 Breakdown of Teams:

Teams will play in the Union County CYO Youth Basketball League which is part of the Archdiocese of Newark CYO Program. There are seperate divisons for both Girls and Boys except in the Rookie Division where teams may be Co-Ed.  The basketball season is from October to March.

Rookie: Grade 2:  Teams will practice 1 day per week and play a 8 - 10 game travel schedule on weekends.  This is a developmental program with the empahsis on having fun while teaching the players the fundamentals of the game.

Pee Wee: Grades 3 & 4:  Teams will practice 1 day per week and play a 12 game travel schedule on weekends.  This is a developmental program with the empahsis on having fun while teaching the players the fundamentals of the game.

Junior Varsity: Grades 5 & 6:     Teams will practice 1-2 times during the week at night and play a 12 game competitive travel schedule on weekends. Playoffs and Tournament games will also be added to the schedule.

Varsity: Grades 7 & 8:   Teams will practice 1-2 times during the week at night and play a 12 game competitive travel schedule on weekends. Playoffs and Tournament games will also be added to the schedule.

High School: Grades 9 thru 12:   Teams will practice once a week at night and play a 10 game competitive travel schedule on weekends. Playoffs and Tournament games will also be added to the schedule. These teams will be made up of student-athletes who are not playing on their high School Freshman, JV or Varsity basketball team.

Please Note:

We anticipate each team to have a roster of 10-12 players each.

If we have enough Student-Athletes for two teams in one division, teams will be divided by grade. For example; we could have a separate team for the 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th, 7th or 8th grades.   The High School division could have teams from the 9th & 10th Grades and then then 11th and 12th Grades.

COACHES:

Many volunteers are needed to give of their time and talent to work and coach the many different teams we anticipate having. All Coaches must be 18 years or older.  It is not necessary to be a parent of a Student-Athlete.  Coaches need to attend the Archdiocese of Newark “Protecting God’s Children” workshop and be certified in the Rutgers Safety Course
