Groundbreaking on New Fields
The Stroudsburg Little League broke ground on Thursday August 31 for a new four field Little league Baseball and Softball complex. The new site, “Creekview Park”, is the former Palmer Serfass estate, now owned by Stroud Township at the east end of Avenue “C”.   League Vice President Joe McDonald and President Jerry Robertson introduced and thanked the principal project partners including the ESSA Foundation, Hughes Foundation, Stroud Township Supervisors and General Contractor Papillon-Moyer Excavating to a crowd of 50 Little League Baseball and Softball supporters.
Other project donors to date include the Cherry Lane Foundation, Monroe County Commissioners, State Senator Lisa Boscola, Vicki Brockelman, President, Coldwell Banker Phyllis Rubin Real Estate, and Thomas Wilkins, President, Wilkins and Associates. McDonald and Robertson reminded those gathered that the League now serves 700 youth and sponsored 54 baseball and softball teams (excluding tournament teams) in 2006.
HRG Engineering of Bartonsville designed the project. The four fields include one 90’diamond for Junior and Senior (ages 13-16) baseball, two 60’diamonds, one each for Little League Major Division Baseball (ages 9-12) and Softball (ages 9-16), and one T’ball-minor league field for ages 5-8.
Phase one of the three phase project includes grading, drainage and seeding. The League hopes to commence play on two fields in the fall of 2007.   Stroud Township will co-develop the site with parking, utilities and a playground.   Additional fund-raising for phases two and three is underway.
Naming rights opportunities for two fields remain. Businesses, organizations and individuals interested in helping the League meet the growing demand for Little League Baseball and Softball may pledge support by contacting the League at P.O. Box 61 Stroudsburg, Pa. 18360., on the web at www.eteamz.com/stroudsburg, or calling League President Jerry Robertson at (570) 476-9727 or Vice President Joe McDonald at (570) 424-6877.
