Bill Pfeiffer Memorial

"Between the Pipes" Fund

The STHA is currently accepting applications for the 2016-2017 "Between the Pipes" Fund awards.  All applications must be received by September 5th, 2016 to be considered for the award.  Award recipients will be notified no later than one (1) week after the submission deadline.

The Between the Pipes Fund was established in 2007 to benefit members of the greater Binghamton area youth ice hockey community and to memorialize Bill Pfeiffer as a long-term supporter of youth hockey.

The STHA grows this fund with the STHA Ice Breaker Fundraiser and other events. The fund will provide the base fees associated with each age group, based on USA Hockey age classifications.  The fund will benefit the following levels, regardless of position played and the program of participation (house or travel): 6U/8U, 10U, 12U, 14U, 16U, and 18U.  If awarded, the fund will make the base fee payment directly to the STHA to offset the recipient's base fees.

Name Changes for Travel Teams

    NAME CHANGES FOR TRAVEL TEAMS

USA Hockey has recently made a change and now requires associations to call Tournament Bound Teams "National Tournament Bound", or "NTB". This causes some obvious problems with our teams we were calling "Non-Tournament Bound" (with the exception of 8U & 10U).

To that end, we are updating all National Tournament Bound teams to be NTB:
o 18U NTB
o 16U NTB
o 14U NTB
o 12U NTB

Our other travel teams will be referred to by the following:
o 18U Travel McGrady
o 14U Travel Basile
o 14U Travel Robitaille
o 12U Travel Macan
o 10U A Travel Roberto
o 10U B Travel Kelly

8U Travel Teams will continue to be referred to as 8U Red, 8U White, and 8U Blue.

The STHA is implementing the USA Hockey Red, White and Blue (RWB) model for the 8U (formerly Mini Mite and Dyno Mite) divisions for the 2016-2017 season.

The (RWB) model will result in more equally balanced divisions based on the level of development of the players and will allow coaches to implement practice plans specifically designed toward developing the skills needed for advancement.

Learn to Skate

    LEARN TO SKATE

The STHA is considering implementing a “Learn to Skate” program for the 2016-2017 season geared toward interested families of children who have not yet been on the ice.
This program, if implemented, would consist of the following:
o Beginning players (typically 3 years old and up)
o The only requirement is interest in hockey
o The learn to skate sessions will be shorter sessions and the focus will be to progress the players to skate under their own power. It is anticipated that many of the children in this group will advance into the Blue division as the season progresses.
o The program would consist of 10 sessions running from October to early December. The sessions would take place once a week and run about 45 minutes.
The STHA Board will assess the level of interest in the Learn to Skate Program and determine if there’s enough interest to warrant implementing the program for the 2016-2017 season.
If you have an interest in this program please let us know by emailing Piero Lisio at pierolisio@gmail.com
