George E. Koontz is the founder of the Chattanooga Cyclones, President of Chattanooga Cyclones Baseball, Inc., General Manager of all the Cyclones' teams and Head Coach of the Chattanooga Collegiate Cyclones and 18U Fall Chattanooga Cyclones. He has previously served as the President of the 13-14-year old and then the 15-18-year old age group at the East Brainerd Youth Association, Chattanooga's largest youth baseball association, and served as President of the Greater Chattanooga Amateur Baseball Association for 5 years. He is the majority owner and chief operating officer of the Real Sports Academy. He formed the original Fall League in the Chattanooga area in 1994 and has coached over 950 games at the select summer and fall and/ or summer college baseball level. He was a charter member of the Southeastern Championship Series Board of Directors, a co-founder of the law firm of Kennedy, Koontz & Farinash and has served as an Adjunct Professor of Political Science at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga. In 2006 he received the Guy Francis Award from the Chattanooga Times-Free Press for the "sports person who goes the extra mile" in helping local high school athletes. He has coached 215 players who have earned college scholarships through the program, including players who have signed and/or played at 8 of the 12 SEC schools and several who have been college All-Americans, and 42 who have been drafted professionally and/or played professional baseball, including a first-rounder, 2 supplemental first-round draft picks, a 2nd round pick and several others who have been drafted in the top 8 rounds including 2 who have played in the major leagues. In 2009 there were 8 former Cyclones still playing professional baseball.
