STUNNERZ RANKED #1 IN STATE!

STUNNERZ BLAST BALZ-OUT FOR USSSA 2005 SEASON-FINALE CHAMPIONSHIP

The Stunnerz Youth Baseball Titans won 5 games over the weekend, and beat Balz-Out Baseball of Rodeo in the Championship Game by a score of 8-6. Balzout scored two late runs to make the final score close, but the Stunner boys controlled the game from the start with massive homeruns by Coley Crank, Donald Walter, and Blaine Johnson. Pitching gems by David Peterson, Jeff Mason, and David Hurlbut shut down Balz-Out, as Peterson and Hurlbut pitched a scoreless 6th and 7th inning for the win.

STUNNERZ YOUTH BASEBALL: Bigger than the game!

Stunnerz Youth Baseball has provided an option for inner city youth of West Contra Costa County, to excel at the highest level of competitive youth baseball.  The term "inner city" usually conjures up images of dilapidated buildings on crime-ridden streets, and when referring to "inner city youth", most think of kids that have nothing else to do but hang around on those streets and get into trouble.

Rob Barquis had a different idea.  His inner city image is filled with well-read youngsters spending their extra time on the local ball fields, grooming themselves for successful careers and lives.  Born in Oakland,  and raised in the rough "iron triangle" of Richmond, California, Rob witnessed first-hand, how very few opportunities were available for the youth of his neighborhood, including the chance to compete at the highest level of youth baseball.

In 2001, he founded STUNNERZ YOUTH BASEBALL. Since 2002, SYB has competed in tournaments throughout the state of California, winning State Championships with USSSA and Super Series Baseball.  With the help and generosity of local business like Kaiser and Richmond Sanitary, they have also been able to take their talents throughout the country, competing in the most prestigious national youth baseball tournaments.

But it's about more than baseball.  The program has a readership program that requires players to read an hour a day, and brings in guest motivational speakers, not only from the sports world, but from the world of business, to speak to about their thoughts on success.  In addition to its self-empowerment programs, SYB also promotes team activities with volunteer events and community outreach programs at various levels.  SYB is proud to announce that many of our former players have been able to take what they have learned with us to D1 College programs, and continue to work towards having successful lives, and being active in the community.

We cherish the business community’s assistance to allow our program to be a success.

STUNNERZ WIN 3RD TOURNEY OF THE FALL 2005 SEASON

The Stunnerz continued their domination of the fall 2005 season by going undefeated on Sunday, hammering the Benicia Rebels in the semi-finals 7-1, and then blasting St. Francis of Los Gatos 10-1.

Sterling Moore was tourney MVP, and Jeremy Barquis banged the ball around the yard with two triples, a double, 6 hits, 5 runs scored, and 3 stolen bases on Sunday alone. Moore and Barquis also teamed up to turn many double plays to kill rallies. The duo was the same that were in the double-digits with rolling two in 2002 at COOPERSTOWN DREAMS PARK in Cooperstown, New York. Modesto Martinez pitched a gem versus the Rebels, and Richie Gallob followed that up with a flawless performance in the title game. Gallob also pitched a no-hitter on Saturday.

The Stunner boys continue in two weeks, and will play in Las Vegas on Halloween weekend.

SYB OPENS WOOD BAT TOURNEY WITH A NO-HITTER

The SYB Titans Red opened the USSSA NORCAL WOODBAT TOURNAMENT in Woodland by defeating North Coast Baseball by a score of 11-0. The Titans were led on offense by Jeremy Barquis, who went 2 for 2 with a triple, an RBI and two runs scored, Coley Crank who went 2 for 3 with two runs scored, Will Bourgein who walked, doubled, scored one run, and had two rbi, and by David Hurlbut who had two rbi and homered.

Hurlbut also combined with Jeff Mason for the slaughter-rule shortened no-hitter. Hurlbut struck out 3, and threw just 28 pitches. Mason was just as masterful, striking out 3 as well over the final 3 innings, while throwing 29 pitches.

The no-hit gem was supported by dazzling defensive plays by Nic Fong, who made the most out of the few times that North Coast Baseball was able to put the ball in play.

SYB will play as many as three games on Sunday.

STUNNERZ YOUTH BASEBALL BLAST THE OAKLAND OAKS

The SYB Titans crushed the Oakland Oaks 15u team in the semi-finals of the USSSA 4th of July National Quaifier in Davis, CA. The Titans used timely hitting, and an awesome pitching performance by Tom Gale to shut out the Oaks, eliminating them from the tourney.
(more to come...)

SYB STUNS NORCAL WITH WIN!

The STUNNERZ YOUTH BASEBALL Titans opened the BATTLE OF THE BAY 16u TOURNAMENT with a 6 to 4 win over the Norcal Carinal 16u team. In a game that was dominated by SYB from the start, the Titans played a near-perfect game, with great defense and pitching, backed up with web gems and an absolute clinic at the plate! Norcal, known as the premiere organization of travel baseball, has three teams in the BATTLE OF THE BAY TOURNEY, a 15u team, and two 16u teams. The Titans, who are a 15u team, sparkled with masterful pitching by Ethan Delano, great hitting by Jeremy Barquis, JR Graham, Coley Crank, and Blaine Johnson, and defensive gems by Tom Wraith, Alexander Menke, and Donald Walter.

The Titans will play the Sonoma County Rebels in the second game of the tourney on Saturday! Check back for game summaries.

SYB OPEN MEMORIAL DAY TOURNEY WITH TWO BLOW OUTS!

The SYB Titans opened up the SAC COUNTY MEMORIAL DAY CHALLENGE TOURNAMENT with a pair of blow outs, winning the opener 9-0 versus Danville, and 12-0 versus Rohnert Park. They will play the final pool play game on Sunday versus Stockton, then continue their championship run. CHECK BACK LATER FOR UPDATES, SUMMARIES, AND HIGHLIGHTS....

STUNNERZ GO UNDEFEATED AT TWIN CREEKS

The West Side Stunnerz  went undefeated, and dominated the opposition in their first action of the 2005 season at the 15u USSSA National Qualifier Tournament at Twin Creeks Sports Complex in Sunnyvale, California. The tourney win qualifies the Stunnerz for the USSSA NATIONAL TOURNEY AT DISNEY WORLD IN Orlando, Florida this summer.

STUNNERZ TAKE FOURTH IN SS NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS!

image_name2
The West Side Stunnerz came into the double-elimination rounds with the number one seed out of the 22 teams in the tournament, after going a perfect 3 and 0 in pool play.

They began pool play on Monday by blasting the Arizona Toros, one of the top teams in the host state, by a score of 13-0. Marcus Semien pitched a gem, striking out 4, while giving up only three hits! The Stunner boys were led on offense by Jeremy Barquis, who went 4 for 4 with a double and 3 runs scored. Coley Crank went 2 for 3 with a big triple that scored Barquis and Chucky Cavestany, and Semien had a two-run triple as well the next inning, scoring Barquis and Cavestany to put the game away!

In game two of pool play, the Stunnerz faced the Escondido Heat. A highly successful team from the San Diego area. The Stunnerz continued to bang. Barquis started the game off with a walk, and stole second on the very next pitch. On pitch number two, Cavestany stroked a line-drive single to center, and scored on the second triple in as many games for Crank, making the score 2-0 after one full inning. David Marquez went 2 for 3, and Victor Faria had a big base knock for the Stunnerz. Marquez and Cody Cox combined on the hill for the 8 - 2 win, striking out 5, and walking only 3.

In the final pool play game, the Stunnerz faced the Inola Indians from Oklahoma. The Indians were the state champs from the Okie state, but the Stunnerz were ready to show the definition of Stunner-Style Gone Wild! The West Side Connection hammered out 13 runs in the first inning alone, sending 18 batters to the plate. Kyle Azi had a key single to drive in runs, and Brandon Donohue hit a shot to right field for a double, and later scored on a sacrifice by Bobby Morgan. Victor Faria led the offensive barrage, going 2 for 2, with two rbi, and a run scored. On the bump, Manny Lopez pitched a masterpiece, giving up only three hits, and the Stun Gang was perfect at 3 wins and no losses in pool play, and the number one seed. More impressive was the fact that the Stunnerz committed no errors during pool play. NOT ONE!

The Stunnerz advanced to the double elimination rounds, drawing the ACA Titans of Southern California. The Titans were simply no match, as the West Side boys pounded out 16 runs, sending the Titans home with a 16 to 0 slaughter-shortened barrage. Cody Cox and David Gray combined for a no-hitter, and all was good in Stunnerland.

Next draw featured the El Paso Outsiders from Texas. Both teams were fired up, as they played in the main stadium of the Peoria Sports Complex, home of the San Diego Padres and the Seattle Mariners during the spring. The Stunnerz hit several balls hard, but they seemed to be right at guys. After several innings of close baseball, the Outsiders pulled away in the later innings and handed the Stunnerz their first loss of the tournament by a score of 8-1.

Now one loss away from being eliminated, the Stunnerz put on an impressive run. They would have to play 2 or 3 games per day to get to the championship game, as the loss to the El Paso team really put them in a tuff spot. Still, the Stunnerz were anxious to get back out there and ball. They had a huge chip on their shoulder, and was ready to take things out on La Quinta, a team from Southern California. The Stunnerz came out focused, and with tenacity, blasting the team from La Quinta with a 12 to 3 spanking, sending them back home to Palm Springs.

The Stunnerz suddenly started to enjoy their role of THE ELIMINATOR, sending home each team that they beat in the elimination losers bracket. Next on their list were the Dallas Tigers from Texas. After jumping out to a big 7-1 lead, the game was delayed due to a sprinkler malfunction. The delay lasted over 20 minutes, and cooled down the hot Stunnerz enough to let Dallas sneak back in it. Due to darkness, the game had to be moved to another field with lights, and the Stunnerz held on for a 9 to 7 win, sending the Tigers back to the Lone Star State!

Next on the hit list for the Stunnerz was the only Arizona team to still be alive, a team called ARIZONA'S FINEST. The Stunnerz made them look like Arizona's weakest, demolishing them 14 to 6.

That brought a rematch with the only team to beat the Stunnerz in the National Championship tourney, the El Paso Outsiders. At gametime, which was 5:00pm on Friday, July 30th, the temperature read A SIZZLING 113 DEGREES! That wasn't the only thing that was scorching hot, as the Stunnerz came out in the first inning banging! Jeremy Barquis led things off with a stand-up triple off of the 385 foot mark in right center field. After a walk to Chucky Cavestany, Coley Crank blasted a double to left. Cody Cox followed two batters later with a double of his own, and Manny Lopez singled to drive in another run. The Stunnerz led 4-0 after their first at-bat, and went on to score a dozen, but could not hold the lead. After a great game, they dropped the chance for revenge by a score of 12-13.

The Stunnerz loaded the bases up in the last inning, with the tying run on 3rd and the go-ahead run on second, and only one out. At the plate was their clean-up batter, followed by one of the hottest hitters of the tourney in Cody Cox in the 5-spot. After a strike out and a ground out, the stunnerz were headed home, losing to the only team to beat them in the tourney for the second time.

Hoping for a chance to play the Clovis Fire, a team that they had split with during the 2004 season, winning one and losing one, the stunner boys could not get by the team from El Paso to make the tie-breaker game a possibility.

El Paso ended up dropping the semi-final game to the San Diego Sting the next day, as their coach said that they simply had nothing left after playing the Stunnerz the night before. Clovis went on to beat the Sting for the national championship title. Congrats to Clovis! We look forward to playing you guys in the near future to break our tie!!!!

THANKS FOR A GREAT SEASON STUNNERZ! SEE YA IN THE FALL!

LET'S GO STUNNER STYLE BABY ! ! !

STUNNERZ GET PERFECT GAME!

David Marquez, Marcus Semien, and Blaine Johnson combined for a perfect game no-hitter, as the West Side Stunnerz blanked the El Cerrito Red Sox 16-0.  Great plays by second baseman Louie Reyna and a nice job by catcher Mark Rovai behind the dish, helped seal the perfect game.  The game had additional sentimental value for Coach Rob Barquis, due to the fact that he coached the  El Cerrito Redsox back in 1990. That was his first coaching gig ever!

Way to go Stunna Boyz! Ooooooh Yeah!!!

"STUNNERZ TAKE SECOND IN NOR CAL CHAMPIONSHIPS"

The West Side Stunnerz continued their preparation for the Super Series National Championship Tournament later this month by taking second in the NorCal Championships in Marin and Sonoma Counties over the weekend. The tournament featured 3 of the top 10 teams in the state of California, as ranked by usasportsrankings.com. Two other teams, the Central Valley Thunder and Balz Out, opted to skip this tournament. The Thunder are currently playing in the 54/80 World Series in Dallas, Texas and Balz Out decided not to play because they were short on players.

The Stunnerz opened up the tournament with a one-run loss to the San Leandro Buccaneers, then went on a tear winning their next three games to advance to the championship game. In the semi-finals, the Stunnerz hammered the P-Town Players by a score of 17-0! Marcus Semien, Manny Lopez, and Jeremy Barquis combined for the shut-out. The Stunnerz ended the tourney scoring the most runs of any team, and also excelled on the bump with outstanding pitching performances by Semien, Lopez, Barquis, David Marquez and Cody Cox.

Now the stunnerz will use these next two weeks to prepare for the Super Series National Championship in Peoria, Arizona.
Let's go Stunnaaahz!

SYB TITANS SWEEP

The STUNNERZ YOUTH BASEBALL TITANS went a perfect 4 and 0, as they prepare for the SACRAMENTO COUNTY BASEBALL MEMORIAL DAY CLASSIC in ELK GROVE. The Titans took two nine-inning affairs from the Danville Diablos at Athenian High School on Saturday, May 21st, then followed that up with a couple of victories Sunday against the Albany Wildcats at Cougar Field in Albany.

The SYB Boyz got things started on Saturday, winning game one 15-3. In the top of the first, the SYB Titans erupted for 6 runs. Jeremy Barquis led things of with a base-hit, followed by 4 consecutive walks. After Seth French drew a free pass to plate Coley Crank with the second run of the inning, Kyle Azi was hit by a pitch to make the score 3-0. David Wirth paired up with David Peterson for quality innings on the bump, as the two allowed only 3 runs and only two hits in the first 3 innings of play, and nothing else for the last six innings of the game.

SYB was led on offense by Barquis, who went 3 for 5 with a HBP, a double, and 3 runs scored, as well as Crank, who scored three runs with 5 rbi, including a grand slam in the 5th inning. Nick Fong got things going in the inning with a big double, and Tom Wraith and Barquis were beaned back to back to load the bags for Crank who hit the first pitch he saw 320 feet into the beautiful Mt. Diablo sky. After back-to-back doubles in the 7th by Barquis and Crank, and some timely hitting, the Titans scored their fifteenth run in the inning and coasted to a 15-3 victory.

In game two the Titans played the 16u Diablos, and picked up where they left off with game one. The final score in game two was 5-4 SYB, but the game was never really close, and the Titans controlled it from the first pitch. SYB scored two runs with their first five batters of the game and never looked back. David Hurlbut was sensational versus the older Diablos, holding them scoreless through the first three innings. Ryan Grant also got some quality time on the hill, and after Brad Jones came in to stifle them with the knuckle ball, Crank was called on to get the final out to preserve the sweep. Crank recorded his first save of the season getting the final Diablo batter to pop up to Ryan Grant at first. Kevin Imprasueth drove in the final run of the game for the Titans with a solid base hit in the ninth, and the solid pitching continued from start to finish. Although they gave up 3 runs in the bottom of the ninth inning, SYB cruised without a challenge for the win.

On Sunday, the SYB Titans played a double-header with the Albany Wildcats. After three innings in game one, the teams were locked in a 1-0 pitcher's duel. Alexander Menke scored the only run up to that point, after great small ball execution by Tom Wraith and Blaine Johnson. The Stunner boys went with their "3 BIG GUYS NAMED DAVID" rotation, and David Wirth got it going with an absolute gem for the opening three innings, shutting out a very good hitting Wildcat team, striking out three over three innings, and not allowing a ball out of the infield. David Peterson and David Hurlbut came in for relief and allowed only one run in the game. Peterson had a magical weekend, allowing absolutely NOTHING every time he was on the bump! The offensive barrage continued for the Titans, as Alex Menke, Tom Wraith, and Hurlbut led the hit parade as the Titans scored 7 runs, which was more than enough for the third SYB Titan victory in two days. Craig Burton drove in a big run, and gunned down a wildcat runner at the plate with an awesome throw to Chucky Cavestany.

In game two, the Titans went on to win 9-3, behind a solid pitching performance from Victor Faria, Ryan Grant, and Brad Jones. The pitching was helped out with nice plays on defense, including a nice backdoor play with the bags juiced for the third out. Jones also led things at the plate in game two with a nice job of clutch hitting. Bombs were hit by Jones, Blaine Johnson, and Barquis.

The Titans will play in Elk Grove next weekend at the Sac County Baseball Memorial Day Tourney. Check back later this week for game times.

Go STUNNERZ YOUTH BASEBALL TITANS! OOOOOOH YEAH!
