Surf White Boys Under-11 Accomplishments

In their first-year under coach Mike Nicholson and with over half of the players playing their first year with the team, Surf White developed from champions of Presidio AA-A to one of the better teams in Cal-South. In league play, Surf White adjusted quickly to the higher level of play and won the Presidio League AAA title. They finished the league only one tie and one loss, tying Aztecs on points and winning on head-to-head goal differential. In league play, Surf outscored its opponents 44 to 7.

For the complete season, Surf White won 32 matches, tied 6, and lost only 7 matches. Of those seven losses, six were to top sides in Cal-South, losing four times to Aztecs Premier (three times 0-1, the fourth in penalties), to Stampede SC (0-1), and to FC Barcelona (0-2). Over the entire season, Surf White outscored its opponents 105 to 30.

Surf White Begin U-11 Campaign
Albion Cup
Surf White begins their U-11 campaign this weekend at the Albion Cup, and they will begin the season facing many of their league opponents. Surf open with group matches on Saturday against two AAA teams, PQ Premier Red and Notts Forest Red.

If Surf is able to finish first or second in their group, they will play in the semifinals against Nomads, Sharks, or another AAA team, Crusaders.

Surf Win Twice at Pegasus Cup
Pegasus Cup
Surf White recorded its first two wins of the new campaign and finished second in its group at Pegasus Cup this weekend. Competing a year up in age, Surf was able to dominate FC Murrieta to open the tournament and concluded the tournament by coming from behind to defeat Pegasus. In between, Surf fell to a strong, older CV Rangers team.

In its first game of the weekend, Surf scored early and often, leading 8-0 at the half and cruising to a 9-0 final score. Showing its depth, Surf recorded goals from seven different players and scored in many different ways, including free kicks and header goals.

In its second game on Saturday, Surf fell to the eventual tournament winner, CV Rangers. A BU12 for the upcoming season, CV Rangers broke through early to take the lead, but Surf gained their footing and held the Rangers for the remainder of the half. Rangers extended their lead through a period of good pressure, scoring three quick goals in a five minute span, but again, Surf steadied itself and held Rangers scoreless the remainder of the game. Despite the disappointment of the lopsided scoreline, this result against the younger Surf side was the closest match Rangers faced all weekend.

With winning the group and advancing to the semifinals out of reach, Surf played for pride against their third consecutive older team. Despite creating several good chances early, Surf White found themselves behind 1-0 after Pegasus was awarded – and converted – a penalty kick midway through the first half. Surf would even the scoreline before halftime with good buildup and a well-placed shot. After the half, Surf’s hard work would be rewarded. Pegasus succumbed to the pressure and scored an own goal and Surf secured the victory with a third goal.
