ABOUT SYB PROGRAMS

SYB is a volunteer, non-profit organization serving children in grades 3 through 8 residing in Sutton. We offer a Recreational league, Travel Teams, and a Summer League. We are dedicated to providing a safe environment in which kids can learn and enjoy the game of basketball. We encourage and emphasize good sportsmanship, the development of individual skills and the importance of teamwork.

RECREATION LEAGUE

ELIGIBILTY:  Sutton resident Boys and Girls in grades 3 thru 8.

COACHES: all coaches are volunteer. High school basketball players are active in the coaching of the league.

GOALS: The recreation league is an instructional environment. The goal of this program is for the players to have fun while learning, improving and refining the skills of basketball. This is accomplished by using appropriate games and activities.

REGISTRATION: Forms are available online for the upcoming season. Walkons are welcome.

FEES: Registration fees are $40 for each child. These fees go towards rental of the gyms and other miscellaneous expenses.

GAMES: Our season starts in early January and runs thru February. Games are played on Saturdays between 8 AM and 5 PM. Usually teams practice for 30 minutes prior to their scheduled game. We have limitations on facitlity usage due to weather and High School activities, so please check the website for schedule changes throughout the season.

PRACTICES: Teams will participate in skills practice followed by an instructional scrimmage with the other team that is practicing at the same time The instructional game is low key and lots of fun. The coaches stop the teams to help players with whatever comes up to improve the game.

UNIFORMS: Reversible Green and White Jerseys are required for play and are available for $10 each. The same jersey can be worn at other internal Sutton Youth Basketball programs. Please order oversized so players can get more than one season out of the jerseys

GYMS: All games and practice are at either Sutton Romansco High School Gym, Sutton Historical Gym (old gym) or at the Sutton Elementary School gym.

REFEREES: The referees are comprised of high school student athletes and volunteers.

WINTER TRAVEL LEAGUE TRAVEL TEAMS PLAYERS

Eligibility:  There are Girls teams for each of grades 5 thru 8. There are Boys teams for each of grades 4 thru 8.  Must be Sutton resident.

COACHES: All coaches are volunteer.

GOALS: The travel teams play in the competitive SCMYBL. There is one team per each grade. Again it is an instructional environment, teaching the kids the fundamentals of basketball in structured games and practices.

TRYOUTS: Formal tryouts are held for each team in October. 

FEES: Fees will be announced for each player. These fees go towards uniforms, referees, insurance and rental of the gyms.

GAMES: There are 12 games mainly on Sundays, starting the Sunday after Thanksgiving. The teams travel to surrounding communities each week for their games. The season ends in February with playoffs for teams that qualify.

PRACTICES: Teams practice two times each week as gym space and coaches dictate.

UNIFORMS: Each player will purchase their own uniform and be responsible to care for their own uniform.  It is the goal of the program to maintain the same uniform style for several years. 

GYMS: the home games for the 2014-15 season will be held at the Sutton Elementary gym or the Whitinsville community center.

REFEREES: The referees are provided by the South Central Massachusetts Youth Basketball League.

SUMMER COED LEAGUE PLAYERS

Eligibility: Boys and Girls for grades 3 thru 8 residing in Sutton.

COACHES All coaches are volunteer. High school basketball players are active in the coaching of the league.

GOALS: The Summer League is an instructional environment, teaching the kids the fundamentals of basketball in the structure of games and practices.

REGISTRATION: Forms are available online for the upcoming season. Walkons are welcome on TBD.

FEES: Registration fees are $20 for each player.

GAMES: The players are divided into teams and play 2 games each week, beginning in July. The season runs approximately 6 weeks.

PRACTICES: There are no practices, fun games only.

UNIFORMS: Green and White reversible jerseys can be purchased for $10 each from the league. These jerseys can be worn for other internal Sutton Youth Basketball programs, like the winter recreation league. So, please order the jerseys a bit oversize so they can be worn for a couple seasons.The jerseys will be available for pickup on the first night of games.

GYMS: All games are outdoors at the courts in front of the Sutton High School.

REFEREES: The referees are comprised of high school student athletes and volunteers.

3RD and 4th GRADERS: There is an all instructional clinic prior to the summerleague games, usually starting around 5pm. The goal of this instructional basketball program is for the children to have fun while they learn the skills of basketball. This is accomplished by using developmentally appropriate games and activities.
