Welcome to the U-13 Metro SurDel Sting team website for the 2011/12 season. The team will be hitting the training pitch in late July in preparation for their trip to Portland, Oregon to play in the Chinook Cup. Once they return they will be getting back into training as well as working out with core conditioning coach Michelle Roots thru August in preparation for the Labour Day Tournament in September. The players have worked hard to get to this point and look to continue that hard work as they develop their skills against some tough competition. They are a great bunch of dedicated kids and we are sure they will have a great learning experience and a lot of fun along the way. Go Sting!!!

After last weekends scrappy road match the Sting were back in action against a strong and very large Richmond Force squad. The Force have not given up many goals this season and their big, strong and mobile backfield is a pretty good indication why. While the Sting did a great job of maintaining their shape and limiting chances for the Richmond squad at the other end, the Sting were frustrated in trying to break down their opponents defense. This frustration resulted in little chances on net in the first. Hailey made a beautiful pass down the right for Rav to carry into the eighteen with. The hard low cross to the back post though was too far ahead of the surging midfielders. On a rare defensive error the Sting did not close down the space fast enough outside the eighteen and a splendid shot left Joven no chance as it went top corner for the opening goal of the match. The Sting were doing a great job however of putting pressure on the Force and making their defense work hard to clear which would pay off down the road. The last chance of the half fell to Hailey but her shot from twenty yards out was always sailing wide of the net. Score at the half Force 1 - Sting 0.
The second half saw the Sting take control of the match as their conditioning and Richmond not giving their defenders a rest would soon pay off. First off Brit spun and beat her check only to be mugged from behind with a yellow card being handed out for the brutal foul. Hailey stepped up for the free kick and put it on net where the keeper spilled it to Riley. Rileys shot was blocked by yet another handball in the box. After seeing two handballs in the first not being called another missed one frustrated the team as the ball was cleared. The Sting kept their composure though and were rewarded shortly after. Some nice passing up the middle of the field saw Patty and Hailey showing some good skill with a feeder pass to Brit at the edge of the eighteen. Brit's looping shot eluded the keeper and the defender as they all ended up in the net for the tying goal. The Sting kept pushing forward with some great passing in the midfield up to the attackers. On one of these nice passes Kylie carried into the eighteen and was about to shoot when she was hauled down from behind leaving the ref no choice but to point to the spot. Brit stepped up to take the penalty shot and beat the diving keeper low to the left corner to take the lead. A few minutes later and the Sting nearly had another. Jamie played a beautiful touch pass onto Rav's foot in full flight and the speed saw Rav beat her check and the booming shot from inside the eighteen stung the keepers hands but was kept out. The Sting werent going to be denied another goal though and this one came off a set piece. Riley, who dropped in several outstanding corners, took another corner and this one dropped right to Allie in the six yard box. After a short scramble Allie was able to prod the ball home for the insurance marker. The Sting came close once more as some nice give and go passing between Brit and Riley sprung Allie thru again but her shot was palmed away by the Force keeper. A tale of two halves but the Sting were fully deserving of the spoils and with the victory secured first place in Group A. Final score Richmond Force 1 - Sting 3. The Sting's last League match of the season will see them wrap things up against Guildofrd next weekend in a make up match from the recent snow out. Once that match is over the team will await the Leagues championship playoff format prior to Spring break and Coastal Cup playoffs which will start in April. Go Sting!!

After last weekend's snow out the Sting were on the road for their first of three matches to close out the League schedule. First up was a tricky match against Vancouver FC in the shadow of BC Place stadium. In a funny match where the Sting never really got into sync they still managed to nick all three points from this contest. The match started with the Sting back on their heels a bit as their opponents took the match to them for the first ten minutes. The Sting's first effort on goal though, summed up the day as finishing their chances made the match much closer than it should have been. Kass did a great job of beating her check to the ball and her long range effort from twenty yards out was well blocked. The rebound fell to Skye but her chip on the edge of the six yard box sailed over the cross bar. Meg and Logan then teamed up on a nice give and go but Meg's shot from just inside the eighteen curled wide of the post. The Sting had better luck off a corner kick as Brit's looping cross saw Vancouver fail to clear and Kylie was on the spot to chip the ball over the keeper for the lead. Kylie had another decent chance a few minutes later as her booming left footer from twenty five yards out saw the keeper make a splendid save. With the half time whistle looming the Sting struck again with an insurance marker. Armani did well in the middle of the field to take the ball around her mark and play a wonderful thru pass from centre to the left side of the field for Riley to run onto on a breakaway. With the Vancouver defender starting to close her down, Riley's hard low left footed shot from just outside the eighteen beat the keeper on the short side for the Sting's second goal. Score at the half Vancouver FC 0 - Sting 2.
The Sting opened up the second much brighter than they started the first as some good ball movement started to show itself in fits and starts and clearly had their opponents off balance. Inside of ten minutes Allie found herself on the end of three nice thru passes but the shots were either wide or well saved, much to her frustration. So it was off a scramble that Vancouver made things interesting as a cruel deflection saw and own goal cut the lead in half. Vancouver made it interesting but the Sting defence stood tall once more and in fact the Sting had the best late chance in the half. Rav made a beautiful run down the right side and her fantastic cross to the far post saw Skye climb for the ball but the header went wide of the post. Score at the final whistle Vancouver FC 1 - Sting 2. A tenth consecutive victory for the team but they will be looking to improve on their performance next weekend as the Sting head off to Richmond on Sunday. Go Sting!!
