 On Tuesday, August 21, 2018, the Marist Varsity Men Cross Country Team traveled to the Hoover Forest Preserve in Kendall County in Yorkville, Illinois for the first meet of the 2018 Cross Country season. 

 The Invitational was hosted by Yorkville High School. Yorkville won the Mens State Cross Country Title in 2013 and 2014. Yorkville was oustanding hosts, and provided Marist with a special Team camp site at the Hoover Forest Preserve. 

 The Yorkville Invitational featured Oswego East (ranked #15 in Illinois), Lisle, Marist, Joliet West, and host Yorkville High School. 

 The meet featured a European style format, in which the Varsity Men, Sophomore Boys, and Junior Varsity Boys all competed in the SAME race.

 The RedHawks used the first meet to determine their Varsity, Sophomore, Freshman, and Junior Varsity Teams for the Lyons Invitational on September 1, 2018.

 Yorkvile won the meet with 25 points. Oswego East finished in second place with 55 points. Marist won the tie breaker on the strength of their sixth runner to finish in THIRD place with 81 points, and posted victories over: 4. Joliet West (81 points), and 5. Lisle. 

 For Team scoring, Marist athletes finished (1st - Thomas Leonard), (16th - Lucas Pennix), (19th - Caleb Davis), (21st - Kevin Bugos), and (24th - Colin Tracy) for a total of 81 points.

 For Team scoring, Joliet West athletes finished (5th - Julian Rosenback), (11th - Luke Pollack), (20th - Munson Sam), (22nd - Jake Pollack), (23rd - Christopher Velez) for a total of 81 points. 

 The tie for Third place was broken by the finishing place of each respective Team's sixth runner. 

 Marist Senior Andres Castillo finished sixth for the RedHawks and 25th overall to give Marist the Victory!

 Joliet West Sophomore Xander Gottner finished sixth for the Tigers and in 27th overall.  

 The Marist Varsity Men posted victories over Joliet West and Lise, and have a record of 2-2 to start the 2018 Cross Country season!

Thomas Leonard WINS Yorkville Invitational!

 Thomas Leonard had an outstanding Track season, in which he broke two Sophomore school records in the 3200m (9:41.10)  and the 1600m (4:26.77). He spent the summer training everyday, and working as a Lifeguard. He saved five people from drowning this summer.

 In his first race of the 2018 Cross Country Season, Marist Junior Thomas Leonard ran a PERSONAL BEST time of 15:36.30 to WIN the Yorkville Invitational! 

 Captain Thomas Leonard ran the first mile in 5:03, and then ran the second mile in 5:43, and then ran the final mile in a NEGATIVE split of 4:50.30 to WIN the Yorkville Invitational with an official time of 15:36.30.

 Thomas Leonard was awarded a MEDAL for winning the Yorkville Invitational!

 Mile Split Illinois Reporter Caron Vittorio said, "Thomas Leonard was the main attraction here as he dominated the field by 37 seconds and easily took home the individual title."

 Dye Stat reporter, and former member of the 1978 State Champions, Michael Newman said, "Thomas Leonard controlled and won the race (15:36) by 37 seconds ahead of Yorkville’s Alex Loos and Ben Tholen".

 Marist Senior Lucas Pennix finished second for the RedHawks and in 18th place overall (16th for Team scoring) with an outstanding time of 17:49.80.

 Lucas Pennix ran the first mile in 5:21, and then ran the second mile in 6:43, and then ran the final mile in a NEGATIVE split of 5:45.80 for an official time of 17:49.80.

 Lucas Pennix was awarded a MEDAL for finishing in 18th place overall!

The next Top 7 Sophomore and Freshman times from the Yorkville Invitational, make the Marist Sophomore Team for the Lyons Mike Khuaric Invitational on September 1, 2018.

 In 2018, Five Marist Freshman made the Sophomore Team! 

 Several of the incoming Freshman attended the Marist Running Camp in June 2018, and then attended Varsity practices during the 20 days contact period in June and July, and emailed their weekly mileage to the coaching staff.

 Marist Freshman received their first reward of the season for their hard work this summer by making the Sophomore Team, and running Marist Top 14 times!

 The IHSA allows Marist to carry 14 athletes on their roster for IHSA Regionals, Sectionals, and STATE.

 Brendan Geary ran the first mile in 5:44, and then ran the second mile in 7:20, and then ran the final mile in a NEGATIVE split of 6:08.30 for an outstanding time of 19:12.30.

 Brendan Geary had an amazing kick in the final 300m of the race. Brendan Geary outkicked Yorkville Sophomore Hunter Reyes (19:13.20) to the finish line.

 Brendan Geary also became a member of the 20 pull-ups club this summer, by doing 23 consecutive pull-ups.

 The Marist Junior Varsity will compete as a TEAM for the first time this season at the Lyons Township Mike Kuharic Invitational on Saturday, September 1, 2018. 

 The Junior Varsity squad features three athletes, that competed at the 2017 IHSA State Cross Country Championships, including Junior Luke Hortsman, Senior Aidan Dillon, and Senior Joe Donnelly. Marist Junior Josh Burns competed for the RedHawks at the 2017 IHSA Regional Championships. The Marist Junior Varsity squad will be among the Top Teams in the Invitational.

 The following athletes were entered in the Junior Varsity Division for the Mike Kuharic Invitational:
