HOME OF THE MAVERICKS 

Strong Island Ice Hockey Club is a unique program bringing together players from many different teams across Long Island. Our players have an opportunity to improve their play in an atmosphere promoting a true love of the game. They enjoy the competition of playing in tournaments while being encouraged to develop their skills.

          Our organization was established in 1988 to provide players with extra ice time. Our program is designed to help players improve overall skating and individual hockey skills while developing team play concepts.  The philosophy of Strong Island is to compliment as well as supplement players' participation in other hockey programs. We insist that each player fulfill his/her responsibilities to their high school, travel or recreation league team first.

       We practice weekly during the hockey season and participate in tournaments throughout the tri-state region. Our tournament teams are selected by the coaching staff based upon effort shown at practice, player's skill level and the player's ability to safely compete at the level of the teams we meet in exhibition games and tournaments.

            We have teams at both the Bantam and Midget level and are always interested in new players. Our registration is ongoing throughout the year. Our low cost and pay as you go policy are intended to assist families in providing quality ice hockey experiences at affordable prices. We are an inexpensive alternative for adding valuable ice time to a youth player's plan to improve his or her skills. We have secured ice for the 2009-2010 season!  We will be skating at the Bethpage Ice Center and the Rinx on altewrnate Saturdays throughout the season.  Check our Practice page for the latest schedule. 

We have been asked many times about putting together an alumni team and we are ready.  If you are interested in playing on a Strong Island Mavericks men's league team now is your time!  We are willing to form a team that will compete in a local men's league with an eye on tournament play in the future.  If you are interested, contact Coach Bruce at bkollmar@optonline.net.  We are looking for 15 skaters and 2 goalies for the upcoming seasons.
