturday night, 7pm at Denbigh High School, knowing that the winner has to take two from them Sunday to secure the 2008 title. The Cannons will be trying to capture their second SVABL title, having won it all in 2005. This will be the second meeting between the Deltas and Cannons in the playoffs, with the Cannons prevailing last Sunday 6-5 in extra innings. The Cannons then lost to the Astros 3-0, setting up Saturday night's matchup. Finally, the Deltas will be attempting to secure their first SVABL title in their second season. Regardless of how it turns out, this weekend promises to be action packed. The Cannons will face the Deltas Saturday night at 7pm. The winner will take on the Astros Sunday at 4pm and 7pm if necessary. All the action takes place at Denbigh High in Newport News. Make sure you don't miss this weekend!!!!!

SVABL PLAYOFFS BEGIN SATURDAY, AUGUST 2ND!!!!!
The 2008 SVABL playoffs begin this Saturday, August 2nd. Catch the action as the 2007 SVABL champion Pirates take on the Cardinals at 4pm in Williamsburg at Mid-County Park. The winner will tangle with the Gloucester Astros at 7pm. Meanwhile, at Kiln Creek in Newport News the Rams will battle the Storm at 4pm for the right to take on the York Cannons at 7pm. Awaiting the winner of that game will be the Deltaville Deltas on Sunday at Denbigh High at noon. As the SVABL finishes it's seventh season, the Astros and Pirates will each be trying to secure a third SVABL title. The Astros won the title in 2004 and 2006, while the Pirates have been crowned champions in 2003 and 2007. The York Cannons will be shooting for their second SVABL championship, having won the title in 2005. The Deltas will be making a strong push for there first SVABL title in only their second season in the league, while the Cardinals will also be aiming for their first crown. Don't miss the action beginning Saturday night as the playoffs begin.

EAST DEFEATS WEST IN 2008 SVABL ALL-STAR GAME
The East All-stars defeated the West All-stars Saturday night 8-5 in the 2008 SVABL All-star game at Plumeri Park in Williamsburg. In an exciting game the East jumped out to an 8-0 lead after two innings only to have the West score five runs in their comeback attempt. MVPs of the night were Steven Millerleile of the York Cannons for the East All-Stars and John West of the Peninsula Pirates for the West All-stars. Millerleile tossed four innings for the East while giving up one run. West pitched six scoreless innings of relief for the West. Thanks to all the volunteers and sponsors that enabled this great night of baseball to take place!!!!!

HAMLETT CAPTURES HOMERUN DERBY CROWN!!!!!
Brandon Hamlett of the Gloucester Astros won the 2008 SVABL Homerun Derby Saturday at Plumeri Park with six homeruns. In what has become a much anticipated tradition in the SVABL, Hamlett won the Derby by one homerun over Matt Brown of the Deltaville Deltas, who had hit five homeruns out of Plumeri Park. With 2007 Derby winner Josh Grimes of the Peninsula Pirates in attendance but out of action due to injury, Hamlett established six homeruns as the number to beat early in the competition. Six homeruns withstood the competition and Hamlett became the winner. Congratulations Brandon!!!!!

ALL-STAR GAME RETURNING TO PLUMERI PARK FOR 2008!!!!!
The 2008 SVABL All-Star game will be Saturday, July 19th at 7:00pm. The game will again be held at Plumeri Park on the campus of the College of William and Mary in Williamsburg. This will be the sixth time in seven seasons that the SVABL has been fortunate enough to have the game at Plumeri Park. The day's events will include the annual "Homerun Derby" at 4:00pm, followed by the All-Star game. In what promises to be an exciting evening of action, two time defending "Homerun Derby" champion Steve Ansama of the York Cannons will be attempting to regain his title against stiff competition. The SVABL has used this event as it's major fundraiser for charity and this year will be no different. Mark the date on your calendar to come out and enjoy what should be a great night of baseball.

2008 SVABL ALL-STAR GAME RETURNS TO PLUMERI PARK
The 2008 SVABL All-Star game will return to Plumeri Park in Williamsburg again this year. The date for this year's game is Saturday, July 19th with game time beginning at 7:00pm. This year's event will again feature the ever popular Homerun Derby beginning at 4:00pm. The Homerun Derby is open to all SVABL players at a cost of $10, with the winner taking half the pot. Mark this date on your calendar for an evening of excitement with the finest players in the SVABL.

PIRATES DEFEAT CANNONS FOR 2007 SPRING TITLE!!!!!!!
The Peninsula Pirates defeated the York Cannons 12-5 to capture the 2007 SVABL Spring Championship Sunday night at Mid-County Park in Williamsburg. After losing the first game of the day to the Cannons 8-3, the Pirates rebounded to win the title in the nightcap. The Pirates become the second team in the SVABL to win two Spring championships, along with the Gloucester Astros (2004, 2006). The Pirates have won the Spring championship in 2003 & 2007. Many thanks to those that made 2007 our most competitive season to date. We look forward to an exciting 2008 season.

2007 SVABL PLAYOFFS BEGIN THIS WEEKEND!!!!!
The 2007 SVABL Spring playoff tournament will begin this weekend with some exciting matchups and will conclude next weekend with the crowning of the 2007 SVABL Spring champion. Starting off the action this weekend will be the Deltaville Deltas taking on the Gloucester Astros at 4:00pm Saturday, August 4th at Kiln Creek in Newport News. The winner of this game will battle the regular season champion York Cannons at 7:00pm at Kiln Creek this same night. Meanwhile at the same time, the Peninsula Pirates will take on the Peninsula Cardinals at 7:00pm at Mid-County Park in Williamsburg. 2007 marks the sixth year for the SVABL and the playoffs will have several storylines. The Deltaville Deltas will be trying to capture the 2007 SVABL Spring title in their first year of SVABL play while the Peninsula Cardinals will also be attempting to take home their first SVABL Spring title, having already won the 2006 SVABL Fall championship. The York Cannons and Peninsula Pirates are each trying to secure a second SVABL championship with the Cannons taking home the 2005 SVABL Spring championship while the Pirates won the 2003 SVABL Spring championship. Lastly, the Gloucester Astros will attempt to become the first team to win three SVABL championships, having already taken home the 2004 and 2006 SVABL Spring championships. Make sure to come out and support your favorite team and enjoy what promises to be some good baseball!!!!!

GRIMES WINS HOMERUN DERBY TO BECOME 2007 CHAMPION!!!!!
Josh Grimes of the Pirates knocked three Homeruns out of Plumeri Park on his way to earning the 2007 Homerun Derby championship. This marks the first time since 2004 that Steve Ansama of the Cannons hasn't won the championship.

SATURDAY NIGHT BASEBALL COMES TO THE SVABL!!!!!
With the addition of the Deltaville Deltas to the SVABL there will be a Saturday night game each week at the stadium in Deltaville. Each team will make at least one trip to Deltaville to play the Deltas on a Saturday night. Saturday, May 12th will be the debut of the Deltas in SVABL play. They will be hosting the Peninsula Cardinals at the stadium in Deltaville at 7:30pm.

DELTAVILLE DELTAS JOINING SVABL FOR 2007 SEASON!!!!!
The Deltaville Deltas will be joining the SVABL in 2007. The SVABL is proud to welcome Coach Jerry Crittendon and the Deltas to the league and feel they will make the SVABL even more competitive. The Deltas bring a strong tradition to the SVABL and look forward to competing for the 2007 SVABL championship. They most recently competed in the Virginia Baseball League in 2006. Welcome and good luck in 2007!

The 2007 SVABL Spring season will begin on Sunday, April 29th. In what is shaping up to be the most competitive season in it's five year history, the SVABL will be fielding eight teams. The two time SVABL champion Gloucester Astros (2004, 2006) will be trying to defend their title in an attempt to gather more championship hardware.

GOLF TOURNAMENT TO BE HELD IN APRIL!!!!!
The Peninsula Pirates will be having a golf tournament on Saturday, April 14th at Kiskiack Golf Course in Williamsburg. Format will be a 4 man scramble with a shotgun start beginning at 1:00pm. Registration begins at 12:00pm. Price per player is $75 and includes greens fee and cart rental, range balls, meal and awards ceremony after the tournament. Hole sponsorships are $100. Prizes for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place teams as well as "Longest Drive" and "Closest to the Pin." Come out and enjoy an afternoon of golf as the Pirates prepare for the 2007 season. Reserve your spot by calling 876-2536. Portion of proceeds will be donated to charity.

CARDINALS CAPTURE SVABL 2006 FALL LEAGUE CHAMPIONSHIP!!!!!
Congratulations to the Cardinals for winning the SVABL 2006 Fall League championship. The Cardinals defeated the Gloucester Astros 5-4 in the 1st round of the playoffs today. The Cannons defeated the Richmond Twins 4-3 in the other 1st round game. The Cardinals then defeated the Cannons 9-4 in the championship game.

GLOUCESTER ASTROS WIN 2006 CHAMPIONSHIP!!!!!
The Gloucester Astros became the 2006 SVABL Spring season champions by defeating the Gloucester White Sox 7-2 today @ Kiln Creek in Newport News. The Astros finsihed second in the regular season with a 13-7 record & went undefeated in the double elimination tournament to end the season with a 16-7 record while becoming the first team in SVABL history to capture 2 Spring season championships. The Astros also were champions in 2004. Congratulations to the Astros on this fine accomplishment!!!!

SVABL ALL-STARS VICTORIOUS VS NABA ALL-STARS!!!!!
In a game that went right down to the wire, the SVABL All-Stars outlasted the NABA All-Stars 8-6 Saturday night in the 2006 SVABL All-Star game @ Plumeri Park in Williamsburg. Scott Hudgins (3-3,Run) of the Cannons & Mike Granata (1-1,3RBI) of the Cardinals led the way for the SVABL All-Stars while sharing the game's MVP honors. J.C. Caperton (2-4,Run,RBI) & Robert Bunch (2-4,Run,RBI) led the NABA All-Stars. The evening was successful in raising money for the David McLane Scholarship Fund while also having the first recipient of the scholarship, Garrett Menichino of the Pirates, on hand participating in the game. Another note of interest was the partipation of two brothers on opposite teams with Stephen Green of the Cardinals playing for the SVABL All-Stars while his brother Trevor Green played for the NABA All-Stars. On a side note, Trevor flew out to Stephen in right field in the top of the ninth inning. Thanks to Jose Wood, Mike Harris & the rest of the NABA All-Stars for making the trip up to Williamsburg for the game. Also, thanks to Luz Rivera, Leah Davis & Lisa Menichino for coordinating the admissions, concessions & 50/50 raffle. Thanks to Will Armbruster, Matt Davis & Zach Hunt for covering the PA & scoreboard. Also, thanks to Jon Estes of Papa John's & Pat West of Food Lion for your help.

ANSAMA DEFENDS HOMERUN DERBY TITLE!!!!!
Steve Ansama of the York Cannons successfully defended his Homerun Derby title Saturday @ Plumeri Park in Williamsburg by sending 4 homeruns out during the competition. Ansama becomes the first player in SVABL history to win the competition two years in a row.

- Directions To Plumeri Park:
From the North/West: Take I-64 East to Lightfoot Exit 234 (Route 199 East). At top of exit ramp, take a right onto Route 199 East. Stay on 199 East until the Longhill Road exit. Exit at Longhill Road. At the top of the exit ramp, take a left at the light onto Longhill Road. Continue straight through another stoplight, then bear to the right as Longhill Road becomes Longhill Connector Road. At the next stoplight (in front of Eastern State Hospital), take a left onto Ironbound Road. Plumeri Park is on the left; the entrance will be the second driveway on the left.
From the South/East: Take I-64 West to Exit 242A (Route 199 West). Follow 199 through five stoplights. After the fifth light, take the next exit, Monticello Avenue. Bear right on the exit ramp and merge onto Monticello Avenue. At the next stoplight, take a left onto Ironbound Road. At the next stoplight, take a right, staying on Ironbound. Plumeri Park will be on your left; the entrance is the second driveway on the left.

YORK CANNONS WIN 2005 CHAMPIONSHIP!!!!!
The York Cannons pitching staff combined to throw 27 consecutive scoreless innings to lead them to the title. Matt Lewellen, David Spears, and Kevin Klevecs combined to hold the Cardinals scoreless in a 7-0 win on a hot Saturday evening. The next day they had to beat the Astros twice to earn the title. In the first game, Chad Blanchard pitched a solid 9 inning shutout to lead the Cannons to a 2-0 victory. This set the stage for the championship game in which Steven Millerleile held the Astros scoreless through 6 innings. David Spears threw a scoreless 7th and 8th innings and then John Hammons pitched the final inning to seal the 2nd game and an 8-0 championship win.
** 2005 SVABL ALL-STAR GAME RESULTS**
The SVABL All-Star game was played Saturday night, July 23rd, at William & Mary's Plumeri Park with the West squad defeating the East squad 3-1. The West squad was made up of players from the Astros, Pirates, and Cardinals while the East Squad was made up of players from the Cannons, Rockhounds, and White Sox. Anthony Harris of the Pirates was named MVP as he went 2-3 with a run-scoring double and a walk. Steve Ansama of the Cannons captured the Homerun Derby title. The event also raised $377 for the David McClane Memorial Scholarship Fund!
