Bravery for Avery
Avery and Team
Surf City Cheer is a strong supporter of the community and in charitable events. Several times a year we participate in events and involve the teams in community service projects to give back, in hope that they will learn the value and reward of this work.

On Memorial Day, Surf City Cheer participated in the "Avery Day Fundraiser & Dodge Ball Tournament" at Newhope Gymnastics. The fundraiser, for Avery, a 4 year old sweetheart from Huntington Beach, CA who was diagnosed with Pre-B Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia on April 15, 2008.

Avery is being treated at CHOC (Children's Hospital of Orange County) and while her prognosis is very good, they have about a 95% CURE rate for this type of cancer in kids her age, she faces over 2 solid years of chemotherapy, treatments and procedures.

Many local area business participated in this event donating items for a silent auction and raffles to raise money to help with her medical expenses, it was estimated that $30,000 was raised.

People from all over have come together to support Avery and her family during this difficult time, but Avery will be undergoing treatment until August 2010 - and her family still needs your support!

Click on "Bravery for Avery" and it will take you to the website to lend your support!

Surf City ANIMALS Participates with “Charger Girls” to Raise Money in MAKE-A-WISH Fundraiser

Fernie B., Hannah K., Sarah R., and Shea F., all participated in the Make-A-Wish Fundraiser with the 2008-2009 San Diego Charger Girls, becoming Jr. Charger Girls, going beyond the minimum of $175 sponsor pledge each, raising almost $1000.00 between the four of them.

This was their chance to be a part of a halftime show with the San Diego Charger Girls and give back to the wonderful Community of San Diego. Over 200 participants age seven to fifteen had the opportunity to perform in front of 65,000+ fans at the Chargers home game on November 9th against the Kansas City Chiefs. Not only did they learn from the NFL's Best Cheerleaders, they helped raise money to help thousands of San Diegans in need. Each performer raised a minimum of $175 in sponsor pledges. The money raised helps support the Make-A-Wish Foundation and Chargers Community Foundation.

Make-A-Wish is dedicated to granting special wishes of children between 2 1/2 and 18 years of age who suffer from life-threatening illnesses. Make-A-Wish believes all children deserve both hope and happiness. Wishes provide a welcome respite from the stress that illnesses place on children and their families, and create lasting, precious memories for the future.

The Chargers Community Foundation assists many causes critical to their community. Whether it’s providing over $2 million dollars in fitness grants to schools or scholarships through the Chargers Champions program or helping the less fortunate every week through the homeless outreach program the San Diego Chargers are ready to reach out a helping hand. The Foundation’s major focus is on programs and issues affecting the youngest members of our community.

The girls not only had an incredible performance, but were unbelievable, showing their commitment to community service.

All of us at Surf City Cheer are extremely proud of our young ladies, not just for their performance, but for their commitment to community service. SCCA plans to continue participating in this yearly event.

SURF CITY ANIMALS GO TO CAMP!
Everyone has a reason to be proud of the cheerleaders who attended camp the weekend of July 22-23, 2006. They withstood temperatures of 101 degrees to 107 degrees. Many awards were received by the team members and everyone had a lot of fun. Special thanks goes to Julie, Miranda's (from the Wahines team) mother, and Coach Jenni, for all of their help on Saturday and Sunday. I would also like to thank Anna and Gantry, Anysa's (from the Teenie Wahines team) mother and father, for inviting the team over to their home after camp on Sunday for some much needed pool time!

And last, thanks to all the parents who support the cheerleaders, they couldn't do this without YOU!

Don't forget to take a look at the pictures in the Album section!
