The Southern Tier Hockey Association is a Youth Hockey Organization located in the Southern Tier of New York State.  We offer both House and Competitive Tier II Travel Programs ranging from Mini-Mites through Midgets, ages 4 to 18.

REGISTRATION FOR THE 2014-2015 SEASON IS NOW OPEN!

 

Player age groups and fees have been posted.  Financial assistance is available to qualified applicants via the Between the Pipes fund, which is open to ALL STHA players.

      

All general registration questions should be directed to the Registrar, Kirk Avery.

 

Registration is a 2-Phase Process.

2014-2015 18U Non-State Bound TRAVEL TEAM TRYOUTS


The STHA will be hosting player tryouts for the 2014-2015 for a 18U Non-State Bound  Travel Team Division at the Chenango Ice Rink.  The fee for tryout participation will be $20 (flat fee covers one or both division tryout dates).

All registered STHA players who are members in good standing as per the By-Laws of the STHA are invited to try out for this travel team.  A player will not be permitted to attend tryouts if they, or any other immediate family member, have any outstanding obligation to the STHA, including both unpaid fees of any kind and/or unreturned jerseys or equipment of any kind.

Any player from another association who wishes to try out must have a signed NYSAHA Financial Release Form from their former association, which shall be submitted to the President of the STHA not less than three (3) days prior to the first tryout session.

UNDER-AGE PLAYERS

USA Hockey and the STHA do not endorse the practice of under-age players playing at a level higher than their current age level.  Any play-up request shall be submitted in writing to the VP of Travel at least fourteen (14) days prior to the first scheduled tryout.  Play-up requests are required for any Midget 16U aged player desiring to try out for a Midget 18U team.  All play-up requests shall be reviewed by the STHA Board of Directors with a simple majority vote required for approval.  All play-up requests shall be notified of the outcome prior to the first tryout.

The travel team tryout schedule is as follows...
Sunday, August 17th at 11:15am to 12:15pm
Sunday, August 24th at 11:15am to 12:15pm
Each player shall attend at least one tryout session to be eligible for selection to this travel team. Any player who desires to try out for a STHA travel team, but is unable to attend any of the scheduled tryouts shall submit written notification to the VP of Travel not less than seven (7) days prior to the first tryout.

Bill Pfeiffer Memorial

"Between the Pipes" Fund

 

The STHA is currently accepting applications for the 2014/2015 "Between the Pipes" Fund awards.  All applications must be received by September 5th, 2014 to be considered for the award.  Award recipients will be notified no later than one (1) week after the submission deadline.

 

The Between the Pipes Fund was established in 2007 to benefit members of the greater Binghamton area youth ice hockey community and to memorialize Bill Pfeiffer as a long-term supporter of youth hockey.

 

The STHA grows this fund with the STHA Ice Breaker Fundraiser and other events. The fund will provide the base fees associated with each age group, based on USA Hockey age classifications.  The fund will benefit the following levels, regardless of position played and the program of participation (house or travel): Mini-mite, Dyno-mite, Squirt, Pee Wee, Bantam, and Midget.  If awarded, the fund will make the base fee payment directly to the STHA to offset the recipient's base fees.

All applicants must have their Letter of Intent and Coaches Application submitted to the House VP's for House and Select coaching positions by August 31, 2014.  For the lower divisions, Mite, Dyno, and Squirt, all Letters of Intent and Applications need to be emailed to Lori Meyers at lmeyers13@gmail.com. For the upper divisions, PeeWee, Bantam, 16U, and 18U, all Letters of Intent and Applications need to be emailed to Pat Basile`s attention at pbasile18@gmail.com.

The STHA is now accepting head coach applications for the 18U Non-State Bound team, for the 2014-2015 season. All interested coaches need to submit a written application to STHA Travel Director, Roy Wagner, on or before August 23, 2014. The application is on the website and can be accessed via this link.

USA HOCKEY COACHING CLINICS OPEN FOR REGISTRATION

USA Hockey has begun advertising coaching clinics for their Coaching Education Program (CEP).  You can only take one clinic per year.  All clinics are scheduled between 8:30am to 4:30pm. 

 

The following dates and locations are listed below:

 - 9/6 at Cicero, NY for Level 1, 2 and 3

9/6 and 9/7 at Cicero, NY for Level 4

           - 10/25 at Skaneateles, NY for Level 2 and 3

      - 11/15 at Clinton, NY for Level 1, 2 and 3

- 12/20 at Binghamton, NY for Level 1

2014-2015 Season

 
 House Player Evaluations will take place on
Sunday, September 7th, 2014 at Chenango Ice Rink (CIR)
for the following divisions:
 
11:15am-12:15pm – 16U Division
12:30pm-1:30pm – Dyno Division
1:45pm-2:45pm – Squirt Division
3:00pm-4:00pm – PeeWee Division
 
The evaluations are mandatory for all players in these divisions.
If a player does not attend their specified evaluation session, then
it will be determined what team they will be playing on per the
Vice-President of House Operations, either Lori Meyers for the
Lower Divisions and Patrick Basile for the Upper Divisions. If there are

In an effort to streamline the Drop-Off process and save time, the STHA is requesting that you fill out this form identifying your name, address, equipment to be sold and the price it is to be sold at.  There is also a place to identify that if your equipment does not sell, will the equipment be picked up or be donated to the STHA.

Pick-Up:     You can pick up your un-sold equipment and money from your

                   sales from 11:30am-12:00pm on Saturday.

VETERANS DAY TOURNAMENT

The STHA and Binghamton Jr. Senators will be hosting a Veterans Day Tournament from November 7th-9th for all Pee Wee A and Bantam A level travel teams.  If there is enough interest in a 16U A division, the tournament will include 16U A.  Tournament fee is $900.

Pre-Season Hockey Camp at the JMM Sports Complex

    Pre-Season Hockey Camp at the JMM Sports Complex

 

The 10th Annual Pre-Season Hockey Camp is being offered at the JM McDonald (JMM) Sports Complex in Cortland, NY for Mite, Squirt, Pee Wee and Bantam players. 

The instructor is Don Armstrong, Former Cortland-Homer Golden Eagles high school hockey coach with over 35 years of coaching experience!

The cost per player is $100, siblings are $85 and goalies are $60.

PLEASE NOTE!!

 

Any member wishing to purchase customized warm up suits, sweatshirts, shirts or other items that contain the Binghamton Senator Branding shall obtain approval from the STHA Equipment Director prior to placing any orders to ensure appropriate license requirements are met.  Binghamton Senators merchandise, including Binghamton Jr. Senators merchandise, is only available through authorized dealers.  The STHA Equipment Director shall seek approval of the Binghamton Senators if their branding is being requested.
