Surprise Volleyball Academy: Coaches
Club Director, Coach Jimmie Beard
Club Director, Coach Jimmie is heading into his 4th year as club Director and is going into his 6th season coaching for Surprise Volleyball Academy.
Prior to his involvement in SVA, he has been playing and coaching various youth and adult sports programs at a competitive level for over 20 years.
Jimmie is currently the Head Coach for the freshman team at Valley Vista High School. Previously he was the Head Coach at Paradise Honors High School. He has attended the USA Volleyball Increased Mastery of Professional Application of Coaching Theory (IMPACT) course in November of 2007 and the USA Volleyball Coaching Accreditation Program (CAP) Level One course in July 2008, and is scheduled to attend the CAP Level Two course in the near future. He has also recently taken and successfully completed the National Federation of State High School Associations, Coaching Fundamentals and Concussion in Sports courses.
Jimmie's first year of playing competitive level volleyball, he played collegiate club level volleyball in Germany from 1983 through 1986 while serving in the military. While there he enjoyed two seasons the Hanau Hornets, winning the V Corps Championships in 1985, and one season with the Frankfurt Falcons who qualified for and placed third in the United States Army Europe (USAEUR) Championships in 1986, while playing second setter and defensive specialist. He also played and coached his intramural volleyball team in the off season and led them thru two undefeated seasons. Jimmie was approached and offered a contract to play with a German Semi–Professional team, but passed up the offer in order to keep his amateur status. Playing and coaching continued upon returning to the United States which led to several undefeated seasons for his travel team playing throughout the Southeast.
Upon moving to the Phoenix valley in 1994, Jimmie continued to volunteer his time towards coaching and teaching youth sports, which included, baseball, softball, soccer, football, martial arts, and of course, volleyball. He continues to lead athletes to achieve their fullest potential.

Assistant Director, 17s Ambush Coach Vicki Turrell
Assistant Director, Coach Vicki Turrell is going into her 3rd year with SVA and has over 20 years of coaching experience with grade levels ranging from 6th through college age players. Recently she had led the SVA 18s Ambush to a silver medal finish in the USAV AZ Region 18s Championship Gold Division and looks to add another great season to her resume this year. Prior to last few seasons Coach Vicki put together a highly competitive 16’s team in the Goodyear area for Arrowhead Volleyball Club. She has had the pleasure of coaching the number one team in Arizona for the 12’s in 2008. She has been the 13-2’s coach and an assistant coach for the 12's team for Arrowhead Volleyball Club for six years. She is CAP 1 and IMPACT certified. Coach Vicki is the former head coach for the Millennium Tigers for seven seasons. She resigned from the position to spend more time with her own kids. Not only has she had several winning seasons, she has turned Millennium High School into one of the top teams in the state of Arizona during her reign. Millennium was Region Champs the last 5 of her 7 years and consistently made a showing in state playoffs. In 2005, the MHS team finished fifth overall in the 4A State Division I Tournament and in 2004 the team finished in the top 4.

16-1s Rage, Coach Kristy Herrington
Kristy is going into her 3rd year coaching with SVA. She played 7 seasons of club volleyball starting at the age of 12 along with 4 years at Deer Valley High School and 4 years at Western New Mexico University. Kristy was twice selected to the Arizona USAV High Performance Team and also played for Deer Valley during 2 of the seasons they were Nationally Ranked. In 2002 and 2003, she was an All-Region player and she was an All-State selection in 2003 as well. She left Deer Valley holding the season kill record and went on to play for a very successful collegiate program. At WNMU she was part of 2 Conference Championships and was the starting right-side for WNMU’s first ever trip to the NCAA Regional Championship in 2005. WNMU returned to the NCAA DII Regional Championship in 2006 as well for only the second time in school history. Kristy has coached numerous camps both locally and at WNMU and has been the JV Coach at Valley Vista for the last 4 seasons. She has also been the Assistant Coach for Valley Vista Boys Volleyball.

16-2s Warriors Coach Erin Trueblood
SVA welcomes Erin Trueblood to her first year coaching with SVA. Erin's previous experience include being a volleyball camp director, coaching high school, junior high school and club volleyball.
Erin's playing experience from 2002-2006 was playing for Jacksonville University, which is in the NCAA Division I, Atlantic Sun Conference and located in Jacksonville Florida
Her college volleyball accomplishments were:
- Set university record for career and single match assists
- 4 Year started
- Most valuable player 2004
- Highest GPA for Female Student-Athletes 2006
- Atlantic Sun Academic All-conference 2002-2006
- Second-Team ESPN the Magazine Academic All-District Honors 2005
Her accomplishments at Cardinal Mooney High School in Sarasota FL were:
- Inducted into Cardinal Mooney High School Hall of Fame
- First team All-State 1999, 2000
- Second team All-State 2001
- Most Valuable Player 2001

14-1s Krush, Coach Dave Chavez
David Chavez is going into his 3rd year coaching with SVA. Dave is a graduate of Arizona State University and has been playing volleyball for 18+ years. Dave spent the last two high school seasons serving as Willow Canyon's Junior Varsity coach. Coach Chavez has played USVA Club Volleyball from 1996 – 1998 for Club Borderline. In addition to playing in the USVA AZ Region he has has since played in the Glendale, Surprise and Phoenix competitive leagues for about 17 years. In the 2011 USAV AZ Region season, his first season with SVA, Coach Dave lead his 13s Synergy team to a silver medal in the 14AA Gold Division.
