Do You Have "IT"?
Some call it "heart", some say it
is "desire", others will say it is "guts",
but whatver "it" is you will need plenty
of "it".
There really isn't just one word to
describe "it" but it is a certain something
that comes from the heart that says, "I can,
I will, I'll get the job done." That
regardless of odds, regardless of what the
odds may be, I'll get the job done."
When you come driving toward the finish
line, you heart pounding, your lungs
bursting, your arms and legs dead, that is
the time to turn it on and say, "I can, I
will, I'll get the job done!" Many times it
is said as a man approaches the finish line
that he's "tying up". They might better say
that "his mind has lost control". Sure, it
is foolish to think that you can always be
first. There may be someone on your own team
that beats you. Regardless, you will have to
have the "I've got 'IT' attitude" before you
can personally do your best. This is what is
important, to win over yourself to do your
best and not let down. Don't be the kind of
athlete that always says, "I could have done
better but...." Remember excuses only
satisfy the person that makes them.
Force yourself to do your very best,
don't be satisfied with anything less. The
virtue of all achievement is victory over
oneself. Those who know this victory can
never know defeat!

Rachel Kittaka
On August 31, 2004, the Womens Cross Country Team ran in their first meet of the season. For Freshman Rachel Kittaka, it marked the first Cross Country race of her high school career. Most Freshman start their high school running careers against fellow Freshman. But Rachel would not be toeing the line in the Freshman-Sophmore Race, her first race would be against Juniors and Seniors, as a member of the Varsity.

Rachel showed incrediable mental toughness and determination in her very first Cross Country race, against the odds, passing numerous runners in the final mile, to place 15th overall as a Freshman, out of 91 Varsity runners, with a personal best time of 22:08, to help her team secure 3rd place overall!

The winner of the "IT" Award for the August 31, 2004 St.Patrick Invitational is Rachel Kittaka.
