The 2013 SVABL double elimination tournament had an exciting first weekend of action.  With nice weather all games were played and the final three teams are lined up for this coming weekend to determine the champion of the 2013 SVABL Summer Season.  With the Deltaville Deltas & Newport News Cardinals earning the 1st & 2nd seeds respectively, they earned Friday night off while the Braves battled the Pirates in Williamsburg and the Cannons took on the 61's in Newport News.  The Pirates defeated the Braves 12-2 while the 61's defeated the Cannons, setting up Saturday's action.  Saturday night proved to be very exciting, with the Cardinals defeating the Pirates 6-2 at Monfalcone field in Newport News.  Meanwhile, the 61's traveled up to Deltaville where the Deltas held them off 3-2 in a hard fought battle.  The Braves knocked off the Cannons, eliminating them from the tournament.  Sunday's proved to be another very exciting day of action.  Starting things off were the 61's and Braves at noon with the 61's prevailing 14-12 at Kiln Creek.  Awaiting the 61's were the Pirates but the 61's defeated the Pirates 10-8 to advance to next Saturday for a chance to play in the championship.  Meanwhile, at Woodside High School in Newport News, the Cardinals outlasted the Deltas 5-0 to advance straight to the championship game next Sunday at Captains Park on the campus of Christopher Newport University for the second year in a row.  This will leave the Deltas and 61's to battle next Saturday night, 7pm at Jamestown High for the right to take on the Cardinals for the 2013 SVABL Summer Championship.

It was all capped off with a Bryant Liberta walk-off for the victory and the trophy.

Special Congrats go out to the Champs; Chris Trotter(player/coach), Robbie Watkins, Gage Collins, Stephen Henning, Bryant Liberta, Brian Gould, Aaron Merritt, Alex Nuttycombe, and Tommy Griffiths. MATCHUP IS SET FOR SUNDAY SVABL CHAMPIONSHIP!!!!!!!

In what will be a repeat of last year's 2011 SVABL Championship matchup, the Pirates will take on the Cardinals today at Captains Park on the campus of Christopher Newport University in Newport News.  The situation is reversed this year, as the Pirates have to defeat the Cardinals twice today to win the championship.  The two teams played last Saturday night, with the Cardinals coming out on top with a 2-0 victory.  They then went on to defeat the Deltas on Sunday, thus advancing to the championship game today.  The Pirates, by virtue of the loss to the Cardinals last week, had to defeat the Cannons last Sunday and then the Deltas last night to advance to the championship game today.  The Pirates and Cardinals had a memorable championship game last year, with the Pirates winning 5-3 to capture the 2011 SVABL championship.  The action gets started at 1pm today so don't miss it.  Admission is $5 at the gate.

SVABL PLAYOFF TOURNAMENT UNDERWAY DESPITE RAINOUTS ON FRIDAY!!!!!!!!

The first weekend of the SVABL playoff tournament was full of excitement, on and off the field.  With the first round of the double elimination tournament rained out Friday night, the schedule and field locations had to be revised on short notice.  All the team's did a great job in showing flexibility in order to get all the games in this weekend.  The #4 seeded Cardinals and #5 seeded 61's began the action Saturday at 4pm.  The Cardinals won 13-2 and then faced off against the #1 seeded Pirates at Jamestown High School in Williamsburg.  At 5pm in Deltaville the #3 seeded Cannons squared off against the #6 seeded Braves.  The Cannons took this game 11-1 over the Braves.  The Cannons would now face off against the #2 seeded Deltas.  Meanwhile, back at Jamestown High the Cards and Pirates had a real pitcher's duel going.  The Cards prevailed 2-0, earning the right to face the #2 Deltas, who were victorious against the Cannons 13-2.  Sunday brought much needed sunshine and some very competitive games.  Starting the action off at noon were the 61's taking on the Braves.  In a tight game the Braves came out with the victory 5-4 over the 61's in the first elimination game of the weekend.  Next up the Braves had to face the Cannons.  In another tight game the Braves took a 7-4 lead into the bottom of the ninth against the Cannons, but were unable to hold the lead.  The Cannons picked up four runs for the walk-off victory.  With the Braves and 61's now eliminated, the Cannons would take on the Pirates in the last elimination game of the weekend.  At 5pm up in Deltaville, the Cardinals took on the Deltas in the winner's bracket game in a rare Sunday game at the stadium.  In another well-played game the Cards came out on top with a 4-3 victory, thus going right to the championship game next Sunday at Captains Park on the campus of Christopher Newport University in Newport News.  Back to Jamestown High in Williamsburg as the Pirates and Cannons faced off.  The Pirates earned the victory 7-1 over the Cannons, thus setting up the match-up next Saturday night between the Pirates and Deltas.

WEST DEFEATS EAST IN 2012 SVABL ALL-STAR GAME IN DELTAVILLE!!!!!!!!

The West defeated the East 16-0 tonight in the 11th annual SVABL All-Star game in Deltaville.  Tonight's game featured a lot of excitement, including a Grand Slam home run by Dion Wilder of the Cannons.  Devorn Lake of the Pirates hit two opposite field home runs.  This year's Home Run Derby champion, Justin Belvin, of the Pirates also hit a home run in the All-Star game.  Ryan Wiggins of the Deltas provided a lot of excitement as he broke up the no-hitter that Daniel Lutz of the Pirates had in the bottom of the seventh inning with two outs as he stroked a single past a diving Dion Wilder of the Cannons at third base.  Lutz would finish the inning after giving up another hit to capture the complete game victory & the 2012 SVABL All-Star game MVP for his impressive performance.  This marks the second year in a row that both the Home Run Derby champion & All-Star game MVP have been from the same team.  The SVABL would like to thank all of the volunteers that enabled this year's festivities to be a success, especially considering the rain that threatened to wash out everything.

BELVIN TAKES HOMERUN DERBY CROWN IN DELTAVILLE!!!!!!!!

Justin Belvin of the Pirates began an exciting night in Deltaville by capturing the 2012 SVABL Home run Derby championship tonight at Deltaville Ballpark.  After Lee Rossi of the Pirates set the pace in the beginning of the derby with four home runs, Brendan Craft of the 61's knocked five home runs out of the park.  Justin took full advantage of his opportunity when it was his turn, sending six home runs out to take the lead.  This would hold up as Travis Crump of the Deltas sent five home runs out but fell just short as Belvin captured the crown.  Congratulations Justin on a great performance!!!!!!!!

PIRATES DEFEAT CARDINALS 5-3 TO CAPTURE 2011 SVABL CHAMPIONSHIP!!!!!!!!

The 10th season of the SVABL concluded today at Captains Park on the campus of Christopher Newport University in a day of great baseball.  After being rained out Saturday night the Cardinals defeated the Cannons 6-4 in a tightly contested contest, enabling the Cardinals to advance to the championship game to face the Pirates.  The Cardinals jumped out early on the Pirates to take a 2-0 lead in the 1st inning.  The Pirates got one run back in the bottom of the 1st inning.  The Pirates tied it up in the bottom of the 5th inning & went ahead 3-2 in the bottom of the 7th inning.  That lead was short lived as the Cardinals tied it up at 3-3 in the top of the 8th inning.  In the bottom of the 8th inning the Pirates responded with two runs to go up 5-3 & that's how the game ended.  The Pirates captured their third title in the 10 year history of the SVABL, trailing only the Gloucester Astros, who have captured four SVABL titles.  We'd like to thank everyone for allowing us to have what was probably the most competitive season yet in the history of the SVABL.
