St. Rose CYO: Coaches
Coaching Requirements-MANDATORY
If you'd like to coach in the next season please e-mail St. Rose CYO, then get started on the items below. This applies to head coaches and any assistant coaches. Any adult who wishes to sit on the team bench during games, or who may be left alone with players during CYO events must complete the items below. There is no maximum limit to the number of coaches a team may have, however, only two coaches are allowed to sit on the team bench during games. Every team should have at least one assistant coach. At least one coach should match the gender of the team.
1. Get fingerprinted with a background check (LiveScan). This is only required once for the Santa Rosa Diocese! Fingerprinting information has been added to the Coaches Handouts section. You need to download the LiveScan Information and take it with you when going for fingerprints. Please make a copy of the completed LiveScan form for Mary Beth. For updated LiveScan locations check out http://ag.ca.gov/fingerprints/publications/contact.htm#mobile%20services%20locations . If you've been fingerprinted with CYO (or another Santa Rosa Diocese program) before, check with Mary Beth because you probably don't need to do it again. Coaches who were fingerprinted before 2004 need to be LiveScanned.
2. Register with the Santa Rosa Diocese and Complete Safe Environment Training. All coaches must register once with Shield the Vulnerable, and take the online Safe Environment training. To register and/or take the online Safe Environment training go to Shield The Vulnerable https://www.shieldthevulnerable.org. Select Adult Sign-up, Catholic Diocese, Santa Rosa Diocese (CA), Diocesan Affiliation is CYO. located in Santa Rosa, St. Rose CYO. If you have already taken the training online before, you should be able to login to your existing account.
3. Bring picture ID to games. Gyms will have a list of cleared coaches. If your name is not on the list, you are not coaching. You may be asked to provide a picture ID for identification before coaching a game.

Uniforms
Uniform and Equipment Returns:
Coaches must collect uniforms from all players and turn them in together. Teams that are playing this weekend should instruct their players to bring a change of clothes so you can collect the uniforms. Coaches, it is your responsibility to hunt down your players if necessary to return uniforms. Please return equipment and uniforms at the same time.
Uniforms and practice jerseys must be washed and dry. Please place uniforms in a medium sized garbage bag labeled with the team grade and division and head coach’s name in permanent marker. Please include in the bag an inventory of uniforms (player name, jersey number, short size).
Items to be returned:
Uniform jerseys and shorts (inventoried, in a garbage bag labeled with grade, division, head coach’s name)
Ball bag containing:
- Basketballs
- First Aid Kit
- Practice jerseys (in a garbage bag labeled practice jerseys)
If you are interested in apparel for your team contact Jay Coester.
Uniform Care:
Players should not be wearing their uniform to practice, only to games.
We are constantly buying new uniforms. In order to manage the cost of registration year after year, please pass on the care instructions below for your Team’s uniforms.
This uniform is not your child’s to keep. It must be returned at the end of the season. Uniforms should be returned to the coach.
Machine gentle or hand wash in cold water. Line dry or low heat only. Do not put in Laundromat washers or dryers.
Do not cut out tags, draw strings, or make alterations. If it doesn’t fit, we can exchange it.
If the uniform is damaged and/or not returned after the conclusion of the season, the cost to you is up to $50 per uniform ($30 jersey + $20 shorts).
Rules
See the Rules under the Coaches Handouts section for the rule book. There are rule changes every season for CYO, and every year there are high school rule changes. Keep checking for updates.
Please remember direct technicals are cumulative. If you accumulate 2 at any time in the season you are suspended from the next week's practices and games. 3 technicals, and you're suspended for the remainder of the season. Remember, it's just a game! Applaud your players' efforts, and get over the game.
