On May 28th, 2011 the St. Croix Track Club attended the 20th BayTaff Classic Track & Field meet in Tampa, FL. with a total of 15 athletes. The team accumulated 187 points to win their category by only three points. In addition, Malique Smith earned the Most Valuable Athlete award for placing 1st in three events and 4th in another. There were 17 teams in their category, which included teams from the Bahamas, Georgia, and throughout Florida. The meet director, Nate Johnson, said that this is the first time in the 20 year history of the event that a trophy was won by a team coming from the Islands. He said, “I am pleased to see this finally occur.” This victory was a total team effort as the Mustangs scored points in a very wide variety of Track & Field events from sprints, distance, throws, and jumps. Once you made it to the finals, you can score points and the Mustangs made it to the finals 30 times. This meant that you could earn 1 to 10 points according to the place that you finished. St. Croix Track Club is thankful to God, our parents, athletes, and sponsors for assisting in making this possible.
