Sunfire does well in ASA Fiesta De Tucson Tournament
The 16U Sunfire tied for 4th place at the ASA Fiesta De la Tucson tournament. The Sunfire won 2 pool games against the Avalanche and Aztecs before losing to the eventual tournament champion Pure Lightning in bracket play. In the game against the Lightning, the Sunfire surrendered 2 runs in the top of the first inning but made a statement in the bottom of the first when they exploded for 5 and a 5-2 lead to let the Lightning know they were in a dogfight. The game was still tied at 5 in the 5th inning and was 6-5 with the Lightning leading in the 6th before they pulled away to win.
Overall, a nice tournament ladies. Keep up the hard work and continue playing as a 'team'!!

Sunfire finishes 2nd at USSSA Labor Day 16U/18U tournament
The 16U Sunfire had a great tournament and finished 2nd at the USSSA Labor DayTournament. The team played in a combined 16U/18U bracket.
The 16U Sunfire played their first ever games together and defeated both 18U teams they played on bracket day. That day started with the 16U Sunfire outlasting the 18U Chandler Sting 9-8 in 10 innings in a very exciting game. The Teams went back and forth the whole game and the Sting left the bases loaded to end the game.
Next up for the Sunfire was the 18U Elite. Deanna pitched a great game and Sunfire pushed across a small ball run to win 1-0 in another great game.
The Sunfire lost in the title game 2-0 to the Impulse but showed they were going to be a formitable opponent for anyone. The team played 24 innings in 3 games in 105 degree temperatures. Great job ladies!!

Special Guests for AZ Sunfire !
The Arizona Sunfire players, parents and coaching staff received a special visit by Olympic Gold Medalists Tairia Mims-Flowers and Natasha Watley before their practice Wednesday February 15. Tairia & Natasha were in Tucson to practice with the USA National Team that week at Hillenbrand Stadium on the U of A Campus. Tairia & Natasha spoke to the Sunfire players and parents on their hard work, teamwork, sacrifices and commitment they both have endured in their softball careers in making their dreams come true. After speaking to the team, Tairia & Natasha took even more time in their busy schedule to take pictures with each individual player, team picture and also signed autographs as well.
To Tairia & Natasha,
We want to Thank you from our hearts for taking time in your busy schedule to speak to our players and parents. Your words do make a difference.
Thank You Coach Trinidad
Fruits of Coaching
Coach Trinidad is currently coaching in his 25th year of girls Fast pitch softball. Starting in 1983 at El Rio Bobby Sox in Tucson, AZ. There he coached many young girls on regular season teams as well as All star teams. "In all the years of coaching Bobby Sox, ASA and High School, all I have are memories of teaching young ladies the game of softball. Many go on to play in college/accept a scholarship for a another sport or pursue their college education through academics. They always reminisce of playing the team sport of softball as an experience they never forget."
One of the many special young ladies that coach Trinidad had the pleasure of teaching the game of softball is Tairia Flowers. At first a young Tairia (a native Tucsonan) began her softball career in the outfield. But that was just not suited for her, she needed to stay busy. That year our team needed a catcher, so Tairia volunteered, thus starting a her career. She excelled at position and made the roster to the All star teams for the next 4 years. Notice was taken by an Elite ASA team called the 14U Arizona Cats at the time coched by Clark Enterline & Gale Bundrick. She stayed in the Cats organization through the 16u team playing for Mel Byrge. She then was recruited by the Phoenix Storm, played for Rick Beach, and excelled there. Tairia eventually was offered a scholarship to attend UCLA. She made the Womens Olympic teams and played in many parts of the world. Her determination, dedication and just being a great young lady eventually paid off as she now is an Olympic Gold Medalists for the USA Olympic softball team. What a great accomplishment for her, If there was ever a role model that young softball players should follow, it IS Tairia Flowers.
Congratulations T ... for winning the GOLD at the Olympics in Athens and Silver in Bejing!
We are all BLESSED to know you
Lots of Love T ... Coach Trinidad
