Wednesday, January 3 Exhibition Match A small but enthusiastic crowd gathered to watch the annual exhibition match at Stewarton Polo Club on January 2nd. The weather for once was dry, something of a miracle based on the weather so far this season. First to take to the arena were the novices who initially struggled with the conditions but once they got into the second chukka, the game became more free flowing. The Perth team always had the edge on Stewarton and ran out winners by 5 goals to 3. In the second match the Oldies took the field against the Youngies. By the second chukka this match really took fire with fast end to end polo. A clearly over excited Jamie Douglas was obviously delighted that the Oldies were stealing a march on the Youngies and was heard shouting over and over again "more goals, more goals." It definitely did the trick as it inspired his team to an easy win. Thom Bell was voted Most Valuable Player. Novice Perth - Cath Wilson, Sarah Middlemass, and Gillian Lockhart. Novice Stewarton - Gaynor Hutton, Peter Veeze, Brian Smith/Margaret Baird. The Oldies - Jamie Douglas (3) Peter Veeze (0) Thom Bell (1) The Youngies - James Douglas (3) Karina Bowlby (1) Mikey Goodwill (0) |
